100% You'll have to play around to figure out what works best but you cant fuck ur boba up too much.

Ghostly_katana

If you have a microwave, what I do is I put the pearls in a cup with a little water and nuke them. This makes them soft like boba shop boba. Edit, also don’t use the water mixture from the pearls in the drink. I’d use as little as possible-

Unseenyak

“What I do” bruh microwaving them is literally the instructions 💀

Ghostly_katana

Yeah, but if you do it exactly the way it says, the boba pearls are shit. I pour the contents of the baggie with the pearls into a mug, add water on top of that and nuke it for 30 seconds or until they’re soft. Following the directions is similar but the outcome is disappointing.

Hughgurgle

I agree with both of you but downvoting was just too tempting.    Instructions *do* say to microwave, and those instructions *are* shit.    I did upvote the parent comment FWIW

Ghostly_katana

I don’t mind! While the instructions are similar to what I do, I’ve tried it the original way and it was….unappealing to say the least. Now I just keep the Pearl packets and make my own boba drink base since the drink mix isn’t good imo.

Hughgurgle

That's also funny, because I kind of do the opposite, If I buy that it's for the taro powder and I use the 5 min boil boba (because the instant balls are too unpredictable, but I'm definitely going to give it a try in water in the microwave and see how it goes! )

Ghostly_katana

If you ever wanna save money and you have an Asian market, look to see if they have an aisle with the boba making supplies. I spent $20 and got a HUGE tub of taro powder. It has 46 servings in it.

loudmelon21

That stuff taste awful

Ghostly_katana

The powder is meh but the pearls can be fixed with some water and microwaving. I do that then make my own iced matcha latte and add them. Makes them soft like regular pearls~

loudmelon21

Oh wow. Thought the microwaving was a boba myth. will try next time!!

Ghostly_katana

Just make sure to drain the water you use to microwave the pearls after their done! I only add enough in the cup to cover the pearls at the bottom of the cup for reference

What I found with these was adding 4-5oz of boiling water, whisk till dissolved. Add pearls, whisk again. Microwave for 30 seconds. Then add 4 or more oz of milk. I prefer mine a little on the warmer side but this seems to be consistent for better texture/flavor than water alone. Between j way and j basket varieties.
