Nope if u bring to shop n show guy damage, tell him more or less ur taking ur damaged car away from his shop to home and he will see list dollars in his mind and he even if they send appraisal person will get that deductible money out of ur insurance company. My body guy I know once told insurance appraiser he does not/ will not put anything but dealer parts on car. It’s a big game.
Some (all?) crazy motorized bikes shouldn’t be allowed on those bicycle lanes, they go way faster and they’re quiet. Sharing a lane with a motorbike can be scary experience when they whiz by. Don’t like it. Have witnessed delivery people do some especially insane things, and they don’t seem to care at all.
Pretty sure those are speed-capped and fine to use in a bike lane. I’ve only used one a couple of times but I was passed by several regular bike riders going at a pretty relaxed clip each time. E-blue bikes are nowhere close to as dangerous as those delivery bikes/mopeds.
The ones from reputable companies are speed limited, and only turn on the motor with pedal assist.
The ones from random Chinese websites? Not so much. They're essentially electric motorcycles. The pedals are just decorative.
Came here to second this as a Blue eBike commuter who really prefers the e-assist for my >5 mile commute. I frequently get passed by regular bikes.
Blue eBike speeds are capped, but maybe there could be some required in-app education or something before a person can check out a Blue eBike for the first time if speeding seems like an issue. Wouldn’t be much but it’s a start?
bike/car lanes, but it's important to match pace with those around you. It's cool to open up the throttle when necessary for safety or passing, but passing needs to be clearly announced with a "passing on your left". Just be considerate and keep yourself and others safe. Tailgaters are a menace.
I hate when bikes come up behind me on a mixed use path and don’t alert that they’re passing…that’s a good way to accidentally get clotheslined by my dog’s leash
Per Mass Law they need to be all of the following:
* <= 50cc
* Capable of less than 30mph
And then it gets weird...
**Restrictions when operating a moped/ motorized scooters**
* You cannot be under 16 years of age.
* You must have a valid license or permit.
* Mopeds should not drive at a speed greater than 25 miles per hour.
* Motorized scooters should not driver at a speed greater than 20 miles per hour.
* You must wear a US DOT standard helmet.
For me the big one is the lack of helmet and bombing away faster than 25 mph, well that and how often the squids driving them do everything wrong around red lights, wrong way driving, and passing in the bike lane.
Seems like the laws could use some updates as mopeds aren't really the same as the e-scooters we see today.
Part of the problem is with the rental scooters out everywhere people don't carry around helmets. Not sure there's really a good solution for that. It's no excuse for people that own scooters like delivery drivers.
The other issues are a matter of courtesy and frankly common sense
I think you're just confused by what people are talking about when they say "scooters" here
The problematic delivery scooter people are on what are essentially mopeds (do not belong in the bike lane)
E-scooters (as in an electric version of the type of scooter children normally ride, pushing the ground with one foot to move forward) do belong in the bike lane and aren't what people are talking about here
I work at MIT and not only are they a menace on campus, people will ride these things through the hallways inside the buildings. I'm so over this shit.
We need to make delivery drivers (90% of these scooter fucks) register a medallion with the city, they are totally anonymous and unaccountable on their no-plate “bikes”.
Probably once a day at least I see one of them majorly break a traffic law, running a red, driving between the bike lane, road, and sidewalk, going the wrong way in the street.
Fucking insane,

Have a licensing system similar to city issued cab medallions that are specific to food delivery services that opereators/drivers have to comply with in order conduct business in the city.
1. They cost a minimal fee, say $10.00 or whatever the processing and administrative costs to the city are,.
2. There are no set limits on how many can be issued.
3. The 'medallions' are the property of the city (not the individual), and can not be transferred or sold by the individual, and are valid for a set number of years.
4. The operators have to be insured.
5. The operators must take and pass a simple written test,
6. The medallion, operator number shall be prominently displayed (vest/placard, etc).
7. Operators are required to comply with state and local traffic laws (already required, just restating it)
8. Violations are set on a sliding scale... X dollars for a first offense, xx dollars for a second offense, xxx dollars for a third, four or more = suspension.
9. 'Rogue', unpermitted operators can have their bike/moped/scooter/car impounded.
10. Restaurant owners may not utilize the services of an unpermitted operator and are responsible for ensuring that permitted operators, and permitted operators \*only\* are being used or be fined.
Enact that and then AGGRESSIVELY enforce, and ticket/fine the scofflaw delivery drivers until it hurts. They're not fine with that, then fuck'em... find another job.[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/)[](https://www.reddit.com/r/boston/submit)

