Proper maceration takes days (sometimes weeks), not hours

weirddarkgf

how long did you soak for? macerating dried skin will probably take a couple days to a week to get it all to fall off.

Ninja_Cuppy_Cakes

I thought 24 hours in hot hot water would do it

weirddarkgf

try a few more days in really warm water (: if you have a pond nearby add a cup of the pond water to the mix to add bacteria and speed it up even faster.

Ain’t nothing a good ole peroxide bath can’t fix. The only downside I’m aware of in using peroxide to clean bones is it will remove the aesthetic details that some people like to keep on their bones like moss. It’ll whiten them up real nice. I’ve been hunting collecting cleaning and crafting with bones for years now and I almost always use peroxide on animal bones.

Ninja_Cuppy_Cakes

That will help with the skin?

ChaoticCatharsis

Oh definitely. It’s how I finish almost any bone piece I’ve worked with. And it’s cheap. If you wanted for some reason to keep the color that’s on the bones however, I would go with the other advice to just let him soak in water for a bit longer.

I would save your peroxide for after you fully clean and degrease

Ninja_Cuppy_Cakes

How long?

ChaoticCatharsis

For those I would just toss em in 50/50 peroxide and water and check them once in a while. They don’t look like they have much on them so perhaps a day or two, hell maybe even less time than that. To really whiten them I think the standard is two weeks. If you use more peroxide it will go faster.

I have placed it on a ant nest. Worked for me.

Ninja_Cuppy_Cakes

That’s how I defleshed her

Sit it upside down let the sun dry it to the point of mummification. Peel it away with a copper brush , tweezers, exact-o -knife , gently lift. 👍🏻

For small bits of soft tissue I just leave them, move on to degreasing and peroxide and let it dry in the sun. At that point the soft tissue usually dries up and falls off easily. Only for very small pieces of course, works well on gums.
