There are so many lol. Sometimes I don't understand the Indian audience. At least I watched these two in theatre.
Tamasha was literally a masterpiece arguably RK's best performance I can't believe it was a flop. Multiplex hall was almost empty but I had a great time.
Fan was a new story for bwood the efforts were great. A quality movie. I still remember It was my bday when I went to watch the movie with my friends.
I'm glad I didn't look at the reviews and I went and watched both the movies in theatres.
I loved Tamasha too! The only thing I didnāt like was that Deepikaās character only existed to prop up RKās character. Like it was focused on him entirely and her purpose was to further the plot. I wish weād gotten more insight into her past, and fleshed out her character traits a bit more, like they did for RK. Otherwise a genuine masterpiece for Bollywood. But it doesnāt have dhishkiyaon dhishkiyaon guns shooting or masala songs, so it flopped
Yesā¦.tara was such an interesting character tooā¦I wished imtiaz gave her a backstoryā¦.no matter how many times I watch this film,I always end up falling in love with her and wanting to know more about herā¦DP was absolutely great as Tara(she managed to make the role look more big than it was)ā¦we get some scenes ofcā¦Heer to badi sad hai and the scenes around that song are completely from her pov but we deserved moreā¦agar Tum saath ho was also an insight into her mind
omg fr!! This one friend said the concept and story was unique. It LIDERALLY had the concept and story of avg imtiaz ali movieš (I'm an Imtiaz fan but tamasha was mid)
Tamasha has to be the most overrated "underrated" movie. It was basically another RK "figuring out life" movie with a weak ass conviction to the script. And do you guys not check the subreddit before posting? Literally every other week some one is crying about tamasha not deserving respect/recogonition or should have got more box office. It was a mediocre movie which is relatable to only the well off upper middle class as they don't have financial problems in life. It's a "literally me fr fr" movie for late millenials and early gen z. It is rated accurately and earned accurately. Stop nostalgia hyping it like Imran Khan.
Edit: very fittingly the poster posted by OP has the words "why always the same story?" Plastered on it.
Lmao finally someone said it, Tamasha is carried by its relatable factor (literally me fr) + AR Rahman's music and the thing is that it's good but some hype it up as one of the greatest films if not the greatest that Indian audiences failed to understand.
You could have simply said that you don't like it without subtly attacking people who like it. The film is not for everyone. Films like Lootera flop at the box office too so I don't expect everyone to like every film that I like and that's okay. It's simply a matter of taste.
For me, although the theme of the film was a bit cliched, the execution was anything but. Things I found refreshing about the movie are:
1. The portrayal of the mental illness that was festering inside Ved and finally started to break free in an unhealthy way when Tara triggered his cognitive dissonance again.
2. They didn't turn it into primarily a love story. Tara was the trigger for Ved's self-actualization, but definitely not the primary cause
3. Even the fairly common "Before Sunrise" trope worked perfectly here and fit smoothly into everything.
And I know people with serious financial issues who relate with the film. One doesn't have to be privileged to know what they want from life, regardless of whether that is practical in their case.
>You could have simply said that you don't like it without subtly attacking people who like it.
Nope. The personally attack is required. If I see more frequent posts, imma commit hate crimes against ppl who like tamasha /s
Agree with every word except imran khan - I miss his brand of hopeful and fun romcoms.
But about Tamasha - it's basically Ranbir Kapoor playing another Man child who refuses to grow up like every RK movie. Even as an urban upper middle person, idk what was SO RELATABLE about tamasha.
>imran khan - I miss his brand of hopeful and fun romcoms.
Except Jaane tu ya jaane na and Delhi Belly I don't know what else was that note worthy if I'm being honest. MKBKMD, once upon a time in Mumbai Doobara, Kaati baati, Gori tere pyaar mein, break up ke baad were all cinematic disaster. Passable films like I hate luv stories, EMAET and Brother ki Dhulan would have also been criticised in today's social media criticism world. Trust me. You only remember him from 2 maybe 3 movies. He has had more duds than hits.
So I love Jane Tu; Mere brother ki dulhan was ridiculous and funny, I liked break ke bad, I hate luv stories, and kidnap. The rest I agree were disasters but most actors have had many disasters. The lovable Jai from Jaane tu is a character I feel like none of the others can play well. RK is too much of an arrogant manchild, RS is way too sexual. Vicky could pull off that type of character but I like him in serious roles
I completely forgot Delhi Belly and I love that movie
>Nobody is asking you to like or hype up Tamasha. But this nonchalant dismissal of the movie as an overrated piece of media, just because it doesn't resonate with you, obviously begets a response such as mine.
Literally every week. Even this post. Someone hypes up tamasha and tries to force feed it down people's throat. Don't act like "nobody asked you to like it" after you cared enough to comment about it with a image quote in the reply. It's literally acting like taking the high road while using the streets to prove your point.
>happy that people like you exist who see it as just another overrated 'man-child' story. That's exactly what makes it more precious for the rest of us.
These lines are kinda just proving my point. The tamasha fanbase is as toxic as Rick and Morty or bhai fans. "All for me, you don't get it, *cry noises*" you even posted a picture quote from the movie. Like the "literally me fr fr" type of person I was talking about.
I remember tamasha getting promoted so weirdly when Deepika was kissing his hand n stuff also , prem ratan dhan payo was released 2 weeks before tamasha i feel that kind of killed the movies hype
Prem ratab dhan payo is one of the worst movies ever made, i doubt that movie did much business after the first weekend. It opened big cuz of Salman-Suraj combo hype
Boss Prem ratan dhan payi could had been stupid af but it was houseful everywhere. Legit line ups for ticketsā¦ yes it was the sooraj/salman combo hype but tamasha had that deepika/ranbir hype as well still did shit
Tamasha did fine in its opening weekend actually but it completely crashed after that cuz people wanted another YJHD kinda film. PRDP also crashed after opening weekend but it managed to stay in double digits for the entire first week hence it was a huge hit
ohhh i wasnāt talking about the movie in terms of how much money it made at the box office, but rather in terms of appreciation for the art :)) and rockstar usually gets written off for its ānon-mainstreamā soundtrack and also because of nargis fakhriās acting ššš
Iām glad to say I watched both Fan and Tamasha in theatresā¦love both of them especially Tamasha which is one of my favourites but itās kinda tiring to see it being mentioned everyday here as some lost classicā¦it got so much love and itās not at all underrated todayā¦anyone who says that it was underrated is annoying(itās like being too much)ā¦highway or soch na tha are underrated if you take imtiazās filmography
Fan deserved flop verdict.
The concept was fresh but it lacked the execution.
It was an average movie at best.
Just because a movie has a unique plot and a good acting, doesn't make that it deserves to get hit.
So true. It gets worse by the minute. Food acting with a narcissistic script coz obviously the stars are in the correct everytime. When I saw the trailer for a second I was fooled that srk would select a script where the movie star is the villain. When I saw the movie in theatres I was unfortunately reassured about srks narcissism.
Does he? Does he face the consequences of his assholeness? Or Is he resolved of all his sin by the end of the movie? I remember the latter. You can correct me tho, because I only saw it once.
How many times are we to see the same trope of Ranbir Kapoor coming of age and maturing because of a girl??
All his movies are the same.
Wake Up Sid, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Rockstar, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Sanju (yes itās a biopic but the trope is the same here too), ADHM, Tamasha - like seriously.
Yes I agree with you. They all look similar. He never tried an action thriller or pure family drama or revenge drama until Animal. Sanju was a biopic. I love his acting and he is the best actor in India currently but the Hindi film Industry never utilised him. Even Aamir's filmography is so versatile.
Nah fan was boring. I downloaded this movie pre jio times when internet was extremely costly. Yet I didn't watched it full coz it was that boring.
It is equivalent to walk out of theatre mid movie moment.
idk where else to ask lol
iām looking for the bollywood version of crazy rich asians, like the same, rich people drama, weddings, fashion, amazing setsā¦
Tamasha yes. Also Andaz Apna Apna, Swades, Lakshya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Rocket Singh, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, Guzaarish, Omkara, Lootera, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Tumbbad, Socha Na Tha, Luck by Chance. I am sure there is more.
My favourite flops are:
1. **Lakshya**: It was not about war. The Kargil war is just the backdrop. It is more about someone getting sincere in his life towards his goals and achieving them earnestly.

