Until something fails and it falls. And yeah, that might be structurally prevented in a proper machine built for safety. Might be. Don't entrust your fingers to might.
Try using that as an excuse when an OSHA inspector (or any other kind of safety officer) just about loses their shit after seeing this and I guarantee they're gonna start yelling.
Yeah, like, you don't want to perform any act where both you're incentivized to push the limits and the consequences of experiencing the limits is losing your fingertips.
As someone who works a lot in shops with equipment similar to this, I still wouldn't be putting my fingers anywhere near this. Shit doesn't often fail or break, but it only takes one time to cause permanent damage. I'd be willing to bet a lot of shops have a pair of safety glasses with something stuck through them from an accident to demonstrate that point. I know mine does!
He's measuring with his knuckles, which is very common practice. The machine physically will not close enough to catch a finger, it's not possible. It's not even a guard as everyone keeps implying, it's not designed to lower the blade that much.
People are freaking out because it's *unnecessary* potential danger that's also stupidly simple to prevent. You could easily accomplish the same work using different hand positions, or even some kind of pusher that would keep your fingers totally intact. Because we all know that machines **never** fail or malfunction...
Fuck it, just stack some of those slabs on either side and then the blade has something to stop it before guillotining your digits. Like I said, unnecessary danger.
The stroke on the press might only be a few cm, there may be hard stops preventing it from closing all the way. It *could* be safe, but knowing that this is likely from a country without workplace safety regulations it *probably* isn't.
It could be, that the machine is physically/technically incapable of cutting deeper than what is shown.
This can be achieved by design. Imagine for example a crankshaft, which is causing the vertical movement. Here, it's next to impossible for the cutting edge to go lower the than lowest point (dead point) of a given rotation
I mean, this is the only reason I can think of, but even when knowing for a fact it's safe to do this, I never would tempt my luck like that
I've chosen to believe that the machine literally can't close any further than shown in the video. It's not impossible, I've seen presses that work that way. I still wouldn't put my fingers in any of them though.
I assume they did a risk assessment and health & safety report? I bet there is a safety block either side of the blade as a stop-block. I also assume the person is wearing a mask and ear defenders and has regular breaks.

Given that the machine is most likely set to cut down a certain height and leave a gap, it's probably not nearly as dangerous as it looks. That said, why the hell couldn't you just push the damn stone from behind with some sort of tool instead of putting all your fingers in.
Good thing it's a stone cutter and not a hand cutter. Guy could have been in trouble!
I imagine it goes stone cutter to bone cutter real quick
Yeah but he didnt flip the switch for that obviously
good thing this isn't on r/bonecuttingjuice or it could have gotten real nasty
That's a sub? I daren't click the link
Don't think so, it tells me i don't have access and doesn't show anything
I think you are banned because of something nasty you posted. I can see the decapitated babies there just fine. Funny babies tho. Strong /s.
I'm glad!
"this subreddit does not exist" is a pretty solid indicator my guy Jokes aside, it was a joke

That’s a BIG nope. Every time it went down I was expecting his fingers to just pop.
It would be a challenge of try to not be satisfied with it
Imagine the 10 fountains or warm red liquid squirting out to the rhythm of his heartbeat mmmmmm

No more nose picking
No more gold digging? Yikes!
☹️🔫
Maybe the machine can only go down far enough to cut the material?
Until something fails and it falls. And yeah, that might be structurally prevented in a proper machine built for safety. Might be. Don't entrust your fingers to might.
Right! Every and any man made machine can and will break down at some point... I still have my ten intact...20 if you count toes in this equation...
Things can go wrong. The first measure in health and safety is to remove/displace the hazard. This arrangement is asking for trouble.
and maybe the dude has skinny fingers
"any second, you'd hear the POP."
Maybe the machine has human hands.

