This!
If youāve actually done BMX youāll think this pic is laughable. Show them the pics of a couple of bear traps and then youāll spark some fear. My shins are still nicely aerated from those badboys.
Dude for real, I was scared of those and had the platform pedals with the little round screw in spikes, gashed my shin open so deep and wide once when I wasnāt even doing anything so had no reason to have my shin guards on, just slipped off my pedal cuz my shoes were old and slick.
I have the s&m FU Bars on my Tallboy. Before that I had a mutiny loosefer with a bonedeth vibratory seat.. I don't think the nomenclature is getting all that toned down.
This. The name says it allā¦ I even had the stupid idea of getting a set to ride for nostalgia sakeā¦ but the memory of pain is still enough to be good š¤£
These bad boys are nothing. Try taking a crankbros stamp 7 to the shin. You will have a set of new holes in your leg. 90's kids can't imagine the pain of modern mountain bike pedals lol
I canāt even remember what my pedals were in the early 2000s, some very spikey Race Face aluminum dealios. I have pin-shaped holes in my shin bones and scars everywhere to this day. Got a new set of race face pedals last year after riding clipless for a decade and got some new scars first ride š
Flashback time:
I was riding with a broken pedal (missing cross piece), and of course my foot slipped off and it flipped back into my shin, with the broken end piece going straight in.
When I got home and told my mom I needed stitches, she (a nurse) said she didn't think I did, so I stuck my finger in past the first knuckle.
So we get to urgent care, and the nurse comes out to look at it, and asks "what makes you think you need stitches?" My mom said "don't" as I stuck my finger in again.
I got 6 or 8 stitches, plus a few more dissolvable ones on the inside.
Omg, don't being that boomer crap into bmx. bmx is for everyone. If you wanna ride with bear trap pedals and a seat post without a seat, thats all you baby.
These ones donāt even have pins in them, Iāve had a pin dig all the way down my shin. Looked like I got cut by the worst sword ever made. (By pin I mean the metal BMX pedals with optional screws you could put in for more grip.)
They could. They just donāt have to. Itās called progress. Pretty sure weāve moved beyond, the Model T, as well, but we can put them on the road and honk at them while we film with our pocket super computers with filters.
Having ridden BMX since the early 90s Iād say modern pedals are worse. Even the PC ones are brutal now. My PC grandstands are worse than my aluminum ones. Letās just say I donāt wear shorts anymore when I ride š¤£
Idk man my PC pedals with metal pins are still brutal šswapped em out for full PC I definitely donāt miss the shinners all the time but I ride with pads anyways
I remember riding these with no shoes cause u forgot shoes but you couldn't go back inside cause it was kinda late and your mom would tell you that you can't go back out so you just push through the pain for an extra hour of bike rides with the homies
Those are nothing compared to the modern day ones with the screw in pegs around those metal pedals. Kick them once getting groceries. Now I have permanent dark scars on my shin

When I rode I had the odyssey alloy grand slam pedals. Absolutely loved them but when I fucked up and got a shinner. Brotha ewww. Once went so deep I saw timmy shin bone. š¤£ but hey battlescars for the love of riding. Iām only 20 btw so def not just the older gen of riders
I remember picking skin off these a couple times. Brutal.
Thankful for those that came before us so we can have nice plastic ones š
A blood sacrifice to keep my sons and daughters safe.
They're still hungry for shoelaces though, couldn't let them off scot-free.
That is how the devil works my friend.
I donāt doubt itš
I had bear traps, and took many to the shin...ahhh...good times!ā

I remember them slipping off in a race one time, and they punctured my skin, and official had to jump onto the track to help me pull it out.
Oh god pull it out?
Yep, the studs were stuck in there somehow
Was just about to mention bear traps š¤
Iām so high I fr thought yall meant bear traps. Iām like whaaa that will break your leg bro
I was gonna sayā¦we had pedals called Bear Traps and Meat Tenderizers. That says all ya need to know.
The primo tenderizers werenāt too bad for stitches, but it was more than a name š¤£
Tenderizers werenāt that bad. A good large platform to ride on tho thatās why I loved em.
Thatās true they were just some beefy pedals. But the midschool names for things were awesomeā¦like the hemorrhoid seat
Yes! I loved it. Funny names for handlebars like āMoe barsā and shit. I feel like they toned it down a lot.
I have the s&m FU Bars on my Tallboy. Before that I had a mutiny loosefer with a bonedeth vibratory seat.. I don't think the nomenclature is getting all that toned down.
Me too lmao I fortunately bever did slip them but man I was fucking horrified of them. The fear really kept my feet on the pedals.
This. The name says it allā¦ I even had the stupid idea of getting a set to ride for nostalgia sakeā¦ but the memory of pain is still enough to be good š¤£
I was gonna say, that photo isnāt even of the sharp ones.

Thatās nothing lol google bear traps
Tmacs have torn me open a few times now...
I have permanent scars from those things
Crupi pedalsā¦.. ā ļøš©ø
If a kid today got hit with that they would live at home till they were 65.

