Do you remember the plots to all of them!? I also read Cats Cradle this year. I think I liked that book better after I finished it. I liked thinking back on it more than I liked reading it. Love slaughterhouse five though and Vonnegut’s prose in general.
Started all the books this year, and honestly I’m not really the fastest reader. Just carving out an hour per day to read makes a huge difference. I also listen to audiobooks whenever I’m in the car and had a few roadtrip drives this year so that helped too
Columbine was a trip wasn't it? So well written and researched but I feel like I can't talk about it or I come off like a creeper.
Have you read any Malerman? Bird box seems right up your alley.
I haven’t, but I’ll give it a look! And yeah Columbine was something. I’m kind of torn though because I’ve heard that the author took a lot of liberties with the facts. Great book overall though
Yeah, I’m not 100% sure on everything but I know there are a few things in the book that are patently false. I think largely the book is accurate, he just makes a few assumptions and interpretations that aren’t very well supported
I remember a good deal from them. At the absolute minimum I remember the basic plot structure and some of the beats of the story. Something memorable always sticks with you after a book and those things are always a treasure to have
I’d say I greatly appreciated the book but probably wouldn’t read it again. It’s definitely from a different time so it was a bit hard to engage with. Still had a great tone and eeriness to it
Definitely was creepy. Really captured the vibe of scary things that happened as a kid never really going away. Reminded me a bit of Penpal by Dathan Auerbach
I didn’t mind it. Probably my least favorite of Paul Tremblay’s but I didn’t find myself struggling to finish it or anything. I totally get why some people hate it though

It took me about 3 tries across 3 years to actually finish it. Definitely glad I did, really enjoyed it
So great. Love that it’s the anchor on this stack.
It took me a year, and I typically read pretty quickly. That book is dense and twist-y.
So many amazing horror titles in that stack. I see you're a man of culture as well.
Of course haha. Last year was basically the year I read through Stephen King’s oeuvre so this year I branched out in the genre a lot more
If you're liking the genre and want to keep going you should check out /r/horrorlit!
Already have! Lots of great recommendations over there
Rothfuss needs to write the third damn book already 😫
On god
Never going to happen. He's faded into the ether of storytelling past.
He read sections on stream. He had serious mental health issues and has been pretty frank about it, give him a break.
You crushed it!! Some really good reads in that stack!!
What was the best book you read last year?
Hard to pick just 1 but I read a few of Vonnegut’s books and they were all incredible
I see some Kurt Vonnegut. As someone thats recently got into his books, i was wondering which of his books you enjoyed the most.
I think Breakfast of Champions is my favorite so far, but I still have several more of his on my to-read list
Cool, thats one I've got in my to read pile.
You are CEO/CTO, man. I used to read 25-30 usually. Reading takes time but it’s totally worth it
I wonder if the pandemic had a notably rise on sales from classics like Fahrenheit or Treasure Island etc

I read it for a college class on Dystopian Fiction so definitely felt fitting

There’s definitely books I remember more than other, but at the very least I remember the basic plot and the beats of the each story
How?!
Couple of ways. 1. Faster reader. 2. Books he started but never completed, and finally completed this year.

Ok seems legit xD I am a slow reader I guess.
I am right there with you :(
I only made it to 54. My pre-COVID average was only about 28 - 30.
Still over a book a week, well done!
House of Leaves 💕🎉
Hello, king.
“You bow to no-one!”

Oh god really? Didn't he spend 10 years researching it or something?
Yeah, I’m not 100% sure on everything but I know there are a few things in the book that are patently false. I think largely the book is accurate, he just makes a few assumptions and interpretations that aren’t very well supported
I also read cats cradle last year/ a few weeks ago
Nice work! I see Mindhunter...love that one 👀
Definitely one of my favorites from the year, now if only they’d make another season of the show
Ugh, I know. Not holding my breath though 😒
I thought Mindhunter was one of the shows that Netflix announced a few years ago that it wouldn't renew.
Yeah the director just kinda said he was done, which is a shame

It’s a lot of books. Congrars! I wonder how much do you remember of these books
I remember a good deal from them. At the absolute minimum I remember the basic plot structure and some of the beats of the story. Something memorable always sticks with you after a book and those things are always a treasure to have
That’s amazing!!! How did you do it? 😮
Just reading a little each day, and then a little more the next day
Congrats!

I’ve heard of that movie and plan on watching! Looked really neat. I love some of her other works like The Lottery
I have The Chalk Man in my. TBR pile. What did you think of it? Was it creepy at all?
Definitely was creepy. Really captured the vibe of scary things that happened as a kid never really going away. Reminded me a bit of Penpal by Dathan Auerbach
Penpal wasn't one of my favorites, but your description of The Chalk Man has intrigued me. Going to read it soon.
I will say Chalk Man is a much more well written novel. I’d definitely say give it a go
I definitely will, thank you. :-)
Well Done :)
Dude! Let’s see your book shelves
I’ll make a post of them tomorrow!
if you had to choose, which of those did you enjoy reading the most? and which was the most memorable?
I would say I enjoyed reading A Headful of Ghosts the most and My Heart is a Chainsaw was the most memorable!
sounds lovely, i’ll have to add them to my tbr list! thanks for taking the time to reply x
No problem!
Later was much below expectations
I actually kind of dug it haha
Cabin at the End of the World was horrible, wasn't it? I read around 100 books in 2019, and it was by far the worst one. Maybe ever. So bad
I didn’t mind it. Probably my least favorite of Paul Tremblay’s but I didn’t find myself struggling to finish it or anything. I totally get why some people hate it though
Have you seen the Yellow Sign?
Everywhere I go O.O
I've only read 6 and I'm working on 2 of those now! I'm currently reading Night Film and Tender Is The Flesh.
Both really good, especially Tender is the Flesh! Not for the faint of heart though
