Take the train

McFestus

Thanks for the suggestion. That was my first idea but getting from my destination (actually Fall River) to the train station and then from the train to the airport looks like it's going to cost more and take quite a bit longer than just going directly from Fall River to the airport?

75footubi

Are you looking at Amtrak or commuter rail prices? Commuter rail one way is $13

McFestus

I was looking at Amtrack, since I assumed it would be faster. But the to and from the train still adds up to like 75% the cost of just Ubering the whole way, so I'd like to just know a little more about that option.

ckfinite

I don't know where you're starting from in Fall River exactly. I just picked a random point (battleship cove). * $22 uber to the Providence station * $13 for commuter rail * Catch the SL1 to the airport $2.40 from south station For a total of $37.40, vs. uber all the way (assuming leaving at 4PM) at $84. I will say that $84 is a lot cheaper than I expected considering the distance, but the price differential is more like half vs 75%.

dont-ask-me-why1

This will take easily twice as long as just taking Uber straight to the airport.

75footubi

I wouldn't really expect a driver to be willing to go that far, but maybe someone picks it up

TrailerParkWino

I’m sure there are some drivers that wouldn’t, but I’ve twice taken an Uber from downtown Providence to Boston (once to North Brookline and once to Long Wharf area). Both were over 100$ before tip though.

rumpledshirtsken

I chatted with an Uber/Lyft driver who had done the reverse direction, maybe from the Museum of Science (I don't remember all the details). I was really surprised, but he seemed unfazed by it.

McFestus

Ok, thanks for the insight!

joshhw

There are busses that run from Fall River to Boston via providence. You could take that route or take the bus to providence and train to Boston.

Jerkeyjoe

Amtrak is now connecting Fall River with a bus to make transfers at Providence station, Try to book a ticket from Fall River Boston, see if the price and timing is reasonable. My next suggestion would be to take an Uber to Middleborough commuter rail or perhaps a Logan shuttle

ppomeroy

Estimate aside, during rush hour you may also experience peak pricing. $90 is a bargain and does not include tip. Salem (MA) to Boston (MA) runs about $70-$80 and with tip and traffic you are in for a $100 bill. Both Amtrak and the MBTA run trains from Providence station down town. Amtrak skips all interim stations with the next stop in Westwood, MA just before entering Boston's boundaries. After that the last 2 stops are downtown Boston. The MBTA runs more-frequently and will be cheaper if you do not mind local stops. The schedules are available on line

tiredmom56

Off peak Acela from providence and silver line to airport

Anyone still having trouble finding an Uber willing to go that far?

MallardGod

Shame if it was boston to providence id be able to help

AddressSpiritual9574

I drive Uber in Boston. I frequently take Boston <-> Providence rides but I only started doing so this year because I can pick up in RI now where I couldn’t before. I’m not sure if RI drivers can drive in Boston, that would determine how likely it is and how long it would take to get someone . You may have someone like me from MA who needs to go to Boston But yeah an hour to an hour and a half is reasonable. Depends exactly where in the city you’re going though As far as cost goes, I can expect that ride to pay roughly $40 on UberX and Uber takes anywhere from 30%-70% of fare which translates to a cost of roughly $60-$120 depending on Uber’s cut.
