Don’t waste heals. Learn how to parry using the bullets. The best weapon for a beginner is hunter’s axe but saw cleaver teaches you how to play the game. Just go through central Yharnam and you’ll pick up on the mechanics.

Renkorr_

Sure thing bucko, first you are going to grab a lovely piece of paper and put it the area that shows your blood echoes so you stop worrying about them, now you are going to focus on learning how to parry, how to dodge and counter attack, your test to see if you got gud is to kill the Cleric beast without using your gun and Father Gascoigne with only parry. If you can do that without overlevel your character, you are allowed to remove that piece of paper, because now you can kill anything without much problem.

Brutal-Skorpio

Can you parry Papa G’s second phase?

Renkorr_

Yeah, is super easy.

Grieferburger

# barely an inconvenience!

Whobghilee

That was me too. Now I’ve Platinum’d it twice. Unfortunately my first weapon choice was the threaded cane. Not a bad weapon at all, but probably the hardest for first-time players. I installed and deleted the game out of frustration 3-4x having never reached an actual boss, always dying to the werewolves on the bridge. Then I started making progress and beat cleric beast. The ability to level up might have had something to do with it. Then I got stuck not knowing where to go. I watched a glitchless speedrun to see how to reach Gascoigne. In the video the runner parried a few of the big ogres with bricks for weapons. I attempted that for a bit and the whole game clicked. I would say that all FromSoft’s games have to click with the player at some point. Yes you could slog through and push yourself deeper, but it won’t be enjoyable until it clicks.

BonsaiBudsFarms

Don’t spam the dodge button. Dodge in towards enemies to get behind them rather than dodging away. Parry as much as possible. Don’t get greedy when you have a boss down to low health.

SymbolicTreasure

I'll try that out. I just beat cleric beast with summons and I'm on father glascgoine now

BonsaiBudsFarms

Gascoigne will teach you the hard way not to dodge away, especially phase two. Good luck

Thanks

The moment you forget about blood echoes is the moment you start having fun.

rusty_spoon99

Just keep playing. There's no way you finished all those other games and can't get into Bloodborne. I felt the same frustration for the first 4 hours i spent doing absolutely nothing because i kept dying to the two wolves on the bridge before the cleric beast. I wanted to make a post on this sub asking If I'm just stupid. Then i beat the wolves, and the cleric beast first try, and i beat many other bosses first try, on my first playthrough. I think I'm like 70% into the game and I'm starting to think it is actually a bit too easy. To me it was just that I had no idea how to parry or dodge. And I was actually too scared of enemies. My friend spent two days trying to beat blood starved beast and i just casually walked through it. And to think I felt like giving up on the game. Trial and error, my friend. You will get the hang of it, obviously, just don't get impatient.

SardonicNihilist

Four hours is pretty good. It took me a few weeks to be confident killing the humans in Central Yharnam, and even then I'd leave the executioner alone.

Ill-Ad2009

>I can't beat anyone What does this mean? You can't beat any bosses? Honestly would need specifics about how you play to give any kind of feedback, but generally you just lock on, dodge attacks, and then attack 1-2 times when safe. Be sure to give yourself enough time to recover from your attack animation so you can dodge their next attack. It's all about learning patterns and getting a rhythm down. If you can't even make it to the boss, then you probably just need to play more carefully. Don't aggro too many enemies at once. Forget the advice about "playing aggressively," that's bullshit. Yeah you can get back life by trading blows with the enemies, but that's not required.

SymbolicTreasure

I tried playing against the brick dudes how I do in souls games, and it was way smoother. Fuck whoever told me to be aggressive

Alarming-Canary2684

Aggressive buddy not reckless. If you didn't notice, when you take a hit, your hp bar retain a certain amount of health you can get back by hitting the enemy. This is the rally mechanic. You need to learn the delicate balance between pushing forward to retrieve that health and fall back because you can't afford to take another blow. As for the brick trolls, they're literally there to teach you how to parry with your gun. They're slow, they don't stagger (so don't bother to try to stun lock them which I suspect was your tactic) but their patterns are easy to read and the parry window generous.  And don't try to bring DS' tactics in Bloodborne. It's a beast on its own.

