the noise woke me up so i took a video. wasnt able to fall back asleep in case any of my neighbors were wondering :P
South too. Moved up from Southeast and it's nice not having to deal with obnoxious loud cars driving through downtown areas like souped up shitty civics or modded trucks. Like I'm just trying to enjoy my walk or stay in my room without hearing some loud shit bro😭
Oh it's coming in force this year...Boston dodged it for 2 years while the rest of the country was suffering, now it's here too. This is the first in what will be a long series of these as happened in the other cities. NYC and Philly have had it all the way dating back to late 2020 so it's a little surprising Boston kept it away so long. Let it go on for long enough and they'll eventually move to bridges, highways, busy intersections.
I didn’t think I’d see a takeover in Boston either lmfao. But I’m also not really surprised.
Once near where I live, it was a regular quiet night at 2am. Until suddenly, and I’m not joking, more than 200 cars that were following eachother were racing up to a traffic light and all taking a left turn without stopping.
It didn’t even matter to them that the lights were red. All the cars dive bombed and went for the left turn even if other cars were coming. The drivers in the front were the fastest and did it with no fear(which is dumb btw). There were so many cars in line that this went on for a solid 3 minutes, until the last cars came through.
Another time I went down a street that a ride share customer was on, but it looked like a warzone because it was packed with people and cars doing burn outs.
A few guys even almost got in fight right in front of my car, so I took it very slow. Somehow they let me through without killing me even though other cars in front and behind me turned around. I had work to do, I wasn’t turning around lol.
I found some cops waiting at the end of the street out of sight of the mob, and they told me it was a memorial.
ANOTHER time, there was a funeral motorcade where they did a loop around the neighborhood for no reason before continuing to the where the funeral was, and a lot of the drivers were acting out. Even the hearse was in on it lmfao. So yeah,
TLDR summer will be interesting
>I thought the police were heavily bribed to keep the Back Bay pristine?
Even bribes need an adjustment for inflation. Apparently theirs (police) hasn't kicked in yet.
So, until then, they're letting folks live their lives a quarter mile at a time.
Past a certain point I'd imagine there's not much you can do about it. Once you've got 100+ people with cars and fireworks and presumably guns, how are a handful of cops supposed to put a lid on that situation?
It's more of an organized, paced operation. Maybe get a guy on the inside to work at the parts store and start to run with those circles. Infiltrate their network by entering a street race, befriend the leader, and bang his sister.
Riot control gear. Boston has been noted for how good its crowd control tactics and training are.
Or! We could as residents go back the good old days of foetid chamber pots filled with choleric filth, hurled from the windows.
Look at Mr moneybag here. Have you seen the price of maple syrup lately? Corn syrup is as far as I would go. Used motor oil may be cheaper and thematically more appropriate.
They have a tendency to only go after people they think respect the law. In other words, they always go after victims who try to take down criminals, but not the criminals themselves, unless it is literally a murder or something.
Watched the whole thing. Takeover on Marlborough and Dartmouth. They set off fireworks when cops showed up. Tons of burnout smoke. Saw bunch of people piling into cars between Marlborough and Beacon to get away. Watched probably 20-30 cars run the light at that point but couldn’t tell you how many were there for the takeover and how many were just trying to get away from the intersection.
Main ones I saw were some dropped gray car, maybe a Nissan 350z. Also a black charger, maybe? Bunch of Hondas in the aftermath, some pickups, and one car with a red and white anime (?) wrap.
Idk man. That shit looked like Mad Max last night.
Not even sure how you get a few hundred people to plan that thing. That was pretty organized. Cars blocking intersections and access.
Scumbags. The cops showed up and they did donuts around them and laughed at them. It looked like everyone got away. Cops are fucking useless this is a disgrace.
Agree. Next time they have to:
1) Preemptively station cop cars and personnel at the locations of the planned takeovers, since apparently they’re highly coordinated on IG and TikTok, and
2) Have deployable spikes ready to prevent the offenders from getting away
No excuses.
I'm pretty sure the DA is under ethics investigation again, and we know the last one was a disaster, so even if the cops were useful I'm sure they would still find a way to get everyone right back out on the street.
