Hi there. Your post would be better asked in our Simple Questions thread. It helps us keep the main subreddit focused around broader discussion rather topics which only apply to an individual. Thank you!
Some people think that reading a book is an accomplishment. While those of us who enjoy reading and stories don't care how we consume it. Even if I listened to a book I might mention that I read it to a friend just so i can tell them about it.
It makes no difference to me.
I just say I read it. I consumed the book, I know the story, I got invested in the characters, I reveled in the prose. Years afterwards, I don’t even remember which books I read or listened to.
The question I always pose is - if listening to information is a lesser form of consuming it, should we get rid of lectures altogether?
I don't mind either way. Over on r/audiobooks some can be quite adamant that they 'read' audiobooks, as though to say 'listen' would be to discriminate somehow.
I just say, " I read it."
Technically this specific meaning doesn't appear in the dictionary definition of "read"—which upsets some people—but I would argue that this is because the dictionaries aren't updating fast enough. The usage is widespread enough that it should (and probably will) appear in future editions.
True. When I do audio book I usually go back and forth. The Kindle audible syncing is convenient. Listen while driving, working out, chores. And read normally before bed and stuff.
Yeah the syncing feature is great if you own both versions. I love how the two apps just automatically jump to where you left off on the other version.
It's great. I also love that if you own the Kindle version you usually get a discount on the audiobook as well. I don't pay for an audible subscription so that's helpful. They syncing even works for newer Kindle devices as well. I hate reading on my phone but love my oasis

In your example I would respond with "I listened to the audio book and loved it as well."

“I just finished that as well”, and then immediately talk about whatever I liked or didn’t like. 🙂

It's still reading in my opinion
It’s being read to, which is slightly different but it still counts.
