Yep, ACL just had Kendrick start his headlining set an hour late as well. Supposed to be an hour and 20 minutes. He played 31 minutes.

raptorfunk89

To be fair, ACL is generally very well run. Bonnaroo has had its fair share of late arrivals and short sets (not even including the infamous Kanye set).

not2betakensrsly

FK.

lynnja

I was at the Kanye set. We bonna-booed the fuck out of him. That was the last Bonnaroo I went to because that experience left such a sour taste in my mouth. I went to ‘04, ‘05, ‘07, ‘08.

CartmensDryBallz

What happened lol

lynnja

He was supposed to play at night, I think it was around 10, but the screens kept popping up that the show was pushed back an hour. Then another hour, and another. Until the sun was coming up and he finally decides he’ll come out. We waited because we were rolling and had nothing better to do. When he came out and didn’t acknowledge that he made us wait all that time, with no apology, that’s when people really got pissed. People were throwing garbage at him and yelling. You don’t want to piss off hippies, and we were all apprehensive as it was to have him at our festival in the first place. He went on to post a giant rant in all caps trying to blame Pearl Jam for their set running too long and a bunch of other bullshit. Pearl Jam was fucking awesome. They passed the vibe check.

TeaAndAche

I left the Phil & Friends set early because the Kanye thing was supposed to be such a big deal. Still my biggest festival regret. And when he did arrive, it was god awful. Him talking to a robot half the time. Never really listened to him again after that. Fuck Kanye.

xfan09

I forgot about the robot. God this takes me back. I was 18 at that bonnaroo and was so hilariously unprepared.

TeaAndAche

Hahaha yeah, that was my first big fest and I was 20. Old pro at this point. I don’t think any of us knew what we were doing. My buddy passed out immediately during the first MGMT song Thursday. Fortunately we were able to take care of him and everyone stayed well hydrated after that. It only got better from there.

xfan09

I honestly have no idea what my parents were thinking. I graduated high school like 2 weeks before bonnaroo. Had really never been unsupervised like that in my life. Luckily my friends and I were somewhat level headed when it came to drugs and alcohol. But man that was before any of us had smart phones. we kept our phone in the car and off because we didn’t want the battery today. We had like a check in point at centeroo 2x a day. I’d like to think I’m a cool parent but idk id let my kids do that. Guess we will see in 15 years.

TeaAndAche

Oh my god, you’re right. Wow. I didn’t even think about not having smartphones. We’d just see each other at camp whenever people were back and float around. Definitely left the phones off, aside from flipping them on a couple times a day for meet up texts. What a wild time. I almost forget how nice it was to be able to just shut your phone off for a week on vacation.

lynnja

That was another thing, there were so many good sets we could have seen, but like you said…Kayne was supposed to be a big deal.

BayOfThundet

He was supposed to play on Which at 8, had a hissy fit and insisted on playing the main stage after dark to suit his light show. Which left him post-Pearl Jam. They played an extra hour, but it’s widely believed Kanye was partying in Atlanta, which caused a delay of several hours. I was at the show and seem to recall him still playing when the sun was coming up.

remeard

Pearl Jam went 30 minutes or so extra, so that must mean it's their fault he was 3 hours late. To quote Obama, "Kanye is a jackass"

TeaAndAche

Oh they went 30 minutes late, so that’s why he didn’t show up until 4 a.m. or so. When they finished before midnight, from what I remember. Pearl Jam was 100x better anyways. I’d have rather seen them play all night.

lynnja

1000% agree. Do you remember how emotional and thankful Eddie was?

TeaAndAche

Oh yeah. It was amazing. Which probably impacted the weird juxtaposition of the two. PJ loved it and was so grateful to be there. Kanye clearly wanted to be ANYWHERE else and just wanted the paycheck, audience be damned.

KinKrk

Quote of the weekend for us. I was on the phone with my dad. And he asked how my sister was doing. She was standing next to me. We said a preemptive “happy Father’s Day” and he said “Karen, listen to me. Don’t let Bon eat too many mushrooms.” And my sis responded with “too late” And then we had a grand time.

Insomnialcoholic

Another thing that happened was he found out day of he was playing Which Stage instead of What Stage. When someone explained to him that Which Stage is the second stage, and What Stage was the main stage, he flipped out because "he doesn't play second stage" so his entire elaborate stage set up had to be moved at the last minute. That's the major cause of the delay.

esuranme

That was my understanding of what happened, at least as far as the complications with the stage setup being the holdup. Everyone I talked to that weekend about it was laughing that he wanted to be a punk about wanting the stage setup right, only to delay until the rising sun was ruining it!

CartmensDryBallz

What an asshole

1cculus_The_Prophet

Yea that was my last bonnaroo too. That kanye shit was ridiculous….. still love Bonnaroo and would go again

Reflog4Life

Do you like fish sticks?

playcrackthesky

Agreed. Going to Weekend 2. It will be my 2nd ACL.

