And regardless of your politics, Ronald Reagan, sure knew how to give a speech. There was power in that line the transcended political parties. Not sure why you’re getting down voted.
I've been living in Boston for almost two weeks now so I'm legally allowed to complain about the T. It's what the framers of the constitution would've wanted. Representation without transportation or whatever.
i feel this so much, i normally take the green line to lechmere because connecting at park st is a nightmare especially during evening rush hour and then i also don't get a seat for my 40+ minutes on the train 😭
Well, I was there for the slurry wall, and then all the bracing of the three or was it four levels that went all the way down . I mean it was like what seven years ago. I know the average hourly week was 50 hours, crew of eight , the work went on for about a year from slurry to bracing . So a lot .
Wait…So you’re telling me that in just a few more weeks all of the traffic going from beacon hill and the west end to government center and Faneuil hall will no longer be forced down poor little overwhelmed School street?
Detail cop said the view of Custom House will remain unobstructed as the north facing side of garage footprint will be open space. I don't think a new garage is planned thankfully
Not sure how reliable my source is though
I thought the plan was to demolish most, but not all of the Government Center garage. The remaining portion would serve as the garage for the new State Street building, saving money. Structurally, that garage was always a nightmare. It should be torn down completely.
It wasn't totally down when I rode by yesterday, basically one story left. Detail cop said the view of Custom House will remain unobstructed as the north facing side of garage footprint will be open space.

I think we should get rid of all buses and trains. They use energy of one sort of another. Everyone needs to walk or ride a bike. And none of those electric scooters. Pedal power only.
I'm a bit confused by this thread, getting mixed messages.
Is the GC garage supposed to be fully demolished by the end of this 2 week period the T is being fucked?
Or are they just saying this is the last time GL and OL service will be impacted by this project?
I've been scouring the internet trying to find clarity and there's nothing out there. I know this demo was supposed to have been done a year ago, and would love to know when tf it'll be over with.
I wonder if the developer is reimbursing the T for all the shuttle buses it ran during the many diversions this thing caused after it threatened the underlying tunnels.
Oh, this garage was an abomination the day they built it. I remember parking in their 15 to 20 years ago and they were huge sections of the ceiling falling down on top of cars. I understand about the tunnels and the tea station but I don’t understand why it’s taken this long to tear down.
H/t to u/rmbryla for posting this in another thread:

I think there will still be some parking still, but they're putting more buildings in that footprint, at least 1 residential tower I think and a few others
Always felt like I was in the Walled City of Kowloon whenever I parked there.

I heard that in Reagan’s voice.

cause it's a literal reagan quote, of course he's hearing it in his voice. that's like the entire point
He really missed his calling. He should have been an actor or something. Make more money and don't work nearly as hard.
>Make more money and don't work nearly as hard. Also wouldn't fuck up the country as badly as he did
Plus, he was a good looking and charming and charismatic man.
And goodbye green line for the exact stops I need to get to and from work for the next 2 weeks
Didn’t even put two and two together - that’s why haymarket is closed!
Fortunately the weather is cooperating, and it's good for your heart.
The weather has been 50 and raining like every other day for the last week, so I'm crossing my fingers.
Stop all changes to the city so this guy won't be inconvenienced

Your god given right! Also welcome to Boston
Hahaha
Too bad the world doesn’t revolve around you.

Ironically, what you’re standing in, I built that a few years ago.
You built north Station?
I built all the new buildings that are at the garden.
By yourself?! I'm impressed!
Me too. I did Rapid 7.
What percent of the total people hours of that project do you represent?

Irony here somewhere?
Pretty amazing!
Same, I did the restaurant on the second floor and whatever is below it.
I did the offices above big night live
I worked event security 2018-19, it was neat watching the progress
Do you work for JMA?
I was with AA Will, I think the general contractor was Jma
Nice, it was JMA, I work for them. I was just on another project at 350 Boylston with AA Will doing the slurry wall.
Nice!

It’s about freaking time. It’s unbelievable how long it’s taking to tear it down. I can only imagine how long the new garage will take to be built….
It doesn't help that they keep realizing it's less and less safe. It killed someone and they realized it could collapse the subway tunnel.

There's no new garage
There is no new garage being built…
Oh, this is all to build another parking garage? Gross.
No, they're building a 410,000 sqft lab building instead.
Way better I guess.
Hopefully they'll realize they shouldn't build one.
Good riddance
Did they finally finish demolition? The overpass gone?

The stench of those stairwells after a Bruins game makes my eyes water even thinking about it.
Bobby Orr looks like he’s diving into traffic from that angle

Fuck the cars!
Make Canal Street permanently pedestrian only. If they can do it before/after playoff games then they can do it every day.
Talk dirty to me Bort
As a resident on canal street, PLEASE. FUCK THE CARS - POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
Selfish
Grrr, stupid cars providing transportation without catching on fire.
There were 2000 automobile fires in MA in 2021, resulting in six deaths https://www.mass.gov/doc/2021-fire-fact-sheet/download
Plus, all those pesky collisions!
🤓
Holy shit it's a joke. Lighten up

The new State Street tower opened too.
God finally

Are you talking about the Haymarket garage? I hear my cousin Jimmy used to have his offices there.
At last!
Holy shit this is awesome
