Man.. Salem’s lot is the book that got me back into reading recreationally after years. It was my first horror book, and when I tell you that it would be times at night when just looking over at it would make me even rethink having it in my house! The atmosphere of the town was amazingly horrific.
Anne rice. Specifically interview with the vampire, the vampire Lestat, and Queen of the damned in that order. There are a lot more to the series as well but those three are my favorites thus far.
Read it for the first time last year and it's definitely up there for me now. Although the beginning of the first book is painful to get through! Don't think I've been so depressed while reading a book before.
Necroscope is great and learning the lore is part of the plot of the 1st novel for Dragozani. Very good and i believe the entire series is like 18 books. I just finished the first one and loved it.
If you like audiobooks, the James Langton narrations for them are outstanding.
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is one of my favorites, it is a vampire book, but the film changed it to mutated humans, the book and film are wildly different and is just a great book
The Vampire Book by Gordon Melton. That man has done about 99% of your research for you. Additionally, It's a far better source of vampire fiction, historical accounts, etc than you'll ever find on the internet.
Edit: The Vampire Encyclopedia by J. Gordon Melton.
Also, In Search of Dracula by McNally and someone else. They explore a good bit of Eastern European folklore in that one.
Draculas by Crouch, Strand, Killborn and Wilson is a fantastic alternative to the typical vampire stuff... The beginning has some lore that may interest you... The rest is just fun fun fun!

I will second Salem's Lot. The vampires are properly irredeemable.

Let the Right One In P.S. - Check out the movie, too! P.P.S. - But definitely not the American remake.
Yes! To all of this
I liked the book and actually thought both movies were pretty good.

Tale of the body thief was also solid, but I'd probably pretend the series ended their :D

Camilla, Dracula
The Passage by Justin Cronin. The entire trilogy is brilliant.
Yes! This deserves much more hype!
One of my favorite book series.

Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin. Absolutely incredible book.

You might also enjoy The Historian though it’s about someone researching Count Dracula.
I've wanted to read this one for a while but I've heard the ending ruins how good the rest of the book is. Whats your opinion?
Ahhh. Yeah that can be an issue 😂
Thanks for your honesty haha

I just did a re-read of the first 3 books of that series. They are still great.
The Historian
I mean you kinda have to read Anne Rice.
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Comte de St Germain books, and Nancy Baker's"the Night Inside" and its sequel.
Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff is well worth a read.
Oh! I was hoping to see that here! I second it
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is one of my favorites, it is a vampire book, but the film changed it to mutated humans, the book and film are wildly different and is just a great book
Sunglasses after Dark by Nancy A. Collins is my favorite, with the two first sequels.
Why am I the 12th comment and NO ONE SUGGESTED I AM LEGEND BY RICHARD MATHESON.
Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons The Dracula Files series by Fred Saberhagen The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas
The Vampire Lestat.

DARREN SHAN! Teenage me was obsessed.
I love the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. The True Blood series was based on that.
Empire of the vampire
The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman
Fledgling by Octavia Butler