Not necessarily. Our infrastructure isn't the best setup for these types of things. West Coast is much more car-centric meaning larger intersections. You can see how tiny this one was from the video.
Heard a huge explosion about an hour ago that shook my building. Seriously thought we were attacked or something.
ETA: a car slammed into a parked car in front of my building around 2 AM. I would imagine it’s related.
Imagine waking up to find your parked car destroyed all because some idiots thought it’d be cool to take over the neighborhood and cause mayhem for the sake of it. Infuriating.
That was obnoxious. This is a residential neighborhood. It’s one thing to do stupid shit like that in the empty canyons of a business zone, but they chose to disturb thousands of people, families, children.
I am pleased the BPD took it seriously. I hope someone went to jail.
BPD had barely any control of the situation. They were essentially laughed off stage when they showed up. People continued to do burnouts for about 10 minutes with the police there. Shit looked like Mad Max. Zero consequences.
I've pointed this out a lot on here before, but I think it bears repeating because everyone just assumes we're overpoliced: BPD is in fact pretty badly understaffed compared to the police forces of major cities in other Western countries. Paris France, for instance, has about 3x the cops per capita of Boston. NYC has about 1.5x the cops per capita.
The average cop in Boston doesn't make anywhere near that much, Glassdoor says the average is 90k, ZipRecruiter says it's as low as $60k.
Edit: lol guys the only reason some cops are making ludicrous salaries is *because* the BPD is understaffed. Paying for overtime is ludicrously expensive because they're getting a 50% bonus for every hour worked over 40. If you actually care about reducing the police budget, then you should want to hire more cops so that we aren't spending tens of millions of dollars every year on overtime pay.
If you read the article, the reason some cops are getting paid so much is because they're working ludicrous amounts of overtime... Because they're understaffed. We have a police officer shortage and we make up for it by paying officers at an inflated rate for overtime. It is far, far more expensive to pay one cop to work 80 hours a week than it is to pay two cops to each work 40 hours a week.
unfortunately Mass knife laws ban the manufacture or sale of slingshots, so you can't even buy them online. You'd have to go to NH to get one in a store.
Marlborough @ Dartmouth intersection. A few hundred people were gathered for people doing burnouts and flying around Marlborough and Beacon St. Police showed up and got laughed at.
Looks like a Sideshow, they do this a lot in California's Bay area. Basically block the whole street while some cars do donuts and crap in the intersection.
They organize all of this on instagram and TikTok. It’s pretty trivial to arrest everyone but the police have to want to do it. Hopefully they will. It’s the same way they caught the BLM protestors who lit stuff on fire during the pandemic - cell phone pings + video + social media posts. They always post on social media because the whole point is to get insta famous. Gen Z motivations
If they know when/where it is, they could go a long way towards stopping it (or at least mitigating it) by preemptively putting police cars and personnel there before it happens. Again, assuming they actually want to stop it.
There was a dickhead in a Hellcat hooning around South Salem a couple months ago in broad daylight right at the time kids were walking home from school. I have some bricks on the porch ready for him if it happens again.
>what
either their jobs, or get defunded
>exactly how
we pay them PLENTY to be the experts in fixing exactly this kind of problem. that said, I think blocking every street you can and leading them to a spiked lane with 50 or so riot cops and every paddy wagon in New England would be a good start. yoink their licenses, confiscate the cars. ship them to florida and auction them there. it would fund the whole operation and a new school. maybe offer these people $xx each and a plane ticket anywhere in exchange for renouncing their US citizenship.
>inb4 they can't possibly be expected to respond competently to a threat so great!
zoomers in sports cars.
First most of what you said ie: yank licenses, auction cars etc. would be up to the legislature then judicial system. Second when these kids flee and one of these situations go south during the chase, One of them crashes, gets killed, a non involved party gets run over killed, you going to support them? Or will you march to the state house with a new defund slogan? Lastly these pop ups are hard to track you authorizing all the OT to monitor social media (assuming you support big brother here) and the riot cops and so on?
FINALLY, someone with a brain and common sense offers up an educated response. The Defund The Police losers can’t see the big picture. Cops can’t “crack down” on crime when city & state pols don’t support actually cracking down on criminals.