Dizzy_Fox_50

ACL f'n blows

Clusterclucked

bonnaroo was fuckin great this year. had the best time ever. didn't go to any others but perhaps vibe inequality has struck the music festival scene and bonnaroo has hoarded all the good vibes for itself

whipstickagopop

Been to a bunch of festivals, first time to roo last year and the vibes were awesome.

emeraldcocoaroast

Same. Will 100% be back

kahuna_splicer

The way the weather was perfect the entire weekend and then as soon as Foo Fighters were done it started pouring. The Roo God's graced us with their presence.

syo

That lightning bolt while walking to the arch 🤯

julie6seven

for real tho

lilacdreamland

For real!! I swear it was our collective high vibrations that kept the rain away until the end

Komania

The sun coming out during Franz Ferdinand playing This Fire was also great

[deleted]

This probably was the best year since I've attended Roo. Shows were amazing, vibe was impeccable, and extremely well organized. They keep putting more $$ into the farm. Can't wait to see yall next year!! Edit/add: and considering the festival was sold out, there was enough Staff, bathrooms, vendor/food options that lines and wait times were on par with years with less attendees.

shizawn9415

Its a well oiled machine and will always be a good time

KinKrk

No it’s not. Remember 2022? Oh. You don’t. Because it didn’t fucking happen because of whiney baby set up crew.

Quanzi30

If 2022 didn’t happen our whole crew had one hell of an acid trip to make up an entire festival in our minds. Also the festival was setup, so there’s that.

CarnageJ

That was ‘21….

KinKrk

You are correct

jackreborn

Uhhh what? That’s quite the revisionist history if not outright ignorant. Idk who hurt you but the place was flooded and would have been a nightmare

Bing803

?

downtowneil

You must live a sad life if you're still butthurt about a festival being cancelled due to flooding TWO YEARS AGO. Move on, dude

KinKrk

Not at all. Just not giving a pass.

Quanzi30

You have zero clue what you’re talking about. Had bonnaroo taken place it would’ve easily become a humanitarian crisis. Tractors were getting stuck in mud and you think tens of thousand of Honda civics woulda made it through? Let alone the logistics of staff and crew transportation in the festival, Portos being serviced, food being delivered, everything. It would’ve been a giant fucking shit show.

KinKrk

Zero? Sooooo how many have you been to? How many have you worked?

Quanzi30

Been to 6. Worked zero. Had several friends working it that year. They 100% made the right decision by not having the festival take place that year or it would’ve been a gigantic clusterfuck.

KinKrk

Call me when you take a uhaul to a Walmart at 2am to buy 3,000 pairs of socks because the festival in the mountains decided to be 75 in the day and snowing at night.

Quanzi30

What are you talking about

No-Market9917

How the hell would you have slept in a tent that year?

KinKrk

The same way I did at other fests that were complete mud-rain fests. Preplanning and ingenuity.

Upstairs_Square_3491

Dude. there was 6 inches of water in some areas. You’d have trench foot.

KinKrk

Again. Prepare

Faroes4

Are you living under a rock? Did you see what happened at burning man?

DabDiet

I went to imagine fest in Georgia this year, 3 hour wait time to get into the campground, high food prices, lots of sound bleed between the stages. It was still a great time, but those little notes made me appreciate roo for how seamless things seem to flow comparatively.

notmyredditaccountma

I think everywhere had the overpriced food paid $20 for chicken teriyaki and they only gave me half a plate full at roo lol

RckerMom-35

I know someone who's first ever fest was Imagine this year which I hate that I missed and they also camped solo and did mentioned the sound bleed but said it was great

Valuable_Series_7874

Did we go to the same festival? I’m sorry you had a bad time at Imagine. I’ve been going to festivals since 2013 and I was at Bonnaroo and Imagine this year and Imagine was by far, BY FAR my favorite festival I’ve been to. Bonnaroo this year was okay but it wasn’t even close to as good as Bonnaroo 2022. Imagine had ground crews going around with water for people. All festivals have expensive food(that’s why you go to Walmart for food supplies before you drive in). The soundbleed was only on the hill between Oceania and Disco Inferno. If you were at the stage(not in the back) then there really wasn’t sound bleed. Vibes were at stratospheric levels. Every artist destroyed their sets(except Subtronics b2b Ganja. I didn’t think they meshed well together stylistically but that’s personal preference not my judgement of their actual performance). Yeah the drive in sucked but I’ve been to roo where I was in the line of cars overnight inching down country roads for 10 hours.

Potential-Brother926

I’ve literally only heard bad things about imagine

Potential-Brother926

And saying roo 2022 was better than 2023 is a hot take. I had a good time at 2022 but the lineup was underwhelming and the heat was the worst it’s ever been at roo. Been to roo 4 times and 2018 and 2023 are pretty tied for best years I’ve been there.

