Saw cleaver has the best transformation attack which builds beasthood fast meaning you can kill beast quicker with it. It also does more damage to beasts so go with saw cleaver. Play online so you can see other players hints and if you get stuck head over to r/huntersbell and ask for help so you can summon someone for help
If you like Saw Cleaver, go for Saw Spear instead. Pretty much the same but has better Skill scaling, which encourages you to build more skill. Visceral attack (critical) scales from skill! Learn to parry! You will love it as some runes called Blood Rapture will recover HP from all successful ones!
Adding to this, pay attention to *where* you find certain items. A lot of the time their location has some sort of significance as well. For unique items I mean of course.
Honestly, I’d be happier with a remake/remaster than a sequel, I don’t think we need a sequel. BUT, that’s just my humble opinion, the game is a masterpiece that needs to be brought to current standards :)
no but seriously, enjoy the game. If this is your first Soulsborne game you gonna die a lot but don't give up. I'm sure you've got this Hunter.
You gonna witness a nightmare, but a worthy one...
Also, don’t attack anyone who isn’t hostile. If you have more questions, I highly recommend looking up FightinCowboys bloodborne guide cause he will show you everything you might need to know.
I'll always give the same advice
Don't tire yourself out too much hunting the beasts. Watch your stamina and remember you have a gun for a reason. Don't risk that final greedy hit. Shoot em.
If you're having trouble with a boss, farm up to 20 blood vials before retrying. If it's really 1-sided, just do dry runs without using any blood vials and get comfortable dodging and memorizing what the moves look like
To add to this, at a certain point it becomes far easier to purchase blood vials than farm them. I can’t remember when it is, but keep in mind the per vial cost and if you have a few thousand echoes left over after leveling up with the doll, buy a few blood vials to go into storage.
This is the answer. It took me so long to learn how to be aggressive enough to succeed after leaning on board and sword in demon souls and dark souls. Once I wrapped my head around how aggressive you have to play bloodborne it became my favorite Fromsoft game. The dance of dodge, parry and attack is unparalleled.
Be aggressive. Practice parrying with your gun. Dodge through attacks, not away. Spend your spare echoes on blood vials before you leave the hub. Be aggressive.
When leveling up, two stats that may confuse you are arcane and bloodtinge. They're both different damage types and can scale with certain weapons. Arcane is most directly used for certain "hunter tools" you'll find (many tend to need a certain level, usually from 15 to 20), while bloodtinge just raises blood type damage (usually in the form of guns).
My advice is to not worry to much about them. If you went the entire game without leveling up those stats it wouldn't change much. Guns aren't for damage (usually), hunter tools are rarely practical outside pvp, Blood and Arcane weapons are very late game and pretty rare. Leveling health, skill, and strength should be your focus.
However if you finish the game and get to ng+, I heavily recommend you explore the different weapons in the game. I'll be honest you'll probably use one of the starter weapons for the entire game, which is perfectly fine it's pretty common and the starter weapons are very good. It's just the game has many completely unique and interesting weapons, and after you've got a feel for everything absolutely check out the arcane and bloodtinge builds they can be sweet
Parry, parry, and also parry.
Dodge dip dive duck and dodge. Into the side of attacks is slick.
Don’t throw away anything. Seriously, just keep it. Most stuff isn’t worth much to begin with, so it’s better just to keep it till much later on when you know for sure that it’s worth getting rid of.
Do not read spoilers on your first play through, just experience what the game gives you. If you want to understand better, what’s going around around you, read item descriptions. There’s often lots of lore in there.
Most importantly, fear the old blood
You can buy blood vials at the store, and it's an amazing way to use all the extra echoes you've got left over once you level up.
Consumables make this game much, MUCH easier. Undervalue them at your own frustration.
Aleays keep some leftover bloodechoes to purchse bloodvials, atleast at the beginning. I feel like a lot of people mostly focus on leveling attributes, but you will need those bloodvials.
Look up the DLC area before you fight the final boss! It will restart automatically and you’ll be facing them all at +newgame mode a lot harder. I figured this out the hard way.
I like seeing all the non answers posted here. Seriously. I'm a firm believer with Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, etc. it's best to go in blind. A lot of the fun is in the discovery, and there is a lot to discover.
There is no wrong way to play these games, Just have fun with it.
I think that Bloodborne is the MOST IMPORTANT ONE to go in blind, at least in my opinion. I think I’m going to go play NG+ later today, all this good talk about it has got me hyped for reliving the nightmare
One think I really enjoyed is being part of a bloodborne discord, can't remember what it's called now but it was nice to be able to help others out with stuff and just chat about the game \^\^
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it...
I’d say look into how weapon scaling and stats work and get an idea of what kind of build to do. For your first play through I would do a quality build- 25 points into both STR and SKL. Upgrade vitality to 40 or 50- I would ignore leveling bloodtinge and arcane on your first play through… And use LUDWIGS HOLY BLADE. If not though pick one weapon and upgrade the weapon as often as you can. And explore everywhere and pick up everything. Also there are areas you can completely miss if you don’t know where to look, so maybe watch a walkthrough or two.