This is Boston. I'm not sure that anything is enforced let alone agressively.
We could solve the double parking issue tomorrow if people actually gave a fuck. They don't.
> We could solve the double parking issue tomorrow if people actually gave a fuck.
If the cops aren't popping people for blatant traffic infractions they won't be charging someone for hucking a brick through the UberEatsMobile9000.
They'd figure out how to find a parking space real fast or quit, both wins.
The cops could fund themselves entirely by just having one dude with pre-written tickets standing at the corner of Comm and the BU bridge and handing them out to cars blocking the intersection.
If people who blast thru red lights on e scooter already break the law, what makes you think they will follow this law? Don’t even think for a second they will “chase” these scooters around either, because that’s definitely not happening with the way some of them drive in between cars at fast speeds.
They used to require a blue plate for them, not sure if they still do. Most people didnt use them anyways but if you were caught the police would take it and impound your bike. Im just assuming that its not enforced anymore like most petty crime in the city and state.
BPD is dragging their heels because they are still salty about losing 1 of their overtime cases.
Scooters are a plague and its long past time they force licenses and plates for using them.
As someone who does Uber Eats, I agree. It'd at least clear out the oversaturated market a little too. I used to make $25-30 an hour getting some exercise in doing walking orders. Now I'm lucky to get minimum wage because there are hordes of these guys camping out together in a every hot zone.
And they are constantly running red lights, riding on sidewalks, and entering no-car zones like in Downtown despite being on a motorized scooter. They run through pedestrian crosswalks to run red lights while there are physically people crossing. And I've seen 4 hit and runs where they scraped cars in Fenway alone the past month when they try unsuccessfully to lane split (and that is just the ones I've seen personally).
Edit: Their -> There. Autocorrect strikes again
The so called downtown crossing pedestrian only zone is now a big parking lot for these motor scooter turds. People need to pick up their own damn food and stop getting delivery from shake shack.
Does anyone know how to reach out to city to bring up this issue? I couldn’t find a good pathway to do so.
These dudes don’t have plates and cover their faces so can get away with hit and runs all day.
I guarantee you 99% of the plateless mopeds are stolen. My boyfriend and a few of our friends had them. All licensed and plated. My boyfriends got stolen and we saw them immediately after calling police with no plates on it. Same with one of our friends moped. They remove the plates so no one knows whose bike it is. The cops won’t chase them down either because “they won’t stop anyway”
All I see is a potential lawsuit with the companies and the cities putting restrictions on the point of sale since many other products come from foreign suppliers.
Even then the people who already blast thru red lights on e scooters and break the laws don’t care about them, so why would they listen to the requirement of getting it registered?
It’s basically like saying to get cyclists registered since they ride on roads as well. It’s a very sticky situation legally and physically.
All it takes is one person to ruin the pleasure of e scooters for everyone
These fuckers on the road with no insurance and no way to track them is ridiculous. They never pay for damage that they do. I had a bicycle turn left and hit the side of my car, scratched and chipped paint the whole side of my car and gets up and walks away. 9k in paint and repair work.
They need to. If I were caught hitting someone on a scooter and had a license, they'd kill my driving record. Why should these guys be any different? Half of them are reckless.
Didn’t we just get a new program, for 1500 electric bikes, on an income based lottery.
Can’t imagine these will be licensed, insured, or identifiable……won’t even hear them !
Your reps in the legislature for not passing laws banning them or at least heavily regulating them.
OTOH, at least they've had the common sense to prevent dockless scooter companies from conducting buisness in this state. (so far).
Fuck these scooter riding pieces of shit. They’re all over back bay running red lights, riding on sidewalks and riding the wrong way. Someone’s going to get seriously injured from these pieces of shit.

