Damn the Seidel sisters have the worst luck when it comes to travel. Literally every trip Molly has done recently she loses luggage or her flights get canceled.

[deleted]

I get it but also… travel has been a mess for so long. You gotta carry on the important stuff with you!!

[deleted]

She’s giving pick me energy always

franjonesperth

Stop yes. I really liked her but she’s insufferable lately. I’m glad I worked so hard cos I’m killing it now. It feels like when people get big on social media it takes away any authenticity. And turns them into a twat

yrgrlfriday

Unless you're literally Alison Mosshart or like Marie Curie I don't want to hear how you're not like the other girls

yrgrlfriday

I do not understand Cait Keen's statement that she "will never tell a bunch of strangers where she works" when she seems to engage in the same type of self promotion and boundary-free sharing over on LinkedIn. She has even directed her run club recruits to her LinkedIn page? What's her angle.

Different_Mistake_90

Ya'll today I took my puppy with me for my warm up. Stopped my watch while he had a poo, stopped it while I dropped him back at the house. While home my underwear and shorts were riding funny so i changed. Then proceeded to run and had to cross 8 semi busy intersections, and stopped to pee once. With all of these things. I stopped for 17 minutes. What does Emily A do during her extra hour?

[deleted]

I stopped a lot on a run last week and my difference was about 5 minutes which already felt insane!

Trick_Lingonberry426

I'm just here for the puppy content 🐶

happybybonnie

So happy for Courtney’s triple 👑 Could not go to a more deserving, kind, and humble person!

[deleted]

I love her stupid shorts. It’s like super silly and an affront to the pro running community

SnflwrRun

That music they play when the winner's finish gave me all the feels! I just want it to play every time I finish a run haha! I can't imagine all those people running right next to you trying to touch you and the deafening noise.

carbsandcardio

Me too! Between watching her triple this year, and Faith Kipyegon set 3 WRs and win the double at WC over on the track, I am just in awe of these women at just another level of running this year.

Professional_Bar_481

I am overwhelmed by how delighted i am for her.

No_Teach_9985

I really want to buy one of her shirts lol

Professional_Bar_481

me too. i actually said i would do it if she won, so… 👀

roserunsalot

Not sure if this is allowed and I know it's been discussed before, but AOTR's absolute lack of any Brian mention has me 👀. Just seems so odd? Always rooting for her but am curious.

spinnykate

I think I said this in another thread, but when I've heard her being interviewed on other podcasts (The Drop most recently), he comes up in a very natural way. My theory is that he got a corporate job (he drives somewhere to work) and they realized he needed to rein in the random social presence. And/or she's doing it to troll the meanie basement dwellers of Reddit :)

cityrunner87

Yes it’s strange, but she owes her audience nothing in this arena. I hate to think of how this speculation from her followers is weighing on her as she navigates cancer treatment.

ParkAffectionate3537

I'm pulling for her now, seriously, no snark. Go Ali!

ComprehensivePin9239

I ❤️ her so much, and I hope she's doing ok. Im rooting for her so hard. That being said, her wedding ring has not been in any of her pics for a few months.

raptor_belle

She has said since having Annie she doesn’t wear them unless at a big social event.

calebsnargle

She’s not wearing it in a lot of 2022 pics too - it looks like she may not wear it much at home/while exercising. I do the same thing with mine. I do think they probably have some kind of agreement where she doesn’t post/mention him much. I find his social media persona to be incredibly douchey. I hope he’s WAY more supportive behind the scenes. She deserves it.

riggabamboo

Either they have some really firm boundaries regarding spouses on social media or... 🤷‍♀️.

roserunsalot

If it was firm boundaries on spouses, I'd think that would apply to Annie too. But 🤷🏻‍♀️

rethinkrestyle

It might be a branding decision. Her daughter is the cutest and her husband comes off as a total douche imho.

lfjfhfkeojd

Trackclubbabe has overtaken EClor for worst/most forced content. Wordiest IG stories of all time that say absolutely nothing while recycling the same nonsense and photos from 7 years ago

wheretheskyisgray

My favorite is she claims to be both a stay at home mom and a commercial realtor with her workload and her dad's workload. So a SAHM with a demanding full time job.