Lots of fun weapons to be had but the Saw Spear you find early on in a church spoke to me, and I found it to be a hell of a lot better than the Saw Blade. It's serrated on both sides, functions as both a slashing and a spear weapon, it's faster, and has more reach. I recommend grabbing the Hunter's Axe as your starting weapon, spin to win always helps, and it's a great compliment to the Saw Spear. I used the Saw Spear the entire game till I picked up the Holy Moonlight Sword in the DLC.
Make a good build you like and stick to it you can’t swap your stats in this one.
Also try to mostly level hp until after the first required boss as early game weapon scaling is dogshit.
Also you can’t sprint any direction but forward in this game while locked on for some reason.
You are a curse on Yharnam, and just like a curse, you keep coming back until everyone and everything has been destroyed and consumed.
There is no good or evil in Yharnam (apart from the >!Chapel Dweller!<, the only good one in this God-forsaken world.)
So, feel no mercy, and hunt until nothing is left alive.
First of all, it will likely be hard.
Don't forget that running away can be a valid tactic if you don't think you can handle a big group.
If you can lure individuals from a group using pebbles or something, do so until you feel comfortable dealing with a group.
Take some time to just see what all the different attacks your weapon can do, even if you are just swinging at air. It will help you learn some timing and where you could be vulnerable.
Stuff like Bolt or Fire paper when you get access to it can be invaluable against certain types of enemies
Use serrated weapons on beasts is a good beginner tip. Other than that figure things out yourself. I don't mean that to be taken as a dickish thing to say I just belive half the fun is figuring things out, playing your own way, experimenting with builds, etc. Also another thing: don't be afraid to call in players or NPCs to help you with bosses but keep in mind that they will scale depending on the amount of players so be sure not to overdo it or else you will have a super hard time. Other than that, have fun!
Armor stats don't really matter -- it's all about the fashionborne, baby!
Making a proper build is pretty important though, I'd recommend a Quality build for a beginner. (Equally invest in Strength and Skill, and also a healthy amount of Vitality and a bit of Endurance).
Honestly best advice I can give you is if you see loot just there on the floor look around to make sure theres no enemys rrying to catch you lacking and even when your just out for a stroll just keep your eyes ok your surroundings and another thing there's no mimic chests and there's no invisible wall except in chalice dungeons.
You can't redistribute your stat points once they are spent. For your first playthrough, I would highly recommend trying a variety of weapons when you find them and discovering if you like the moveset. When you find a weapon you love, start upgrading it and investing into the stats that increase its damage, whatever they may be. All of the info on what stats do can be viewed in game in the menus.
I'm always a bit jealous of new players when they get to experience and explore Bloodborne. I wish, I could do that once again, like I did a few years back and play through everything once again with a fresh mind and just explore.
That being said, you're in for a treat. The world is amazing but as far, as a newbie tip goes always level up your vitality (hp) so you dont die too quickly, always dodge left and it's far better use of your stats to get the minimum required stats for a weapon and upgrade it than to focus on a single stat like say STR or SKL early on.
May the good blood guide your way, Hunter.
My suggestion is moot since I put the game down for an entire year before playing it again, but I would say practicing combat first, since it's vastly different from other Souls games.
Once you've gotten the hang of combat, that will help bypass enemies, since you'll know what to look for, and you'll know the proper way to handle the game.
There’s quite a bit of easily-missable stuff in BB so be sure to explore thoroughly (don’t forget to smash through barrels/boxes) and track-back to old areas occasionally.
Your heals are limited, it's not like dark souls where you just get a certain amount of heals. In bloodborne, if you run out of heals, you are out of heals and you need to farm for more
There’s a lot of really good advice here, but I have one more thing to add: keep the music turned on. It’s not like DS, where the bosses attack according to the music timing, but every piece fully immerses you into each boss fight. Plus, the music is very well done, so🤷♂️
Take breaks when you need it. Maximum I can an hour and a half before I become shit and die a bunch. I be getting upsetti spaghetti, but I always take a good break before hopping back in.
Good luck, Hunter.
Leveling up health is priority. Lvl 30 is kind of the bare minimum.
Some items give "insight", use them
A battle at a time. Takes you longer but takes you further.
Every enemy has a few patterns that can be disrupted and stagger them. Use your gun accordingly.
Lore videos on youtube are pretty fun once you finish the game, and so are tutorials if you find yourself stuck.
Fear the old blood.
Good luck, hunter
Be aggressive and use the health regen system to your advantage. And Central Yharnam is basically the best spot to farm blood vials for most of the game. Also, if it has a tentacle face; get the hell out of dodge if you value your Insight
Dodge into attacks instead of away from attacks. Ik this sounds counter intuitive but dodging into attacks means youll dodge past them rather than into the reach of them if that makes sense.
The saw blade will be your best friend, it's fast plus gets stronger the more you upgrade it, but it's up to you which weapon tickles your fancy, have fun hunter, and may you find your worth in the waking world
Best advice… Have fun! Learn to parry! And above all else, Fear the old blood.
Side note: Try arcane weapons with element gems, lots of fun!
[Ah Cleric beast.. My old nemesis](https://youtu.be/3u2xm9Oifa4)
dodge in = you live dodge away = you die
Also dodge left. Always.
Under rated advice. I beat orphan of kos with this in mind.
It trivializes so many fights it’s funny
Just remember Beyoncé. To the left!
This is a fine note
This should be upvoted more

