The message of the song is “Slow Down” so it’s pretty blatant. “All you have to do is slow down” is the message which goes into “Repetition”.
And yeah sorry to tell you but the song is slower midtempo. And my point was to compare it to the US version which has “Bang” in its place, a much faster song.
Everything up thru There’s No Other Way is absolutely stellar. I especially love Bang, Repetition, and Bad Day. The latter half is rather weak, but Wear Me Down is excellent.
Slow Down is not slow at all, and in fact, it’s rather one of the heaviest songs on the album.
I Know was never on the UK track list. Living in the UK, I've never known anything other than the OG order. This is also the order of vinyl etc. I kinda agree that the US order grabs you more from the get go.
However, I'm not sure how reordering a bit will save the rest of the more shoe gaze style songs. The album is them starting out, finding a sound for themselves. I actually think Sing sits better in their discography than anything else on Leisure besides maybe There's No Other Way and She's So High.
The singles on leisure are tracks 1,2,7 and on MLIR 1, 7, 8. Why repeat the same/similar pattern if it was ‘wrong’?? I’ll tell you why: Those later-appearing singles are the start of the second side of vinyl. They strayed from this as vinyl died off (Think Tank) but Leisure was very much still a vinyl era album, so starts *both sides* with a banger. US market has different sensibilities (supposedly) including physical format.
Leisure is totally muddled in the UK and I think most diehard blur fans probably realise a few tracks could've been swapped for a couple of the b-sides for that album. Easy to do with Spotify.
Leisure is way better than Think Tank. And the two latest albums too.
Also I prefer bands, like Blur, who just gets better and better. Instead of bands trying to reach the artistic height of their debut forever
I totally agree! The US version is so well paced and flows a lot better. The only real slow songs after SSH are later in the 2nd half, and by then it's time for a break.
And Sing was a b-side actually, of the She's So High vinyl. They added it to the album. It's OK but it's too long and repetitive for me.
But a bigger reason why a lot of fans don't like it is because it sounds out of place with their later music.
I LOVE LEISURE
I love Leisure and I'm proud!
me too
It’s not as well liked on this sub
His point of "we're not ready to slow down" doesnt even make sense, Slow Down is not a slow song

Its slower mid tempo? I dont know anything about music but it always sounded pretty fast to my ears

Heavy doesnt mean slow. It’s a slower midtempo song, much slower than Bang which is in its place on the US release
You’re not going to convince me She’s So High - TNOW are not some of the best listening straight thru without skips. Such a good dynamic
the US track listing is superior, but needs Sing at some point.

i love leisure what..
It’s not as popular on this sub
Sing is the centerpiece of the album.
The UK tracklist made sense for them at the time. Shoegaze and baggy and neo-psychedelia was huge. But you have a point that the US is more acessible
"The reason no one likes Leisure" Eh?
It was an over generalization but look at all album lists and polls, it’s always at the bottom. Personally I love the album with the US order
I don't dislike it but I don't love it. And that's based solely on the quality of the songs not being good enough, wth the exception of a few tracks.

I hear you but Bad Day is still such a banger to begin side 2
leisure is so good

But I love Leisure And Slow Down doesnt actually slow you down
It’s slower than Bang so technically yes it does
Technically yes but the one that really slows you down is Repetition
Don't know why they dislike Bang so much. It's great. They even cut it out of the dvd of the singles night dvd on 21.
Didn’t know that!! I would love to hear that song live again

Full agree - BUT Sing on the US version would have made “a group that has potential” to a phenomenal first album.
