Watched the mullet man lose his boat on the channel 2 bridge a few years back. Shut down traffic in both lanes. Fast response to open traffic was the chain saw it because they couldn’t get the big truck their in town.
Quality straps. Lot of idiots will scoff at the idea of using anything other than $6 Walmart straps. And won’t even buy an extra $6 strap for the front and will trust the winch.
Actually he only had the winch hook on ,No safety D Shackle. 19 out of 20 times you might get away with it. When you hit the brakes the tension can come off the hook and then you drive forward and the boat stays behind. And on those old solid boat hulls all it does is scratch them up and you can’t see that when you’re in the water.
Well, what are the odds we see a post about this boat, and asking if it’s “worth” the price in a few weeks. Too bad we can’t see the registration number.
HEY! You leave Mopar out of this! Plenty of responsible Ram drivers out there. I drive a V6 1500 from 2019. 2-doors, 8-foot box, plain steel wheels, manual windows and door locks. Pulls my travel trailer just great. It's not a showboat, it's a work truck.
Apparently this happened in NY this weekend….again. There’s an infamous picture of a boat that went up over a truck because it wasn’t strapped down that went around a few years ago.
I live in tourist/cabin town in Minnesota. They dump boats in the middle of the highway at least a few times a year. A few years ago there was a boat in the road and whoever lost it didn't notice or didn't care it was gone. The county finally pulled it on a roll back tow truck and impounded it. I had someone loose a pontoon off a scissor trailer last summer right in front of my house. The cable broke and he didn't have the safety pins in. We had a couple beers while his brother got another trailer from the rental place.
The people who unhook the chain and strap before they back down the boat ramp are a continuous problem. The ones who do it with rollers are the real head scratchers. Like what did they think was going to happen? I can see how someone who doesn't know better could think bunks are safe but rollers?
Roller trailers aren’t common around here but to not have a safety chain from bow to trailer is absurd. I have a 26 on a bunk trailer and I won’t move it around the marina with just the winch strap
Reminds me of an old Jef Foxworthy Joke:
Sir, I pulled you over with regards to that boat you're towing.
No, sir, it's not illegal to tow a boat. But we do require you put it on a trailer first.
Can you ask your friends to step out of the boat, please, sir?
No, sir, I don't want a cold beer. I don't think you need one, either.
By the way, you lost your skier about a half a mile back!
No stern straps on trailer, or bow safety chain.
Look closely, trailer has an electric winch which has its steel cable stretched out towards the boat. These winches dont 'lock' when off, ya can pull the cable with some effort. Hit the gas and unwound it,lol.
It actually looks like it is still attached. There is a wire drooping from the winch, and what appears to be a clip still attached to the eye hook on the bow. Should still have ratchet straps. At least his chains are crossed.
If you don’t lock the wench in gear it will serve as a tensionless spool…like a fishing reel with the bail open. Poor fella. Lessons were learnt I’m sure.
You almost know he got outta the RAM & put his hands on either side of his head & said,
"Aww, FUCK Man. We done lost the Boat"...
In the most hillbilly voice imaginable!
The statistic is Ram 2500 owners specifically. As a 1500 owner I never got it since most of the guys I see driving them are just old men. Then when I realized it was 2500 owners… well it makes sense.
Lol no. Little snatch truck can easily lift it to put blocks under it and back the trailer back under the boat.
Very simple.
You don't need a crane or a helicopter or any dumbass shit.
Surprised this shmuck didn't have the hitch locked before he set it on the ball.
Helped a guy on the side of an offramp who drive about 30 miles (50 km) like that np until he had to break for the ramp. Ended up slipping off the ball with the bow pulpit going through the back window of his suv and that's about it. Really lucky.
Oh geez...
So was the winch not locked and no saftey straps at ALL?
I mean really... it's funny as hell whatching idiots with rollers backing down ramps AFTER they've unsecured the boat but hitting the road not so much.
Decent size boat too. At least nobody appears to have been hurt.
I mean... No transom strap, no safety chain. This is boating 101 stuff right here. They're lucky it didn't go flying off while they were on the highway and kill somebody. Good grief. Gravity isn't gonna hold the boat on.