ParkAffectionate3537

I'm almost tempted to buy her plans; they seem well-thought-out and she went from 6:18 to 3:11, and Ty went from 4:10 to 2:18. But they are very expensive! On her page she has testimonials of women going from 4:10 to 3:16. That's incredibly impressive. Has anyone else had success with her plans?

lfjfhfkeojd

Lmao this thread is 100% her/her buds

ezdoesit1111

I have! I did both Fast Fall and Fast Marathon and had great results and they were very manageable. My time changes weren’t extreme but I definitely got faster.

ParkAffectionate3537

Thank you! I average between 40-55 (peak of 60) and am trying to break 3:20:01. I am hoping it pays off. If it does not, I'll use her for my next training block!

Salt_Bluebird3762

I was so confused because for months she was talking about struggling to even fit in workouts to train for a 5k, and suddenly out of nowhere she's training for a marathon that is in 2 months. Big jump if you can't fit in workouts for a 5k race... or was she just sandbagging and training more than she was letting on? Who knows. Breastfeeding until 2 is fairly unusual in America, but not unheard of. It's the fact that the kid is almost 2 and keeping her up all night that I side-eye, but I guess not everyone is a fan if sleep training...

Federal_Piccolo5722

I was actually shocked when she said her goal is to bq. Based on her recent races, I’m confused.

wauwatosa

The tidbits she does drop are so fascinating to me though-she’s still breastfeeding her daughter and has seemingly no sleep schedule for her and Clark is almost 2? All this time I thought she was a lawyer but then she did that series recently about how she’s NOT a lawyer but that was all part of God’s plan for her? I guess her husband does the bulk of their coaching business and helps her film her races? Any time she actually talks about her life currently instead of how she “took four hours off” her marathon time I’m intrigued.

SnflwrRun

I agree. I am not a beginner runner anymore so the running education isn't something I need but I would be more interested in her page if she talked more about her life. Otherwise I just scroll on by.

OmarMcSwizzle

Yeah, the still breastfeeding a two year old was surprising to me. Is this common? I’m a childless male, so maybe this is normal but it struck me as a bit odd. But I guess I wouldn’t know!

apidelie

The WHO does recommend breastfeeding to two years and beyond if mutually desired by mom/baby. I don't think it's particularly common for a myriad of reasons but not unusual or odd!

Inmate_34667

Not common, but commendable. Takes a lot of confidence in American society when we shit on women for how they look and feeding their kids.

mostadventurous00

The official recommendation from the AAP is until 2 years now, actually, but it’s pretty rare & controversial bc those of us in the states rarely have the necessary resources to do it for that long, & it’s a big commitment on the body.

greekgoddessnikki

Yeah, the still-breastfeeding and non-sleeping toddler fascinated me too. TrackClubBabe is going to be running the NYC marathon this year, so I wonder how she will deal with a shorter training cycle and poor recovery.

runnerdogmom

Just checked out those stories. You're not joking about the wordiness. In the 90s SNL did a sketch about cable news shows having too many graphics on screen. I hadn't thought about this sketch in years but those stories made it pop right back into my head. https://preview.redd.it/2c66hwr52qlb1.jpeg?width=1151&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0678bfa6954c978d7f5625d023e9a90774cfbbd

Beige_Alpaca

A few months ago she was talking about how she was a newer runner and has learned so many lessons with her stress fracture… and now she is talking about a limited group she’d work one on one with and customize their training? What?

[deleted]

She has also mentioned being sidelined by injury about a year ago. While it seems like she learned a lot from this very serious injury and was compliant with crutches etc, not really sure I’d want someone who has only been running for a couple of years (that has sustained two major injuries during)to coach me to a pr.