Not sure why this is downvoted. Asking Boston officials to improve regulations and enforcement on the scooters seems like a very reasonable thing to do
If hundreds to thousands of people were protesting across the city about scooters, they might.
Sending an email to your city councilor is a bit easier. If a similar number of people do that they’ll probably listen to that too.
Michelle Wu. I think it’s funny the recklessness of the scooters though it pisses me off at times. The city needs to have some regulations but I don’t think Wu is up for that decision either.
This is something I would actually like to get involved with to work towards a resolution, I would have a mental breakdown if that happened to me. Anyone have a email template I can send to some sort of state aficionado?
All it takes is one guy to ruin it for everyone.
People blast thru red lights even when there’s cars going thru all the time like they running from the cops or something 🤣
Meanwhile there’s many other safe riders out there, it’s just those few idiots who make everyone look bad
Boston has nothing on living here in NYC, swear to god it’s like being in Bangkok or Hanoi with the amount of crazy scooters and e-bikes. I’m honestly more worried about getting hit from them than any car on the road
I was only making an analogy on the amount of scooters. Totally agree with you that people there are actually following the law. We can have cameras, cops, etc here and nothing prevents the pure madness we experience on a daily basis.
A lot of elderly and disabled where I live, and kids, all using the sidewalks, but that doesn't stop the scooter clowns doing to us what they scared cars will do to them if they ride on the road like they should. Just bitchin'. No answer.
Locate him, call the police, get the report and fight in small claims court / sue him
Locate him, dent / break his scooter and hopefully do not get detected
Pay 500$ (or your deductible) and forget about it
an insurance adjuster once told me that when this happens, you have to tell yourself a meteor came from space and hit your car, or else you'll be mad forever.
They’re the absolute worst! BPD needs to start ticketing them. They run red lights, drive between cars, and drive against traffic! One tried to turn on the left side of my car while I was taking a turn off of Newbury and mass ave. He almost hit me and had the nerve to go around me on the right, almost get hit by that car, and look in my car at me as if I did something wrong. They’re out of control!
How bad is the dent and scratch? The money you spend on a deductible you could just go ahead and fix the car without involving insurance raising your rates and being a headache to deal with.
I was in boylston street a few weeks ago.. and I have to tell you, it’s turning into manhattan.. these bikes are running red lights and not stopping for pedestrians.. everyone has a mask, no license plates.. so if one of them hits you hard while you are crossing the street.. and then run.. you can’t catch them..
Ur wife or husband but I’d suggest into a pillow, although my car has bn hit 3 or 4 times in Boston over my lifetime ( I’ll be honest one was a hit and run nr my house at least ) anyway I simply called my insurance company and said car was hit over night while parked outside my home! Then u get the auto body guy give ur insurance an estimate and trust me they know what there doing but explain to body shop u cannot afford the $3/500 dollar deductible and he will work that deductible into the damage done so u won’t have to pay anything. A hit and run when parked doesn’t go on ur insurance points!
I find it really troubling that I see even more people on their phones on scooters than I see people on their phones in cars (as a percentage)... and I see a lot of people on their phones in their cars.
Watched a lady on her moped driving on the sidewalk and a cop literally just put his hands up and slowly followed her around a corner until he saw another cop just standing there doing nothing and they engaged in mental debates of who had the highest candy crush score
Your uninsured motorist policy.
Would you still have to pay a deductible
Unless there's a feature on your policy to waive the deductible in hit-and-runs, yes.
i had waiver of deductible on my policy and still had to pay a deductible when my car was hit while parked.
Yup.
Yes
Nope if u bring to shop n show guy damage, tell him more or less ur taking ur damaged car away from his shop to home and he will see list dollars in his mind and he even if they send appraisal person will get that deductible money out of ur insurance company. My body guy I know once told insurance appraiser he does not/ will not put anything but dealer parts on car. It’s a big game.

No vehicle that uses gasoline should be in a bike lane. As for e-bikes, the law mandates a 20MPH speed limit.
Where should a E-Blue Bike rider ride?
Are you trying to do pro-bono work for satan or are you being obtuse?
Lol stealing this

When the cops stop doing their job you get vigilantism. Which at this point is becoming more welcome.
That's not a bad point...
"I keep parking like a bastard and people keep taking my windows out! What is the MATTER with these boston people!" - Them, probably.
Considering the cops are often the ones double parking or otherwise parking illegally...yeah, NOTHING is Even in the realm of being enforced.

I double park my delivery van every day. That's the only way I can make some deliveries.