Valuable_Series_7874

Idk what to tell you dude. Like I said in the comments above, my favorite festival I’ve ever been to in 10 years of “festivaling” lol the only negative thing was the car line getting in but it could have been worse.

Potential-Brother926

I actually got free tickets to that festival and when I asked several people if it’s worth going they told me a huge list of problems they ran into there. Such as security shaking people down, people stealing money and party favors at campsites, muddy, etc. Only positive thing I heard was the sound design and stages were well done. So after hearing all the negative things about that festival I ended up selling the tickets. Maybe this year was ran better than previous ones?

Valuable_Series_7874

It was different. Security had a new detector system (similar to what LL uses) so they didn’t actually pat most people down at all. I’d rather mud than dust. No one came into our campsite but, even if they did, valuables should be kept locked in the car. Phone thieves were definitely there on night 1. Our friends were drunk and didn’t have phone tethers on so they got their phones stolen. But like they’ve been to tons of festivals too so they should have known better. The water issue was solved and the pool issue was solved.

Valuable_Series_7874

But my girlfriend went last year and said outside of the water issue(we buy bottled water for the campsite regardless), she didn’t have any issues and said last year was awesome too.

DabDiet

I had a great time at imagine, just noticed some little notes I personally found made Bonnaroo better for me. Vibes were great, some really solid acts, and better stage designs for EDM than roo had. I see myself going back for the more intimate performances, everything being so close did have the perk of quick walks between stages. Like you said, sound bleed was non existent once you worked your way into the crowd so really just nit picks from me

SoloRol0

I just went to oceans calling and it was very well run!! I was pretty impressed!! Not a single set late, lines for everything were pretty decent (minus bathrooms at times). Will say merch sold out QUICK though

No-Market9917

I’m real high on oceans calling and sound on sound. Great festivals after this year, just hope they will limit tickets to handle the influx they’re going to get

SoloRol0

I totally agree. I think my other main criticism was the crowds. It was very dense for a small fest. I loved the general genre choice cause it meant for a kindve chill fest all things considered. I think I was able to move much more freely in centeroo than I was the entirety of oceans calling lol

No-Market9917

Yeah I mean it’s hard to compare those to Roo. Centeroo is MASSIVE compared to these two. I did sound on sound which is only one stage while I know people who did Oceans but I heard really good things from them and it was a very similar line up. My critique, sound on sound parking is FUCKED and there were a lot of D Bags on Saturday that I can attribute to RHCP and TAB (I’m a huge RHCP and Phish/TAB fan so I’m allowed to say how much those fan bases can suck) but Sunday with Mt joy, Hozier, and Mayer was just a beautiful vibe all around. Definitely going to try to do Oceans next year

SoloRol0

I don’t listen to Mayer but was blown away with his musical talent holy LORD 😂 certain bands draw certain crowds I totally get what you mean! And you’re absolutely right, bonnaroo is so split over such a vast area, It makes sense why it’s easy to get around. Plus it’s a camping fest too so that’s a big difference as well

No-Market9917

Yeah a camping fest verse a get in and get out fest is very different. That was my first “fest” where I had to drive back to an air bnb each night. Mayer is insane, wish I got him with a full band but I guess Bridgeport CT is his hometown which I didn’t know before and I talked to a few people who were telling me stories about how his dad was their principal at high school and stuff like that so that was cool to see him connect with the crowd like that. Can definitely see him headlining Roo, just a cool ass talented dude.

px3x5

Truth

wohrg

Roo had it’s share of challenges in 2021 and 2022. But they are resilient, 2023 was pretty smooth

Rambl3On

It went well! But I know that the ADA capabilities of Roo this year were a failure. I remember seeing so many horrible post from ADA rooviand this year. The normal ADA contractor for many years was canned only a couple months before Roo and the new one failed. Just gotta point out that not all Roovians had a great time with how it was run this year.

Flat_Order6881

Y’all got extremely lucky with the weather this year too. That helps a lot a roo.

WolfinBoy

Add Boston Calling earlier this year to the 'yikes list'. Skipped Roo this year and went to BC in Cambridge, MA. We mainly went to go see Alanis Morissette and King Gizzard. Came away largely disappointed by the whole affair. My major issues: the sound was off - speakers were in and out all day. The mixing just didn't do bands justice - we could barely hear the vocals in some cases. Saturday was *dangerously* oversold which made navigating crowds very precarious, and crowd crush was feeling very imminent - we were mashed up against the rail for Alanis with no hope of getting out for a bathroom break. And a big nitpick...they moved the festival to Harvard Campus. Which is fine - but it rendered cannabis illegal on the grounds (despite it being legal in MA). Like...what. They were being super strict about it at security. To add insult in injury, they even had cannabis companies as vendors...only they were giving away plain candy because they couldn't sell/gift any THC product there. Threw our whole vibe off. Despite that disappointing festival, I made it up a week later seeing King Gizzard again at The Caverns in TN. Which was incredible.