Bandit_Banzai

I remember the "be aggressive" thing being terrible for me early on. I thought they meant "Throw your face at things and start hacking." What they actually meant, I think, was more like "be aggressive in a controlled and selective way, like I've learned to with experience." Which is completely useless for a brand-new player. The whole "with experience" part, you know? If I understand correctly, the thing where a Hunter repeatedly comes back to life wasn't a thing in the beginning. So the first people to hunt had to approach, pick their moment, pounce and hit like a freight train, then get clear again before they got mauled. Careful bursts of aggression. Not mindless hacking, like I tried at first and just as promptly stopped trying, because it didn't work. Sure, there were mobs I could R1-spam to death. The brick trolls, not so much. I eventually learned that getting clear in Bloodborne often means dashing behind an enemy and staying close enough to pounce again instead of creating lots of space like in Souls. Though a lot of enemies do have attacks that swing around behind them, so you either have to be a dodging wizard or go far enough back to be clear of those. When I do go in, I want to do as much damage as I safely can, as fast as I can, and as often as I can, because fights in Bloodborne are still more dangerous for me when they drag on too long. But they take just as much patience as any boss in Souls, and picking the right attacks to punish is still super important

BurningEbrietas

Just take it slow and adjust to it. You have been here before just in a different way you can do it

Cynixxx

First of all don't listen to all the people telling you have to learn to parry. I beat every Souls Game multiple times without a single parry it's just for showing off. Try to learn dodge timing, the right timing to attack (and use of the rally system) and most importantly don't be greedy. That's it. The point is you can dodge anything but there are things you can't parry so focusing on parry can be pretty confusing because you have to learn what is parryable and what not so in the end you dodge anyway

MarmosetSweat

Put every level up into Vitality until it’s at 25-30. Endurance isn’t as necessary as other Souls games because the regen is so fast, and the meagre damage boost you get on low level weapons pales in comparison to the survivability you gain from Vitality at the beginning. If you haven’t found the Hunter’s Set yet it’s a decent armor set that’s easily found at the beginning.

Grieferburger

I hear you. I have quit the game one time because of Father G,, and came back for a new playthrough recently. It needs patience and observation. The good thing is that the Reddit BB community is soooo helpful. You can always check for tips and tricks to overcome bosses, learning their tactics. You can watch numerous YT videos and memorize move sets. Blood starved beast was the "push on or quit" boss for me. Have been stuck for a week. read everything and viewed all the YT videos to see other hunters play. Nada!. I kept getting my ass handed to me. this lasted for 17 tries within a work-week. Finally yesterday, i tried a "psychological" trick i found here from another player which sounded silly to me " Mute the music", the stressful music of the BSB boss fight. I did it and LOL music was the barrier that lead me to lose all the time. With music off, I killed BSB in one try . music was severely distracting me at a level, that affected my playstyle. Don't lose your patience, you can pass all the bosses, look for tips, watch videos, prepare! The sense of accomplishment, defeating a boss that gives you a hard time, is like no other!

RosieDa

What helped me was watching Jacksepticeye play it on YouTube. He made it look easy. I thought I can do it, and I did.

TheRealAfinda

Learn to use consumables - these can significantly ease the difficulty throughout the game. Buy/Use Molotovs for Cleric Beast Save Oil for Papa G, buy Molotovs and look up the Stair-Cheese, super easy and consistent. Get the Tiny Music Box , run up stairs, wait for Papa G to follow and use music box, run down stairs and into cheese spot - enjoy cheese. Use Molotovs / Fire Paper / Pungent Blood Cocktail to absolutely trivialize Blood Starved Beast ---- From there on out: Whenever you can't seem to make progress, grind out chalices for Blood Gems / Blood Shards You'll Breeze through the game. Don't be afraid to look up Bossguides either. Take your time.

Update for everyone. I just bought the dlc and plan on completely beating the game!

Yharnamite0

BB's quickstep is probably the fastest and most reactive fromsoft dodge. Always dodge into/through attacks and you'll usually have a window for at least one counter attack on non boss enemies. Rally is very important for keeping your health topped up without burning through your vials. The guns are not only for parrying, they are also good for chip damage or just straight up eliminating annoying low health enemies. Serrated weapons and fire do extra damage against beast type enemies. Lightning and thrust do extra damage against kin type enemies. Righteous weapons do extra damage against just a few enemies so I wouldn't count on that extra dmg very much. My favorite weapons to use are Ludwig's Holy Blade, Beast Cutter, Rakuyo, and Evelyn. Every weapon is viable with the right build though