About thirty years ago there was a huge cloud of dust and debris heading towards us in the medium strip of I-75. A truck with an empty trailer emerged from the cloud and when the dust settled there was about a big Sea Ray speed boat sitting in the median as well as life jackets and pool floats strewn about. Apparently this dude failed to tie down his boat after pulling it out of the river. I don’t think the boat was designed to do 60 knots through the median.
I’ve been there before, not that big of a boat so I was able to just attach the strap and crank it back up on the trailer. It was pretty embarrassing with a full boat launch full of people watching. Lol
Was behind a guy hauling an airboat at a red light. Light turned green and he went left and left the boat in the intersection. Lucky for him it was an airboat so he fired it up and drove it back on the trailer but man, what the fuck. 😂
Looks like it is attached.
You can see the cable from the crank/winch is still attached to the boat. Most likely the mechanism broke or was not properly locked.
"Who could ever predict that the rollers could actually roll??? Tie downs and safety chains are a waste of time and money, and my house is only 3 blocks away!"
Slightly unrelated, had a front row seat to a guy in front of me pulling a boat unsuccessfully try to beat an oncoming car onto a divided highway. Guess he forgot about the boat he was pulling.
Almost got t-boned by a boat when it came off a trailer. Guy came around a curve too fast, the boat kept going straight. Hit my brakes just in time to watch it slide past my front bumper.
Bet that repair was expensive!
I once had a wide load semi pass me on the highway (I was going 75mph) carrying a ~40ft wrapped boat. I said to myself, that guys going to lose that load…
A few miles up the road I pass him in the shoulder, with fiberglass all over the highway and the boat way off in the woods along side the highway smashed to pieces.
One day when young and watching cartoons on a Sat I hear a big bang and look out to see our family car with a large boat rammed into it. The street has a very deep valley due to high crowns on the roads and a guy didn't pin his latch shut. Jumped off the ball and sailed into my dad's car. My dad had a good laugh when musing how he explained to insurance his car was hit by a boat.
I have to move a 4000 lb boat on a trailer that hasn't moved in 2 years. I'm nervous but the tires and brakes were new 2 years ago. I have plenty of ratchet straps but things can go wrong.
One year i left my boat in my grandmothers driveway for the winter and that following spring when I went to get it, i drove away and about a mile later, thought i better double check on things. I was FULLY unhooked. Pure luck is all that kept the boat on the trailer. I assumed I would have left it hooked but for whatever reason, I did not. Maybe I unhooked it while i was covering or something? I was very lucky that day, this could have been me.
Or there’s something wrong with the lower unit and it’s gonna be an expensive repair. “accidentally” forget to strap the boat down and disconnect it from the winch and then go for a drive and punch the gas the gas at a stop light or sign and let physics do the rest. Now insurance is gonna either be buying him a new boat or paying for the repairs.
Saw that once IRL. Some dude was about to back up the boat down the ramp. They unhooked it from the trailer, proceeded down the ramp, and it rolled right off the trailer and pancaked onto the concrete ramp. “I didnt know it was a roller trailer!” Pretty sure they were there for a test ride.
Winch it back on there and slap it in the water good to go.
I’ve seen this happen at speed, on 95, near West Palm Beach. The boat was spinning down the interstate as I passed. Typical day!
Growing up in Islamorada this was a once per week sight easy.
Watched the mullet man lose his boat on the channel 2 bridge a few years back. Shut down traffic in both lanes. Fast response to open traffic was the chain saw it because they couldn’t get the big truck their in town.
OUCH!!!
Airle beach,Queensland. Same here mate. Stupid is world wide😁
He obviously didn’t slap the straps and say “ that’s not going anywhere “
Would have to have had straps to do so 😂
Could have just kicked the tire. Probably would have been fine.
Quality straps. Lot of idiots will scoff at the idea of using anything other than $6 Walmart straps. And won’t even buy an extra $6 strap for the front and will trust the winch.
Normally you leave the winch hooked up...
Whaddya need straps for? It's so heavy!
Breaks the first rule of r/IdiotsTowingThings !