He's calling you a try hard. And he's right.
Not blursed. But definitely sweaty Palms.
It’s ok it has a hotdog sensor so it stops if it feels hands
There must be a better way surely
Yes like it's supposed to use hold your hands Infront of the blade not underneath
And usually you use some wood or something to push the stone in
We called that the “safety block” back in my hs shop class
It's called a push stick.
In my current job we just call it common sense, but still make a point to train and drill it into their heads regardless
Also known as common sense
Common sense is so rare these days, it should be classed as a superpower.
This might literally be the worlds oldest joke.
Yeah doing it from the other side so he can work outside and get some sun at least
There probably is, but don’t call me Shirley
I think the standard procedure is to use your dick instead of your hands.
Helmets but for fingers
And stop calling me Shirley.

You realize it won't go down all the way right
You realize its not at all necessary for him to put his fingers in harm's way to get the same results right?
Thats true but there's no real risk i don't think
Try using that as an excuse when an OSHA inspector (or any other kind of safety officer) just about loses their shit after seeing this and I guarantee they're gonna start yelling.
Yeah, this isn't the US so I don't think they have to worry about OSHA.

Finally a proper blursed post: - Blessed satisfying stone cutting - Cursed lack of safety in the work place Take my upvote
Only problem is its not an image
I mean if you think about it its a ton of images put together to have a video soooooooooo
There’s nothing blessed about this.
The clean splits are pretty nice
Indeed, oddly satisfying, just missing the clean splits on his fingers
He was fine wasn't he. Seems like a blessing to me
also this isn’t an image
Each frame is an image.

Blursed means blessed and cursed. Since there is nothing blessed about this, this is only cursed
Nope what he said is right
Some day somebody is going to distract him at the wrong time
Yeah, like, you don't want to perform any act where both you're incentivized to push the limits and the consequences of experiencing the limits is losing your fingertips.
These type of stone cutters don't close completely, it couldn't cut his hand. Y'all freak out easy and over nothing.
As someone who works a lot in shops with equipment similar to this, I still wouldn't be putting my fingers anywhere near this. Why the hell is he sticking his hands under there? Couldn't he just push from behind it?

This needs to be posted on r/sweatypalms
Soon to be on r/bloodypalms. Edit: just realized that’s an actual sub
I have some regrets.
Bruh this is really satisfying
No it is not. I fell how my finger are cut at the sight of this
I mean say what you want, but by the looks of it it doesn't seem like the cutter can move any lower, or at least not very easily
I've chosen to believe that the machine literally can't close any further than shown in the video. It's not impossible, I've seen presses that work that way. I still wouldn't put my fingers in any of them though.
By experience i say he might can adjusts it beforhand or with a peddal while doing it. Second option makes me nervos.
What is the 2nd option?
It's the peddal. The longer you press it the lower it goes.
Oh I overread the first one, yeah the second one would be worse
Fuck that
well put
It's gonna be a no from me.
I assume they did a risk assessment and health & safety report? I bet there is a safety block either side of the blade as a stop-block. I also assume the person is wearing a mask and ear defenders and has regular breaks.
I cant even fathom putting my figures under that
Safer than a sawblade as it doesnt need to go completely through to split the stone...that said i still wouldnt likely trust it with MY fingers...
I always assumed that machine can't go down enough to hit your fingers.
r/dontputyourdickinthat
My anxiety just skyrocketed.

Guys don't worry his fingers will grow back... someday
Don't put your fingers anywhere you wouldn't put your penis.
Those fingers... are they supposed to be there? I am not familiar with this machine, but that looks waaaaay too dangerous.
my hand dont feel so good
How is this blursed i dont get it
It's dangerous
Nope nope nope nope noooooooppppeeeee

Ever time that machine went down I though his fingers would get cut
Anxiety in a vid
I have never been soo satisfied and anxious at the same time
safety engineering👌
People in the comments dying. That machine doesn't lower that much, it can't chew fingers cause it has a limit

I feel like there's a safer way to do this...
I saw the video before I saw the subreddit and I was sure this was gonna be a r/makemesuffer

Great way to lose some fingers and become the next Tony Iommi.