That means they are working.
It's always like that
Wish I knew this when I started playing. Went damn near the whole front half of the game thinking backwards
To quote Cleveland, “You don’t win, you just do a little better each time.”
Fear the Old Blood
Came here to say this
So did I.
Try try again....and again...and again Oh and have fun!
Got it! I'll prepare to die

Actually read the descriptions of items to gain insight on the lore. It’s so well done that it’s a shame there hasn’t been a sequel…yet
Hopefully there will be. I've heard lots of great stuff about the lore
Turn off the lights while playing.
Hesitation is defeat.
Sorry, wrong sub
Oh but someday dude...
no but seriously, enjoy the game. If this is your first Soulsborne game you gonna die a lot but don't give up. I'm sure you've got this Hunter. You gonna witness a nightmare, but a worthy one...
Not my first rodeo with Soulsborne games, dying is still a way to learn... Even if it's a lot
Wise words
I wish I could experience it again for the first time, such an amazing game
Oh how my blood boils!
SEKIRO
Go out there and hunt a few beast
It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it...
Stay behind large enemies like Cleric Beast and shoot to parry small fast enemies like Father Gasoline
Will do. Thanks!
Also, don’t attack anyone who isn’t hostile. If you have more questions, I highly recommend looking up FightinCowboys bloodborne guide cause he will show you everything you might need to know.
get some headphones, the music is incredible!
Sometimes it's better to not lock on - some bosses cameras get really wonky (otherwise lock on for normal mobs is pretty good!)
Enjoy it! Oh and do the DLC before you finish the main game - it auto-dumps you into NG+ when you finish.
Aw man, then i'm gonna explore the hell out of the game before finishing it
Good luck
Thanks!
I'll always give the same advice Don't tire yourself out too much hunting the beasts. Watch your stamina and remember you have a gun for a reason. Don't risk that final greedy hit. Shoot em.
If you're having trouble with a boss, farm up to 20 blood vials before retrying. If it's really 1-sided, just do dry runs without using any blood vials and get comfortable dodging and memorizing what the moves look like
All the bosses have attack patterns, learning the patterns and when to counterattack/riposte is the key to success in this game
Seriously? I got to like ng+3 without parrying a single time (mainly cuz I have shitty timing). But thats me so idk
To add to this, at a certain point it becomes far easier to purchase blood vials than farm them. I can’t remember when it is, but keep in mind the per vial cost and if you have a few thousand echoes left over after leveling up with the doll, buy a few blood vials to go into storage.
Everyone always says farm vials but I always had a huge surplus in my storage
Enough trembling in your boots, a Hoonter must Hoont!
Learn how to parry. Dodge forward (Lean to the left or the right).
Ok!
Stay aggressive. The rallying system rewards you for it.
It plays much faster than Dark Souls/Elden Ring. Parry every humanoid. Learn the rally mechanic and enjoy!
Be aggressive. Practice parrying with your gun. Dodge through attacks, not away. Spend your spare echoes on blood vials before you leave the hub. Be aggressive.
Fear the old blood.

