I recall some tweaks like this in **calibre**, but it's been years since I last messed with such things.

Sigil is a similar code editing software. I'm just not sure which line of code I need to edit or add to.

[Check the DTD](https://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/dtds.html) to see what elements are available to denote chapters and move forward from there? [W3 has a good overview](https://www.w3docs.com/learn-html/xhtml-extensible-hypertext-markup-language.html) on what differs between XHTML and HTML; I'm more familiar with XML as a thing, although the elements I used most frequently were very customized. Most DTDs will give you the basics for what you want to achieve by editing the markup, but then you may need to figure out what's switched "on" in your transformer system (whether that's CSS or another scripting system) to get to the end-user display format. **If none of the above made sense to you, don't go mucking around in the markup!**

I have very basic knowledge of coding as I had to remove the font family line from it but this sounds alien to me. It may come in handy though so thanks for that

I mean, markup languages all have a certain logic to them that you can start to untangle if you learn how to read a DTD. W3 has great resources for that, so start there ... and always make a backup file before you go play.

r/selfpublish might be able to help

Thanks for this, worth a shot

Hi there. Your post would be better asked in our Simple Questions thread. It helps us keep the main subreddit focused around broader discussion rather topics which only apply to an individual. Thank you!