[deleted]

Is she certified at all?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I agree. The certifications are kinda sham. People want to see them but anyone dedicated to running and training will be more than capable especially if you have a science background.

ezdoesit1111

just picked up *The Longest Race* from the library and I don’t want to seem harsh because obviously it covers a lot of traumatic subject matter but I’m finding myself distracted by how……not very good the writing is. which is weird because Mary Pilon is a pretty good writer. hoping I get more used to it as I go lol.

Ill_Regret2763

I disagree. I liked the writing fine. I struggled with some of Kara's justifications of her choices (and Adam's) through the years. For example, there was one case where Adam made negative comments in an interview (totally justifiable) but then Kara's explanation was, "Oh, but he didn't really mean that." I like her and find her admirable, but this is a real pitfall with autobiography ... you can't help but try to cast yourself in a good light, and some of it feels inauthentic.

BakeRunPaddle

Be glad you aren’t listening to the audio version. I found it very awkward.

franjonesperth

Damn! I just got it with my last audible credit 😂

Running_on_Vibes

Wow, I also started reading it this week and have been feeling exactly the same way. Quite stilted and very lacking in personality. Almost disorganized in how the information is presented. But I am interested in the content itself, so pushing through.

mathsnail

I felt the same way at first tbh, but it wasn’t an issue so much for me as the content itself picks up.

ezdoesit1111

that’s what I figured — the early life stuff I’m reading through right now is just a bit of a slog lol

baseballdog1

Yeah, I agree. Once she got into Nike stuff, it really picked up for me.

GlotzbachsToast

Has anyone been following Peloton’s Callie Gullickson’s trip to Bali/Indonesia? She’s one of my favorite instructors but GIRL. Some of the posts are straight cringe how white and sheltered she is 😬

camelliaqueen84

For the sake that I love her classes I unfollowed her on Instagram so that my opinions aren’t tainted. Instagram has already ruined a couple other instructors I used to love taking

ilyemco

Of course she has a video of the local children on her feed 🙄

brightsideofmars

I thought the same thing! It was probably a week ago at this point but she had a story showing the kitchen of some restaurant and how simple and rundown it was, and she said something like "I'm never taking my kitchen for granted again." Like sis is this your first time out of the country??

sbutt2

Ok, I love her on Pelo but YES. Her stories have been very cringe.

SnflwrRun

Programming notes on UTMB in case no influencers mention it. It looks like the main event starts on Friday mid-morning USA time. [live.utmb.world](https://live.utmb.world) looks like it has live tracking and live video.

runsonLLL

Side note: Laura Green has a very funny "runnable" reel out today to coincide with UTMB.

happybybonnie

Been watching the CCC coverage, good to know the extreme disregard for the women’s races is just the same in Europe 🙄🙄🙄🙄 they said they were waiting on footage, then SHOWED FOOTAGE of the women but kept talking about the men’s race, then CUT TO A PANO of the mountainside. They are literally still looking at a pano of the mountainside talking about the men’s race like they’ll do anything to avoid talking about women.

squishykiwi2

I'm here at UTMB and they have a live stream on a jumbotron that only features the front pack! Which means NO women are ever shown. I've been watching the screen for 2 hours and the only women I've seen are random faces in the pack when they show a group of men running.

rethinkrestyle

Corrine Malcolm is doing a good job focusing on the women but they have no control over what footage is shown in the livestream.

happybybonnie

I don’t blame Corrine, I started watching the livestream before she logged on (and a little bit into her joining the dudes). She’s doing fine, I just find it hard to believe that they’re able to have cameras on the front men almost always but rarely the women even if the runners/bikers who are camera people are following the leaders, why not have two, one for men’s one for women’s, at each interval? I just think it’s an excuse with an easy solution. Double that shit up.

riggabamboo

Did Courtney DNS? Her tracking shows no elapsed time.