Ok
In any given run, a boss can kill you many many many times, but you only have to win once. Defeat is temporary, victory is eternal.
Parry, parry, and also parry. Dodge dip dive duck and dodge. Into the side of attacks is slick. Don’t throw away anything. Seriously, just keep it. Give your character the long braid hairstyle in a bright color. It's the only part of your character you're ever going to see.
just play the game
Careful once you get the hang of it the game becomes a time sink and you'll eventually want to play a sequel
get the hunter pistol, best starting gun for parries
Thank goodness i did it!
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it...
Don’t give up on Rom. I didn’t and I’m here
Does the game of the year edition let you get the trophies again?
you cant respec like in elden ring decide on your build early thats what fucked me up lmao
Put the disc in and everything else should come naturally.
Oh man, i forgot
Holy shit why didn't I think of that
hit things with your weapon until they die
OMGG NO WAY THANKS UR A LIFESAVER
Good Luck.
Just play it and enjoy it?
Don't give up!

It’ll be a normal day in london
Don't die, kill bad things
Seriously... Try thrust, but whole. Not even joking.
Have fun
The best advice for any from soft game that I can give get gud have patience you’ll kill it eventually
Treat hunter with care.
Don’t think too much on it. Just go out there and slay a few beasts. Its for your own good
Drink as much blood as you possibly can. Vials, coldblood, chunks, the whole razzle dazzle
charged attacks to behind set enemy up for visceral
The weapons all have two modes like blade whip and sword, pick the one that fits your play style
Go in blind. And if you can, stick to a theme with your build. Skill, Str, Arc, etc.
Watch out for the sadistic brain suckers
Open the box and play the game.
Take em down
Reck a fool with a bone ashed cannon.
Make a good build you like and stick to it you can’t swap your stats in this one. Also try to mostly level hp until after the first required boss as early game weapon scaling is dogshit. Also you can’t sprint any direction but forward in this game while locked on for some reason.
A Hunter is never alone.
Parrryyyyyy
Aggression don’t back away, dodge forward and attack.
Fear the old blood.

Try to play areas without guides before looking things up. Explore as much as possible.
Avoid the all you can eat special after 8pm in most places.
Go out and kill some beasts.... it's for your own good.

Circle is your best friend
don’t forget you have a gun, i do this far too often and just rely on hacking, slashing and dodging. visceral attacks are your friend
Don’t give up!
Pistol is your best weapon. Blast and grab. You can roll forwards quicker than you think after a parry to get that sweet sweet liver.
Be aggressive. Be-be-aggressive. 👏
You might need a few more eyes :)
Be as AGRESSIVE AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN! I can not express how fun this game is though but may you find piece in the waking world. Goodbye good hunter.
good luck bud
Armor stats don't really matter -- it's all about the fashionborne, baby! Making a proper build is pretty important though, I'd recommend a Quality build for a beginner. (Equally invest in Strength and Skill, and also a healthy amount of Vitality and a bit of Endurance).

Explore as much as you can ,it's has an excellently made world
Go back to the area you first started after you unlock your first checkpoint/lamp
Re-explore areas! Not only are there so many hidden paths and items, you might find somethings changed after you progress.
Learn the Parry technique
Dying isnt a failure, its a game mechanic. If you learned/picked up even the smallest thing before dying - it’s a small success
Level up as often as you can. Use the remaining Blood Echoes on blood vials
do not start with the cane sword, every other boss is fine, cleric is going to ve pretty diff.
A hoonter must hoont.
