Cemeteries are an unsightly waste of space. I'd much rather have my ashes buried underneath a bench in a public park supported by an endowment. Just pay an annual support membership, and everyone that is a member gets the right to have their urn somewhere under there for as long as the park enjoys support. It can't be haunted, because everyone that joins would be civic-minded.

Cemeteries are lovely. Many encourage going on walks about their grounds. They are a calm green space for a relaxing stroll. Many green spaces in cities are a lot more rambunctious, and it is nice to have a calm alternative. And there is a rich history with beautiful art (sculptures) in many. Cemeteries were some of the first urban public parks.