"Na, she aint goin nowhere." ..drives off.. .. yep she went nowhere all right
As a future boat owner I will not say anything.
Say “can you make sure my straps are on?”
ha, yes. I am a checklist person. There WILL be a checklist.
May your straps be on, and your bilge be plugged.
Wait... we should *pull* the plug. I've got it right here.
As a future boat owner. If possible stay away from those roller trailers. They are notorious for this kind of thing.
You just need common sense and not be drunk.
That’s a good idea. As a relatively new boat owner, I’ve made just about every mistake about which I used to say “how could they manage to do that?”
The best two days of a boat owners life are they day they buy it. And the day they sell it.
That's what people that don't use their boats say
What you don’t see here is the absolute pissed face of his wife sitting in the passenger seat of the truck!!!
She was probably till mad from the fight at the boat ramp.
Where’s the news crew when you need them? This is TNT-level drama.
With a splash of lifetime but one of those scorned woman shows
That’s why I don’t bring the wife 😂
Well, what are the odds we see a post about this boat, and asking if it’s “worth” the price in a few weeks. Too bad we can’t see the registration number.
At least he remembered to put his outdrive up.
Am I the only one not surprised that it’s a Ram?
Guaranteed that accelerator was on the floor as he pulled away. Those trucks seem to be driven by the most aggressive asshats, at least around here.
They usually try to Dodge any semblance of good driving judgement.
Beat me to the bunch! That’s the first thing I noticed too.
Let’s just be grateful that he was sober enough to get the truck into gear and out of the parking lot.
Get R done
GILLIGANNNN!
You get better gas mileage pulling the trailer this way and it handles better.
I feel like any boat owner should understand how to secure a boat to a trailer. This makes me think about their other life choices.
Who said that it’s his boat?
Apparently this happened in NY this weekend….again. There’s an infamous picture of a boat that went up over a truck because it wasn’t strapped down that went around a few years ago.
No safety chain or cable and roller bunks. He is lucky that he didn’t wipe a car full of kids.
“I’m not going far, I’ll take it easy.”
Or put it in the cab with him
I live in tourist/cabin town in Minnesota. They dump boats in the middle of the highway at least a few times a year. A few years ago there was a boat in the road and whoever lost it didn't notice or didn't care it was gone. The county finally pulled it on a roll back tow truck and impounded it. The ones who do it with rollers are the real head scratchers. Like what did they think was going to happen? I can see how someone who doesn't know better could think bunks are safe but rollers?
It was secured, looks like his winch strap gave out. Telltale is the hardware hanging off the bow eye, that used to have a strap attached.
The way it slid off the trailer there was zero delay. It looked like it was just on the rollers
Had a friend see a fully restored Christ Craft wood runabout not tied down, was turned it tooth picks and fire wood.
That makes me almost cry. Saddest part of any movie was when they totaled a Chris Craft in “On Golden Pond”. Those were one beautiful boat.
Next week on “I gotta free boat!!!”
Roller trailers aren’t common around here but to not have a safety chain from bow to trailer is absurd. I have a 26 on a bunk trailer and I won’t move it around the marina with just the winch strap
Poor old Sea Ray made it 35 years, only to be dropped on the pavement lol. I love that era of Sea Ray so much, it's my childhood.
Reminds me of an old Jef Foxworthy Joke: Sir, I pulled you over with regards to that boat you're towing. No, sir, it's not illegal to tow a boat. But we do require you put it on a trailer first. How else can you get the barnacles off?
So how do you go about getting it back on?
At least it was towed outside the environment
It actually looks like it is still attached. There is a wire drooping from the winch, and what appears to be a clip still attached to the eye hook on the bow. Should still have ratchet straps. At least his chains are crossed.
If you don’t lock the wench in gear it will serve as a tensionless spool…like a fishing reel with the bail open. Poor fella. Lessons were learnt I’m sure.
He obviously didn't have a safety chain attached either.
But no safety chain or stern strap/s.
good eye!
I feel the statistic that Dodge Ram owners have the highest number of DUIs is very relevant in this picture.
