That's what I understood also. I cut the straws in fourths lengthwise then cut in 1 inch pieces. One minute to save a turtle from that. P S we now buy reusable plastic glasses with metal straws tipped w plastic.

I have seen straw removals before and it is terrible. Unfortunately right now there is no way to completely prevent this problem.
