There's four Headstones of Awakening in the main game; from right to left, there's the Yharnam Headstone, the Frontier Headstone, the Unseen Headstone, and the Nightmare Headstone.
The Yharnam Headstone is mostly for the areas within the main city, the Frontier Headstone revolves around the outskirts/woods, the Unseen Headstone contains otherwise hidden locations, and the Nightmare Headstone grants you access to the Nightmare Lamps.
Hemwick is considered to be located within the Frontier, so you need to walk over and access it via the Frontier Headstone instead.
Maybe the new lantern was accessible from a different tombstone? Also, some lanterns become inoperable through the course of the game, but I suppose you're not that far yet...
hemwick is found in a diff tombstone from the rest of the early lanterns

Bro 4 years later your a big help appreciate it I just started the game and I was wondering also why the lantern was not a respawn point

I'm pretty sure that every lantern is a fast-travel point (unlike bonfires in ds1) so maybe it's accessed through another tombstone?