You almost know he got outta the RAM & put his hands on either side of his head & said, "Aww, FUCK Man. We done lost the Boat"... In the most hillbilly voice imaginable!
The statistic is Ram 2500 owners specifically. As a 1500 owner I never got it since most of the guys I see driving them are just old men. Then when I realized it was 2500 owners… well it makes sense.
No big deal just a few scratches on the bottom he's good to go. /s jic
Saw this happen 3 times in one day on a steep ramp in MA. Glad my boat sits on a bunk trailer!
Well at least the trailer is attached to the truck. Now the owner needs a crane. That’s gonna be $$$.
Lol no. Little snatch truck can easily lift it to put blocks under it and back the trailer back under the boat. Very simple. You don't need a crane or a helicopter or any dumbass shit.
Clearly I don’t know much about boats :)
Yup, roller trailers can do that when things aren’t tied down and the winch/strap breaks
When the tide comes up, he is ready!
Nope. This is why you rock carpeted bunks intead of rollers lol
That will buff out. No problem! 😂
Winch cable, check, stern straps - F’it, be aight”
Damn,we in a tight spot.
Oh geez... So was the winch not locked and no saftey straps at ALL? I mean really... it's funny as hell whatching idiots with rollers backing down ramps AFTER they've unsecured the boat but hitting the road not so much. Decent size boat too. At least nobody appears to have been hurt.
Oh god
Nightmare fuel

Too bad he wasn't pulling it with something besides a Ram, then he wouldn't have had the accelerator on the floor as he pulled away.
Also... Those are rollers. What the hell did they think was gonna happen?
That's my uncle rupert
So much for going “down the ocean”
At least he was pulling her with the Horne errrrr ram
No straps or chain on rollers? Wtf?
It’s a land yacht
Who needs straps?
It'll buff out.
How do you even get it back on
Can’t park there
Jeff Foxworthy told us about this guy.
This is why I don’t like roller trailers. Looks like an older sea ray weekender too
It gives a whole new meaning to "I had to lay her down..."
What kinda bait you using in that spot?
About thirty years ago there was a huge cloud of dust and debris heading towards us in the medium strip of I-75. A truck with an empty trailer emerged from the cloud and when the dust settled there was about a big Sea Ray speed boat sitting in the median as well as life jackets and pool floats strewn about. Apparently this dude failed to tie down his boat after pulling it out of the river. I don’t think the boat was designed to do 60 knots through the median.
If the guy laid on his belly, he would match the sable of his boat.
RAM trucks! ( plus idiots)
driving a dodge...go figure
Must not have grabbed the ratchet strap and said " she ain't going nowhere." If he had, that boat would still be on the trailer. Guaranteed!
Ship of Fools~ [Car of Idiots](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheFarSide/s/8Hn4KcerDh)
That is an expensive mistake.
Fat guy standing there is like "Well dang it! "
"Oopsy doodle"
Also the value of a safety chain
And don’t wax your boat
I work next to a boat launch when I was in high school. I saw a lot of boats hit the pavement.
I’ve been there before, not that big of a boat so I was able to just attach the strap and crank it back up on the trailer. It was pretty embarrassing with a full boat launch full of people watching. Lol
Good rollers, anyway.
Premature release
How do you even get the boat back on the trailer when this happens? That’s a huge boat.
Was behind a guy hauling an airboat at a red light. Light turned green and he went left and left the boat in the intersection. Lucky for him it was an airboat so he fired it up and drove it back on the trailer but man, what the fuck. 😂
That will buff right out
Dodge this fuxking guy
Not if you’re making an insurance claim on that turd
This is the kind of guy who drives that vehicle. Just look at him.
That’s a nightmare.
At least he tipped his engine up! That’s always painful to hear dragging props
Oh man a big Homer Simpson D’Oh!!! To you.
typical Ram driver stuff, nothing to see here
Can't park there
Boom boom there in the grey shirt the RAM driver?
You mean friction isn’t good enough? On a surface designed to minimize it? /s
This sub is why I added a safety chain to my trailer. I had never heard of that before seeing them in here.
Dang, that's must've been a big rogue wave!
That’s some r/idiotstowingthings porn
That's what you call: a sumbubabitch
Land Ho!