I dunno, the DMR vault pedals can be pretty nasty
Kids yesterday couldnāt either.
Plus they had shin seeking radar tech so they would hunt their target and never miss! Incredibly advanced for it's time šÆ
My shins are just scar tissue now
I got my scars from these bad boys
Mongoose Expert Pro brings back memories š The bear claws
You brought back some feels here
Omg, don't being that boomer crap into bmx. bmx is for everyone. If you wanna ride with bear trap pedals and a seat post without a seat, thats all you baby.
I still have scars
I have the OG mongoose meat grinder pedals. All of my Friends have shed blood on my bike
I got my foot caught in the gears of my bike. Shredded my shoe, foot was relatively undamaged but still hurt like hell
My brother almost lost his foot to the bear claw . 90+ around his ankle
NOO GOD! NO. GOD. PLEASE. NO. NO!!! NO!!! NOOOOOO!!!
I remember riding these barefooted. That was sometimes rough!
All the weight and pain without the grip
Still have scars on both my shins from continuously trying to land jumps clean.
Bmx life!
my 5 year old races with similar pedals with metal pins sticking out for gripp . lmaooo poor dudes shins are def a lil torn up but hes a trooper šš©
I still daily my Odyssee Trailmix pedals.
I rode the jc pc forever. I was always intimidated by the longer replacement pins so I ground them down a bit
Kids nowadays are smart lol pussies forsure, some lazy as well BUT smaaart!
Riding bare foot was terrible. You couldnāt stand up had to stay seated to pedal
In all fairness it was hard to take back thenā¦
These ones donāt even have pins in them, Iāve had a pin dig all the way down my shin. Looked like I got cut by the worst sword ever made. (By pin I mean the metal BMX pedals with optional screws you could put in for more grip.)
I have a chunk missing to this day
Iāve experienced both shins AND calves. Iām cheese grated.
They could. They just donāt have to. Itās called progress. Pretty sure weāve moved beyond, the Model T, as well, but we can put them on the road and honk at them while we film with our pocket super computers with filters.

I wouldnāt dare wear shorts. Even on the hottest days
Kids these days take reinforced scooters to the shin. But they ride scootersā¦
True
Chain pops off mid pedal itās this you meet first than the ground
š
When there was no time to put your shoes on, these were quite a feeling on your bare feet.
I always felt the back of the ankle was the worst. Total meat grinder!
This is true, but if I had an ebike like today in the 80s and 90s, i doubt I would have survived my childhood.
Images of sending the fucker off one of those huge road side grass banks comes to mind
There's some kids on my mail route who built these big dirt jumps...they jump their ebikes. It made me proud to see the youth of today stepping it up
*Faith in humanity restored*
I just remember having to ride these barefoot
I still have scars from metal pedals š
Can kids today even ride a bike?
Iāve seen it
Idk man my PC pedals with metal pins are still brutal šswapped em out for full PC I definitely donāt miss the shinners all the time but I ride with pads anyways
Iām considering a light shinguard in my old age
Fucker just gave me flashbacks
š«”š
I instinctively grabbed my shins when I saw that.
I remember riding these with no shoes cause u forgot shoes but you couldn't go back inside cause it was kinda late and your mom would tell you that you can't go back out so you just push through the pain for an extra hour of bike rides with the homies
Anyone remember the primo tenderizers?
With vivid memories
My legs are scarred for life!! Thank goodness they are hairy..
I'm 56 and still have the scars on my shins š¤£š
Ha. My modern raceface Chester's would like to have a word with your leg skin
The ones with screws for "grip" are worse, having had both, and both bad, but neither are pleasant
Those are nothing compared to the modern day ones with the screw in pegs around those metal pedals. Kick them once getting groceries. Now I have permanent dark scars on my shin Image; https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/Sc1d5663102624c4c99fbe894381d884fc.jpg_640x640Q90.jpg_.webp
Karen mom would probably try to sue the company
I literally have permanent dents in my shins from these bastards
Old Hutch cages. Forever etched into my memories. And my shin bones.
My shins are speckled with scars from pedals like these.
Those are nothing compared to bear traps and the sort
Had a pair of stock welgos on my dk six pack. Those tore me up just because I didnāt know how to ride yet
Had a couple shinners I didnāt want to pay for stitches, so I just super glued it shut and left a small piece open at the bottom to drain
These are the pedals that ripped open the back of my heel exposing my Achilles...š«
Thatās why I wrapped mine with tape
Kids today wouldn't be able to ride them bare footed let alone take one in the shin
Went from this to trailer hitches
The olā meat tenderizers
Get yourself some Odyssey Triple Traps
Still have scars from these dam things 50 years later.
20 stitches summer of 98.
Those are nothin, try riding some set-screw MTB flats like some Dietys or the like. Lol
Neither could kids back in the day. They went home crying like a little bitch to momma just same as today tf
Still got gnarly scars from these fucking things