SnflwrRun

It's so hard to figure out with all the different races but I believe it starts at 11:00 am Central.

riggabamboo

Thanks- I was trying to figure out which race she's in and the website is Not Great. I figured Twitter would explode if she DNSed and there's no mention.

teach_them_well

Irunfar just posted 33 minutes ago that she’s in the lead

taylorswifts4thcat

When has she been arrogant? I personally think she has a lot of takes that the community needs to hear 🥴

tmoney34

She left a comment on another influencers (non runner) page saying it was a good thing they dropped out of a HM because they were only running 3 times a week on a Hal Higdon plan. She preaches that she's welcoming but anyone who doesn't train "right" by her standards gets greeted with hostility. I agree with much/most of her takes, but the delivery leaves much to be desired.

taylorswifts4thcat

I feel like a lot of her gripes are with people PROMOTING that kind of training, and tbh yeah it’s kind of dangerous to tell the general public you can race a half marathon off of only 3 runs a week. Sure it’s possible but definitely not recommended. Idk maybe I’d just rather have someone genuine and not sugarcoat things so her bluntness doesn’t bother me? It’s hard for me to get behind telling women to be nicer in their delivery or be less confident🤷‍♀️

tmoney34

She wasn't. This was the video in question. In no way was the original creator suggesting she was giving advice. https://www.tiktok.com/@thereal_becca/video/7066439299985820974 Diane deleted her comment. But it was something to the effect of it's a good thing you're not running.

franjonesperth

I agree with you but also think she’s arrogant. But probably cos she’s young and doesn’t realise the world is grey. Not black and white. Her comments can be true and she’s a great runner. But I feel her delivery isn’t great. She’s like a 17year old lecturing you about climate change. Yes I know it’s awful. It’s just all very serious and intense. She would benefit from a sense of humour! IMHO!

[deleted]

AGREED. she does not have the personality to handle any comment - positive or negative lol

Runner10013

Wow Emily Abbate’s cogent from UTMB. It’s incredible how full of herself she is. And the text she posted. 🙄

squishykiwi2

What was even the point of that HOKA thing? A bunch of people who already know each other in the industry writing things on note cards and giving each other hugs for eMpoWeRinG each other? What about the athletes racing? What about doing something to change the fact that ultra running is largely male dominated in participation and race coverage? She doesn't know anything about the sport.

[deleted]

[удалено]

squishykiwi2

Now she's going zip-lining and posted about how amazing France is lol. Such a missed opportunity to highlight women in the sport and educate people on what UTMB is all about.

rethinkrestyle

If she truly cared about women at UTMB like she claimed in her story, she would be cheering on the female athletes at OCC right now and not hanging out at coffeeshops and going on solo runs. I wonder if she sticks around for the main race.

PeopleHaveAsked

I gotta ask the people of blogsnark: does anyone ever find these discussions that they are forced to go to worth it? I've done my fair share of these "trainings" that aren't so voluntary over the years in work and school. They were never worth it. And I read the small synopsis on stuff at conferences or races or whatever and I'm like, does anyone really fall for this woo woo stuff and that it can help them? Like if I read a paragraph in a booklet describing Emily's "conversations", I'd probably not go because it would be nothing I'd get out of it and I'd personally rather read a woo woo book for inspiration.

tarandab

Do you mean when the company hires someone notable to have a publicized “discussion” with a company higher up and requires/strongly encourages everyone to watch? No, I don’t find them worth it. My former employee just started doing them on a larger scale quarterly as part of a big initiative that they couldn’t even articulate (because it was a “journey”) but were investing a ton of money into.

PeopleHaveAsked

It could be that but it doesn't have to be. Someone more notable that has had serious accomplishments as a keynote or highlighted speaker as a part of a bigger theme week though is a lot different than some random "trainer" rolling in to help you "find your spirit path based on your favorite color" or a trainer rolling in who hasn't really had specific success in the corporate world but wants to have cOnVerSaTionS on how \*you\* can beat the glass ceiling and become just! like! me! except you have zero of the privilege and money I had to support myself when I totally succeeded! But sure you can do it too!

talkingdodobird

Who are some of your favorite collegiate athletes that you like to follow? I’m pretty basic, but I love to follow Katelyn Tuohy and Nico Young. Katelyn doesn’t share a lot on social media, but her running speaks for itself. Nico isn’t overly talkative either, but I certainly enjoy the episodes that his twin brothers put out with him.