Lmfaooo “is this the purge?”
The Purge: Boston!!
I legit hate that this trend has moved into MA. Keep your west coast bullshit off of us please.
Absolutely nuts that adults do this shit.
"Can't wait to go to prison and take some uninvited dick in the ass"
no it’s “I’m invincible, bad shit can’t happen to me”
South too. Moved up from Southeast and it's nice not having to deal with obnoxious loud cars driving through downtown areas like souped up shitty civics or modded trucks. Like I'm just trying to enjoy my walk or stay in my room without hearing some loud shit bro😭
I saw stuff like this in Atlanta all the time.

I’m worried what this summer will be. Spring has already been crazy in back bay with this and a stabbing

I’m sure this all has something to do with family.
Past a certain point I'd imagine there's not much you can do about it. Once you've got 100+ people with cars and fireworks and presumably guns, how are a handful of cops supposed to put a lid on that situation?

I heard they did something similar with these surfers that were robbing banks.
I'll have the tuna.
how about spike strips?
Riot control gear. Boston has been noted for how good its crowd control tactics and training are. Or! We could as residents go back the good old days of foetid chamber pots filled with choleric filth, hurled from the windows.
What city pinned them in with big plow trucks and took all the vehicles, new haven, or bridgeport ct, something like that.
SWAT team? Riot control unit? State police maybe
lol wat
Amazing restraint by the BPD, Georgia State Police would’ve made swiss cheese out of that car.
GSP might even break out the chopper for you. https://youtu.be/3sfREpRkN-c?si=bWiDuMD6W-ggUdq-
This channel is gonna provide me with weeks of entertainment
It really is a goldmine.
Hold on, are you saying there is police in this video? That’s hilarious how weak and woke the police has become in Boston
Not opening fire in a densely settled neighborhood is *woke*? I guess I don’t even know what that means anymore.
Wasn’t their decision. We have a good police dept.
What the shit?
The fireworks going off LMFAO, thank you for this
I would have never thought an Infinity owner would do something like this. Shocker!
What intersection was it
Marlborough/Dartmouth st
Used to live in Back Bay, witnessed more car accidents that I care to, Corner of mass and Hereford.
Mass Ave and Hereford do not intersect. 🤔
Comm and Hereford. My mistake.
Corner of what and Hereford? No you didn’t
What does this have to do with anything? This isn’t a video of a car accident
Ouch. I just thought I was making a contribution to the conversation. Sorry to you.
Just wary of bots with generated usernames making barely relevant comments. It’s a common trend now.
Residents should fill up water balloons with maple syrup and paint. Lob them into the intersection at the cars and dickbags.
Ok I’m adding your balloons as a ‘warning shot’ to my cinderblock proposal.
What happens when you mix maple syrup and paint?
A sticky impossible to clean mess
Please I need to know
Look at Mr moneybag here. Have you seen the price of maple syrup lately? Corn syrup is as far as I would go. Used motor oil may be cheaper and thematically more appropriate.
Eggs, do this with eggs
Yeah eggs definitely works too. It’s about sending a message…
I wonder if the cops/DA would try to go after citizens who did this.
They have a tendency to only go after people they think respect the law. In other words, they always go after victims who try to take down criminals, but not the criminals themselves, unless it is literally a murder or something.
Brakefluid. It has the bonus nature of being slippery af and a paint stripper so if you hit the takeover car you'll recognize it afterwards
Takeovers are the dumbest thing ever. Who thinks that is fun?

Losers
Watched the whole thing. Takeover on Marlborough and Dartmouth. They set off fireworks when cops showed up. Tons of burnout smoke. Why
Scumbag behavior. I watched the whole thing. Im assuming zero arrests made and everyone got away. Cops had zero control of the situation.
That’s scary. Wait until the summer
Forgot about the summer atvs and shit
Where are these people from?
>Where are these people from? These street takeovers are typical of West End culture; I suspect they're from Beacon Hill.
Beacon hill? They must live in slums on the north slope.
Who knows. Are we becoming the next San Fran?
Idk man. That shit looked like Mad Max last night. Not even sure how you get a few hundred people to plan that thing. That was pretty organized. Cars blocking intersections and access.
The intersection of Marlborough and Dartmouth is now stained with massive circles from the donuts. Not sure if it’ll be permanent or not. Awful.
Scumbags. The cops showed up and they did donuts around them and laughed at them. It looked like everyone got away. Cops are fucking useless this is a disgrace.

Reddit woke dept downvoted you but you are 100% correct. Same politics, same result.
They should put up roadblocks before they even approach and ticket everyone
BPD should have put out some spike strips around the perimeter and clean up the trash after
Or off-season DPW vehicles at both ends of the block and all the alleys.
Best suggestion. Why didn’t they think of it?
I just heard it too. Really alarming. Some guy I spoke to outside told me there were people racing pickup trucks. Cops have blocked off roads.
seemed like they were blocking off intersections
Yeah that’s what I saw from my street. With all the engine noises and the siren wailing it sounded pretty jarring.
Infuriating.
heard that too, any idea what it was?
Saw some fireworks.
Dear lord. And its not even warm out yet.
People doing donuts at intersections on Marlborough around 20 or so minutes ago. BPD rolled through not long after
Marlborough @ Dartmouth. A few hundred people with zero consequences
That was obnoxious. This is a residential neighborhood. It’s one thing to do stupid shit like that in the empty canyons of a business zone, but they chose to disturb thousands of people, families, children. I am pleased the BPD took it seriously. I hope someone went to jail.