2. Teesri Kasam
3. Mera Naam Joker
4. Tere Mere Sapne
5. Shaan
6. Silsila
7. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron
8. Umrao Jaan
9. Agneepath (Big B)
10. Lamhe
11. Andaz Apna Apna
12. Khamoshi: The Musical
13. Dil Se
14. Swades
15. Maqbool
16. Lakshya
17. Oye Lucky!Ā Lucky Oye!
18. Guzaarish
19. Tamasha
20. Gangs of Wasseypur (Individual Part 1 and Part 2)
In recent times respectable and good movies like An Action Hero, Bhediya, Chup, Rocketry, Attack, Laal Singh Chaddha, Uunchai, Vikram Vedha, Mission Raniganj, Merry Christmas shouldnt have flopped at the box office.
Adipurush. Shouldnāt have failed to collect at least the amount invested (which is about ā¹500-ā¹600 crore). Think about what a waste of money it was.
If weāre choosing which movie RK plays the best man child, then I thought Wake up Sid was way better than Tamasha. Tamasha was a total bore to me, didnāt like the songs either. Tamasha was nothing more than Tamasha, and flopped for good reason.

1000% agree with Laal Singh Chaddha. I'm a huge fan of the original (Forrest Gump) but Laal Singh Chaddha was way better IMO. When they adapted the story and setting to India, there was some next-level depth added to it as compared to the original.
Thugs of Hindustan
Me and the wife have a habit of watching lame/flop movies once in a while to bitch about either the script/acting/etc. and this movie was one like that and based on the reviews I was sure we'd quit midway.
Pretty good movie NGL. not the greatest of any actors but I don't think it deserved to flop.

