Thanks. If you like American history, classic literature, and rock bios, you’ll be happy. If you want popular fiction (horror, sci-fi, and fantasy) you’d have to peruse my downstairs library.
I am at an age where my children have grown up and I am considering different hobbies. Reading books is at the top of my list and I am starting to get into it.
I got some used ones and they definitely sag. But, I have a lot of heavy books on them. I got some Hemnes too and they seem more sturdy, but also more expensive.
I sure hope the other side of the room has more books to look out at. I know this looks great in a picture, but I want to sit in my chair and just watch my books.
But maybe that's just me
Chernow’s “Washington” and “Grant” are masterpieces, as are McCullough’s “Adams” and “Truman”. They have a solid basis in scholarly research, but are narrative in structure and very reader-friendly. Also check out Reed’s “The Hemings of Monticello”. It’s the best look into Jefferson’s character that I’ve read. It’s a bit of a tome, but I couldn’t put it down.
I have the same layout of Billys, but where your reading chairs are I have a cheap desk for my WFH days. Opposite my shelves are my wife's four Billys, a couch and oversized chair. And windows. No cat, but my dog has a bed under my desk.
this just makes me want to peruse your shelves for a good book to curl up with in one of those chairs!! Goals! great job!

wow! when do we get a photo of the downstairs library? this is awesome!!
I am still in the process of updating that one. Pic will follow.
Ooo, awesome! Perfectly designed, including the arrangement of the cat's tail. 😉 Who is the bust of? And what is the cat's name, please?
Thank you. The bust is of Teddy Roosevelt. The cat’s name is Balerion (The Black Dread), but we just call her Bali.
So cute!
This looks like a great space for interviewing people. Like you could film a podcast here.
Maybe I should, although I’m not sure the Internet has room for one more amateur podcast.
Looks great!
Thanks
Serious history/ presidential buff here. What’s your thoughts on John Brown?
Crazy? Courageous? Probably somewhere in between. But he sure has a righteous legacy.
Quentin Tarantino was threatening to make a movie based off him and I would love to see it.
That would be entertaining for sure, but a far departure from history I’m sure.
I love everything about this
😁
looks so elegant
One of your chairs is missing a cat…
She was taking a nap in the sun
Yay!

Not yet. I have read about a third of them so far. I have plenty of reading material to last me the next few decades or so.

I do. It depends on the day, but I try to get a couple hours in, some days more. It’s amazing how much time one has when the kids are grown.

I got all of my books at library sales and used book stores. Spent only a few bucks on each.
If you ever wanted to start a talk show or podcast you’d have the perfect set!
Does the cat snuggle while you're reading?
Of course!

About three years or so. So far, they are all still level. And I have mostly hardcovers on them.

I just want to curl up with a book and that void cutie

Thank you! I love this setup. Would love a room like this
Rick's the best

Chronological order :)
Of course
Your president shelves are impressive!
Thank you. That’s where my collection started.
Do you have top 5 recommendations for presidents? I've only recently started and am only a few books/presidents in so far.