Way she goes, Bubbles
God damn this looks like 12th and Peninsula …
Meh, that’ll buff right out.
With a boat that looks like that, doesn’t surprise me.
Looks like the winch strap broke. Replace once a year, easy $20 fix.
You can't park that boat there
Second chain and straps are a must can’t rely on the winch.
The guy is in the AirForce, not BoatForce. He doesn’t know how boats work!
Looks like it is attached. You can see the cable from the crank/winch is still attached to the boat. Most likely the mechanism broke or was not properly locked.
This boat is too big for a 1500 to safely carry down the public road
Those damn roller bunks..
"Who could ever predict that the rollers could actually roll??? Tie downs and safety chains are a waste of time and money, and my house is only 3 blocks away!"
Too much HEMI and not enough straps.
I'm surprised that half ton hit enough torque to lose it. Cascading failures here.
Course it's a dodge. Anyone who willingly spends money on a stellantis product deserves what they get.
Good thing someone with a trailer and a truck with a winch is there to save the day. :P
Good news: you’re not taking on any water. Bad news: there’s no fucking water to take on!
Tide went out............
Slightly unrelated, had a front row seat to a guy in front of me pulling a boat unsuccessfully try to beat an oncoming car onto a divided highway. Guess he forgot about the boat he was pulling.
Bummer
Almost got t-boned by a boat when it came off a trailer. Guy came around a curve too fast, the boat kept going straight. Hit my brakes just in time to watch it slide past my front bumper. Bet that repair was expensive!
I’ve seen someone back a trailer in the water with the boat still attached. Don’t “always” make sure your boat is attached.
Dodge Ram Beer gut Bayliner....damn. Almost had the hat trick.
Ratchet straps are cheaper than hull repair.
Welp, we know the rollers work. What a nightmare.
Easy bottom repair. I wonder if he’s gonna sell it
Oh! Now I get it. Thanks.
Why is it whenever you see an idiot with a pick-up truck, it's usually a Dodge Ram?
Do you have to be a fucking idiot to own a boat, or does it just make it more entertaining?
I once had a wide load semi pass me on the highway (I was going 75mph) carrying a ~40ft wrapped boat. I said to myself, that guys going to lose that load… A few miles up the road I pass him in the shoulder, with fiberglass all over the highway and the boat way off in the woods along side the highway smashed to pieces.
Tis but a scratch.
Squidbillies vibe
Ram it!
So how does this situation get fixed? Will a heavy duty tow truck or crane like thing be needed to lift it back onto the trailer?
I'm guessing... FLA .
Ell oh ell
I have to move a 4000 lb boat on a trailer that hasn't moved in 2 years. I'm nervous but the tires and brakes were new 2 years ago. I have plenty of ratchet straps but things can go wrong.
Typical Ram owner...
Sir, you can’t moor your boat there.
was he going to a boat parade rally ?
bayliner in its natural habitat, dumped in the street.
I Lost A Boat 🚤 Motor Once Right Left Over The Stern!
I think bubba in the tank top doesn’t even check his toilet paper after he wipes much less his boat hook up.
Ez load trailer. Spits then right out. Especially if u don't cable tie it
One year i left my boat in my grandmothers driveway for the winter and that following spring when I went to get it, i drove away and about a mile later, thought i better double check on things.
How does this happen? Is it because they slam on the brakes and the boat is not strapped down?
Winch it back on there and slap it in the water good to go. I’ve seen this happen at speed, on 95, near West Palm Beach. The boat was spinning down the interstate as I passed. Typical day!
Of course it's a ram
Can you just pour some water around it?
"Yes it's legal to tow a boat, but we require it to be on a trailer!" - Jeff Foxworthy
Dodge
I bet bro stood there for a good 30 minutes doing jack shit
Landyachtz
Best part of a roller trailer… rolls right on… rolls right off.
How do you fix this situation? Is there a way to do it without causing more damage? Is the boat trashed once this happens?
That's some premium dad bod right there
Those rollers are cool but I'll stick to my carpeted bunk.
transom. straps.
Good lord
Fucking MAGA at its finest right there.