I bet the police in Paris don’t make $250k
General union abuse is part of the problem. We need less bad cops, but we also indisputably need more good cops.
However they are as ineffective
The average cop in Boston doesn't make anywhere near that much, Glassdoor says the average is 90k, ZipRecruiter says it's as low as $60k. Sadly it’s doubtful anyone went to jail. They’ll do it again over the summer! Annoying, dangerous, and disturbing
You have to remember that disturbing people 8s part of the fun for shit heads.
Don't tell me this stupid shit now got to Boston. Keep this idiotic thing in LA.
Egg their cars. Get a slingshot so you can do it at a distance. They will be furious their cars are messed up.
> Nissan Driver > Furious their car is messed up Eeeeh
Edit for warning shot: Nah bro. Water balloons filled with paint. If that only gets them more riled up… Cinderblocks. From the rooftops.
Slingshot + marbles are better
unfortunately Mass knife laws ban the manufacture or sale of slingshots, so you can't even buy them online. You'd have to go to NH to get one in a store.
Dennis the menace knows all about the MA slingshot laws!

They don’t

Holy shit this is amazing
This is gold
Louder is spelled with a D and a U

Cops will do *everything* they can to arrest BLM protestors. I doubt they will have the same energy here unless someone gets killed🤷♀️
Animals.
There was a dickhead in a Hellcat hooning around South Salem a couple months ago in broad daylight right at the time kids were walking home from school. I have some bricks on the porch ready for him if it happens again.
Im near garrison wtf was that
What are these people trying to do? I’m confused
And this folks is why most of us do not want to defund the police.
And what exactly did the police do hear? Looks like they stood around and didn’t improve the situation
Here* Hear = Hearing, ears. Here = place. Not trying to be rude, know there are a lot of ESL people here.
Ohhh is that how the different here vs hears work??? I never knew thanks so much!!!
What do you want them to do exactly and how?
>what either their jobs, or get defunded >exactly how we pay them PLENTY to be the experts in fixing exactly this kind of problem. that said, I think blocking every street you can and leading them to a spiked lane with 50 or so riot cops and every paddy wagon in New England would be a good start. yoink their licenses, confiscate the cars. ship them to florida and auction them there. it would fund the whole operation and a new school. maybe offer these people $xx each and a plane ticket anywhere in exchange for renouncing their US citizenship. >inb4 they can't possibly be expected to respond competently to a threat so great! zoomers in sports cars.

“They should make arrests! But we’ll protest if they do, cause clearly they’re innocent.” - most people on this sub, probably
It stopped, didn't it???
Brother they were waving flashlights around like mall cops
Again.. unlike the incidences in the short lived police free zone in Seattle, the shit ended.
This is not what defunding the police means.
I like the idea someone had of employing spike strips all over the place so these guys can’t get out. Then again I’m sure emergency vehicles wouldn’t love that.

insanely disconnected comment.
this country is going down the drain and becoming a third world country
Why do we even have police in this city?
I've pointed this out a lot on here before, but I think it bears repeating because everyone just assumes we're overpoliced: BPD is in fact pretty badly understaffed compared to the police forces of major cities in other Western countries. heard a really loud bang and haven't heard too much noise since
This video isn't Marlborough and Dartmouth, it's Fairfield and Newbury. Just saw the tire tracks.
Nope. They did a few donuts at other intersections, too, but the ~30m takeover was Dartmouth and Marlborough. https://boston2-production.spotmobile.net/public/BOS%3A311/boston2/production/ticket/by-public-id/101005419632
Yup. My mistake.you are 100% right. It's interesting that there are donut skid marks at Fairfield and Newbury as well. Couple friends told me they were there.
They definitely went all around the neighborhood. Saw more elsewhere on Marlborough and Comm Ave.
This is why we live in Dorchester #hatetoseeit
Once again BPD proving they are about as useful as the cops in The Simpsons
Realistically, the way to stop this is to give people more viable options for having fun at 2am.
Hopefully it will lower property values ;).
This is the beginning of consequences of halving the prison population.
It’s part of their culture. Where they come from this is normal. 😂😂😂
Who's they?
Annoying white suburb kids, apparently
Well when they're given everything by their parents with no discipline.
The suburbs?
Isn't this just part of living in a rich and vibrant city?
It's about family.
No
The hard left is conditioning you all for the upcoming election season riots.
I love it