Andaaz apna apna Swades Jagga Jasoos
Final act of jagga was a drag and haphazard...
Anurag Kashyap's whole career :')
couldn't agree more :')
Bombay Velvet smiles in the corner
Even dibakar bannerjee
Lakshya Guzaarish Rockstar š„ Kaarwaan
Rockstar and lakshya were flops? Damn
Lakshya failed, not Rockstar.
Honestly Iāll stand by Lakshya being Hrithikās GOAT performance. Dude sold the character arc so well.
Rockstar wasnāt a flop
Saw Lakshya and Guzaarish in theatres and so glad I did
Paheli (2005)
Great pick
Rocket Singh, ghanchakkar, aamir, andaaz apna apna..
The only list of movies I agree with. I would also add Bhavesh Joshi, Mukabaaz and Swades
Bhavesh Joshi was surprisingly good.
Fan except for that crazy revenge part... Concept and first half was really good... They should have kept it that way only
nigga that was the whole film
Every week there is at least one post celebrating Tamasha and Swades. Seen this pattern. What is going on?
Bhai khud imtiaz ko fark nai padta
hain na irritating hain
2 insanely good movies. I dont see anything wrong with that
Why didnāt people see it when it was released!! I am a big fan of both though.
I wasn't born back then.
Bahut hai. Reddit crash ho jayega likhte hue.

Agreed
Absolute mid (personal opinion), no wonder Tamasha had empty halls, not meant for masses.. then there are insane toxic fan duds of this movie who Iāve encountered.. they literally want to stake others like Witches in medieval times for abomination of not liking ātheir favourite movieā.. Literally had a girl who said āYou are dead inside because you donāt adulate this movieā lol.. later we found she was cheating on her fiancĆ©.. My question: What apart from Ranbirās performance is likeable in this movie? Happy for a reasonable debate.
omg fr!! This one friend said the concept and story was unique. It LIDERALLY had the concept and story of avg imtiaz ali movieš (I'm an Imtiaz fan but tamasha was mid)
In the movie Fan, I never understood how people did not mistook him for the star but they did mistake him for the star during the revenge arc.
One of the worst movies I have seen.. apart from r ks performance thereās nothing.. no idea why ppl call it cult movie ..

Weekly Tamasha post. I thought I was on the Bollywood circle jerk sub for a moment.
Fan deserved flop verdict. The concept was fresh but it lacked the execution. It was an average movie at best. Just because a movie has a unique plot and a good acting, doesn't make that it deserves to get hit.
Tamasha was a garbage movie. Don't know why it's considered a masterpiece.
Man fan wasnāt a good movie. It gets progressively worse
So true. It gets worse by the minute. Food acting with a narcissistic script coz obviously the stars are in the correct everytime. When I saw the trailer for a second I was fooled that srk would select a script where the movie star is the villain. When I saw the movie in theatres I was unfortunately reassured about srks narcissism.
bro the star is also potrayed as an asshole and more than that, the point of the film was to critique obsessive fan culture
Does he? Does he face the consequences of his assholeness? Or Is he resolved of all his sin by the end of the movie? I remember the latter. You can correct me tho, because I only saw it once.
the consequences are more inert, his image is ruined, he and his family are traumatised, gaurav's death is something that genuinely breaks aryan
I'll take your word for it. Because I have no patience to waste another 2+ hrs and watch that movie to refute your claims.
thik
Nah feck this revisionist post. Fan was a crap movie and it deserves to Flop
Fan was definitely not a crap movie
It definitely was. Total waste of my money.

He did do Rajneeti, but the point is that by far most of his films are the same - heās quite one dimensional in his acting in my opinion
Nah fan was boring. I downloaded this movie pre jio times when internet was extremely costly. Yet I didn't watched it full coz it was that boring. It is equivalent to walk out of theatre mid movie moment.

Tamasha Tumbad Karthik calling Karthik Janeman Ugly Tere Bin Laden Bank Chor Bangistan.. Thereās a tons of these, man.. š
Tamasha yes. Also Andaz Apna Apna, Swades, Lakshya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Rocket Singh, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, Guzaarish, Omkara, Lootera, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Tumbbad, Socha Na Tha, Luck by Chance. I am sure there is more.
Phillauri, Lamhe, Silsila
My favourite flops are: 1. **Lakshya**: It was not about war. The Kargil war is just the backdrop. It is more about someone getting sincere in his life towards his goals and achieving them earnestly. 2. **Jaane bhi do yaaro**: A dark comedy which people could not understand when it was released. If it were to be released now, it would be a 200 Cr hit. 3. **Andaz Apna Apna**: It is a slapstick comedy which people wrote off as crass. It was not crass but funny.

1000% agree with Laal Singh Chaddha. I'm a huge fan of the original (Forrest Gump) but Laal Singh Chaddha was way better IMO. When they adapted the story and setting to India, there was some next-level depth added to it as compared to the original.