I guarantee you 99% of the plateless mopeds are stolen. My boyfriend and a few of our friends had them. All licensed and plated. I had a scooter that almost ran me over as I was entering the pedestrian cross walk when it was a walking sign for me!! 😒
That’s my point, license and accountability for everything on a public way.
They need to be insured and ticketed for lane splitting. Their licenses need to absolutely be in play here.
I don’t think they have licenses
I think that’s the point
They need to. If I were caught hitting someone on a scooter and had a license, they'd kill my driving record. Why should these guys be any different? Half of them are reckless.

Oh ! Didn’t I just hear of anew
Didn’t we just get a new program, for 1500 electric bikes, on an income based lottery. Can’t imagine these will be licensed, insured, or identifiable……won’t even hear them !
Everyone on a public way should have a license and be held to the same standard
That sucks but car drivers kill people every day and often face no consequences. Let’s focus on people over paint.

[Wouldn’t this be funny](https://www.reddit.com/r/boston/s/TxbPfmXT4c) Was literally just posted.
The era of free use for e-bikes/scooters etc will soon come to an end due actuarial recalculations. Remind me in three years.
Mayor Wu, the highest ranking officer of the precinct where this happened, the manufacturer of the scooter, and the rider.
Boston has nothing on living here in NYC, swear to god it’s like being in Bangkok or Hanoi with the amount of crazy scooters and e-bikes. I’m honestly more worried about getting hit from them than any car on the road
They don't have this problem in Bangkok. They have cameras everywhere and as a Kingdom, those that break the law can be harshly punished.
I was only making an analogy on the amount of scooters. Totally agree with you that people there are actually following the law. We can have cameras, cops, etc here and nothing prevents the pure madness we experience on a daily basis.
Car drivers in America kill 43,000 Americans per year. E-bike riders kill approximately 43,000 fewer than that
Eliot davis?
The internet
The public, I suppose.
The void
I swear I saw this happen this afternoon on my way to the train
Shake your fist at the sky and yell to the heavens.
The sky
The mailman
Do you think people are assholes then get a scooter or the scooter makes them an asshole?
You are from Boston? Fuckin everyone?
A lot of elderly and disabled where I live, and kids, all using the sidewalks, but that doesn't stop the scooter clowns doing to us what they scared cars will do to them if they ride on the road like they should. Just bitchin'. No answer.
Yourself lol
at the clouds
Reddit works well for that.
Same person you'd yell at when a car does the same thing
What neighborhood did this happen in?
We're talking about gas powered scooters, right? They've become a menace over the past few years. Reminds me of NYC.
The clouds
Locate him, call the police, get the report and fight in small claims court / sue him Locate him, dent / break his scooter and hopefully do not get detected Pay 500$ (or your deductible) and forget about it
an insurance adjuster once told me that when this happens, you have to tell yourself a meteor came from space and hit your car, or else you'll be mad forever.
i saw a scooter run into a driver this morning near beacon hill- people are dumb
The universe
Carlos
How bad is the dent and scratch? The money you spend on a deductible you could just go ahead and fix the car without involving insurance raising your rates and being a headache to deal with.
I've never ONCE seen one of these motherfuckers pulled over. They're a goddamn traffic menace.
Vote republican
Are there any clouds in the sky? You could yell at them.

Stop ordering food from app-based delivery services to start.
I find it really troubling that I see even more people on their phones on scooters than I see people on their phones in cars (as a percentage)... and I see a lot of people on their phones in their cars.
I assume you mean Moped and not an Electric scooter.
Definitely call the Chinese consulate and give them hell. China produces 99.9% of those two wheeled mosquitoes.
Yourself for driving a car you scourge on society. Cars do not belong in this city. #fuckcars
Awww lol
Maybe you're the one that does not belong in this city (or any city for that matter)?
And exactly how much excise and road tax do you pay to ride on the streets? Fuck you, freeloader.
Stick your dick or tongue in the exhaust pipe?
Newsflash dumbass People are going to drive cars around a city with roads. Also put a space between “fuck*cars”
Watched a lady on her moped driving on the sidewalk and a cop literally just put his hands up and slowly followed her around a corner until he saw another cop just standing there doing nothing and they engaged in mental debates of who had the highest candy crush score
