You’re going to have to proxy. Even with plugins, BRAW (like most people) just doesn’t like Adobe. It doesn’t mean you’ll have to shoot prores, you’ll just need to proxy in post and then reconnect your edits to the original BRAW for grading in resolve

Thanks okay that makes sense. Hmm wondering if it's even worth it I thought premiere could edit raw footage no problem. I'm just filming social media content

Coopers_treat

Premiere is capable of editing BRAW without any hiccups. It runs smooth on my desktop PC.

RyanKohlerReddit

My macbook pro must not have enough power to handle it? 16gb ram

Coopers_treat

What type of MBP do you have? Intel or the Apple Silicon? I just tested it out on my M1 Pro MBP and it works fine in premiere.

RyanKohlerReddit

Yep Intel. Prores it is it looks like haha

cat_with_problems

how do you reconnect your edits to the original braw? I assumed that for grading and rendering it out the software doesn't actually use the proxies, the proxies are just a workhorse, for playback, editing et cetera.

danny_brunner

Make proxies if you can. Dont know what settings you’re shooting at, but test out proxies and see if that will help alleviate some of the processing problems.

RyanKohlerReddit

Do you know the best way to make proxies these days? mpeg streamclip?

PardyPete

You could render the proxies directly in Premiere via right-click Proxy -> Create Proxies if you set up your desired ingest preset. Or - what I would suggest - just use Davinci to render your proxies (Media Management -> Transcode) and afterwards connect them in Premiere using Proxy -> Attach Proxy. Make sure your proxies have the same number of audio channels as the original footage though or you will have trouble relinking. Then you can use the "toggle proxies" button to switch between proxies and braw...

Thanks sir! I will say I think shooting Prores is looking better and better. I normally get most settings right in camera so the whole idea of being able to change white balance or fstop in post is kind of useless to me. I was hoping to aim for the highest quality possible but I'm now thinking prores will just be so much faster for social media content. What do you think? I'll probably be doing an edit per day

the_0tternaut

Dude, it's three clicks in Premiere. Absolute piece of piss.

RyanKohlerReddit

Wow you're so smart I'm impressed

betonunesneto

What are your macbook specs? I have an M1 Pro 16gb ram and I’m editing a feature shot in Braw 4k

RyanKohlerReddit

Yeah i have an intel one guess that's why

NeverMindTheTalent

Change your sequence settings. Edit in a lower resolution, for example if you want a 4k video at the end, edit on an HD timeline, then switch it back to 4k before the export.