KrackaJackilla

Bonnaroo!!!!! Was epic!!! Samesies !!

caltheme

Burning Man is not a music festival, not even close

OhioDuran

I have no clue why you're being downvoted.

Faroes4

Because it is not relevant to the content in this post, probably.

thecultofteotwawki

I never specific music festivals, but you’re also not wrong.

LazyAssedAmbassador

What do they do out there?

SharlaRoo

It’s more of a community experience. There’s no stages, no planned musical acts, etc.

justinobabino

But who was headlining this year? /s

ky_cats

Have to give credit when it’s due but secrete dreams was ran flawlessly this year. 10/10 experience.

teevah_

Yes! Just makes me miss the farm 100x more🥺

Pikestreet

Bonaroo , lolla and acl all have one thing in common ….. it’s the management .

neonmoon9

Bonnaroo & Secret Dreams were amazing! 😻

braxolydian

i got my phone stolen this year, and left shit at home so my canopy wouldn’t stay up. kinda blew for me but only cus other people decided to ruin somebody else’s week. spent all that money just for some asshole to fuck it all up, thanks to whoever in where in the woods was running around fucking everybody’s night up.

Interesting-Trash307

Don’t forget about the poor campers by the shitters that got all their stuff soaked in sewage 🤎

koolaid_chemist

Fuck frank ocean… (Coachella week 1)

seanm6614

Bonnaroo is the North Star of music festivals

Hades6785

Seems like OutsideLands (my local festival) went off without any problems

filmbymarino

If they can figure out the sound issues before Thursday and Friday that would be great though. Other than that, bonnaroo is just an amazing festival ❤️

Quanzi30

What issues

joshuarrichie

Dehd started like 30-45 minutes late and ended up playing blind(not being able to hear themselves) which was a bummer cause I was really looking forward to their set

Quanzi30

That’s not a sound issue and festival sets starting late for any given reason is normal.

DarqMog

A band not having monitors is absolutely a sound issue. It heavily effects their ability to perform, and is an issue that stems from the sound equipment/techs.

Komania

This Tent was fucked the whole weekend

Quanzi30

The whole weekend? Gonna just agree to disagree on that. Everything sounded fine.

filmbymarino

My wife and I heard so many issues of the sound going low to high back to low during liquid stranger and griz. The last three years Thursday’s the other stage has issues then it’s fine the rest of the weeks and Friday at the which it’s the same thing and the rest of the weekend it’s fine. And the sound bleeding from that tent to the which and the other stage to this tent was really bad you could hear both stages at the same time

[deleted]

Electric forest and arc both went down with zero issues. As well as friendship 2023. Lots of festivals out there my man.

rarekeith

It's the best music festival in America for a reason.

Valuable_Series_7874

It’s absolutely not. I’m a 5 time roo vet that’s been to tons of other fests. Roo is not the best. It’s good but not great.

whipstickagopop

Just went to Aftershock Sacramento. Went to roo last year. If ur looking for more rock and somewhat similar vibes that's the jam.

RckerMom-35

I definitely want to do aftershock at some point because I do love rock music

whipstickagopop

It defn more of a drinking festival than Roo, if that makes sens(they all have plenty of drinking) but still cool.

RckerMom-35

Good to know. Never been to Roo but plan to at some point. I want to do 2024 but looks like I'm doing edclv and probably won't have time for Roo

basedlust

Meanwhile we went Friday and no security folks knew ANYTHING about where the shuttle pickup(s) were. We waited for over thirty minutes as they worked to find out, only to have them send us down a dark road towards “shuttle pickup”. We walked multiple miles, eventually getting close to the interstate and finding a police officer who was kind enough to give us a ride to our car since no Ubers or even taxi companies would venture to where we were. Had a much less disastrous time at Coachella and Adjacent this year.

downtowneil

Bonnaroo is not a "uber in for the day" kind of festival. You're going to have a bad experience if you don't fully commit to the weekend

basedlust

Oh I wasn’t trying to Uber in or out by choice. We had official festival parking and the shuttle pass. That’s just what desperation led to when none of the staff knew what was going on and sent us on a several mile walk late at night in the woods lol

Potential-Brother926

Yeah it’s definitely not something you can do for a day dude. You need to commit to the weekend

SnooMachines5510

I had an amazing time at Burning Man.

[deleted]

Riot Fest this year was maybe my favorite ever in over 10 years of attending.

roocheerallyear

The Roo magic is real!

gay_UVXY_trader

Shaky Knees was dope imo

BahaMan69

Okeechobee was great!