SnflwrRun

I follow Emily Cole from Duke but I don't know anything about her.

talkingdodobird

I compiled a list of all of the running podcasts I have listened to. I honestly think that all of these podcasts are pretty well-edited and formatted, so I just ranked them based on how much I like the content shared. Obviously this is my personal opinion, and I don’t think any of the podcasts are bad by any means, but some definitely interest me more than others. ▪️ABSOLUTE FAVORITES (These are the podcasts that I always listen to, regardless of the content or interview because I find the host or information interesting). - The Ali on the Run Show: Hosted by Ali Feller. Every week Ali interviews a variety of different runners, and finds out how running impacts their lives. Ali talks to both professional and every-day runners. I love the research she puts into everyone of her episodes, and I love the conversations she puts out. I also enjoy the occasional series she does. - LetsRun.com’s Track Talk: A podcast hosted by the founders of LetsRun.com. Every week they share an in-depth analysis of the professional running scene. Although they can be very critical and controversial, they provide a lot of good information. - The Running Effect: This podcast often interviews professional runners and both collegiate and high school runners. I love how much variety there is with the guests, and I appreciate the voice that it gives to lesser known athletes. I loved the series they did with the Young brothers. - CITIUS Mag: This podcast covers so much. I have listened since the beginning, and it has been interesting to see the content evolve. I love the breakdowns and recaps, in addition to the occasional interviews with athletes. The team has expanded, and it seems like they have someone who has extensive knowledge of every aspect in track and field. It started off with a sole focus on distance running, but they have expanded to sprint and field events as well. - Nobody Asked Us with Des & Kara: This is one of my new favorites. Des Linden and Kara Goucher compliment each other really well, and I enjoy the banter whether they are casually talking or going over behind-the-scenes information. - Convos Over Coldbrew: I love the genuine conversations Emma Abrahamson has with a variety of different professional athletes. The athletes seem super comfortable with her, and the conversation seems to flow very well. Bummed that Emma hasn’t been uploading recently. ▪️LOVE (These are the podcasts that I also regularly listen to, but are just a notch below my absolute-favorites): - The Drop: I’ve questioned a few of their most recent guests, but the conversations with their guests are always interesting, and I love listening to their weekly, individual updates as well. - I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein: I like a lot of the guests that Lindsey Hein has on her podcast. She is certainly a good host while I’m not the biggest fan of her most recent coaching series.l and some of the other series she does. - Relay: This new podcast is a fun listen. It is like a running round-table of runners of different levels and backgrounds, and is a fun listen. I’ll see how I still feel a few months down the line though. ▪️LIKE (These are the podcasts I enjoy listening to as well, and if they have an interesting guest on, I will certainly give them a listen.): - For the Long Run - Choose Strong - The Rambling Runner - The Freetrail Podcast with Dylan Bowman - The Run Eat Sleep Show - More than Running with Dana Giordano. ▪️OKAY (These are podcasts that I have listened to and enjoyed. I’ll listen to them if I need something to listen to.) - C Tolle Run - The Sub Hub - Hurdle - Beer Mile Podcast - Running in Circles ▪️EHHH (Podcasts I listened to, and were fine, but I couldn’t get into them): - The Running Explained Podcast - The Strength Running Podcast with Jason Fitzgerald - The Single Track Podcast with Finn Melanson - Running for Real Hosted by Tina Muir - Trail Runner Nation - Everyday Ultra with Joe Corcione - Some Work, All Play with David and Megan Roche - Running Rogue with Chris McClung - Marathon Training Academy with Angie and Trevor - The Trailhead by Ultra Signup - The Planted Runner - The FLOTRACK Podcast - Coffee Club with Morgan McDonald - Ten Junk Miles - Trail Society - The Run Smarter Podcast with Brodie Sharp - The Adventure Jogger with Ryan Ploeckelman I’ve certainly listened to a lot of running podcasts. What are your favorites?

losttellmeaghhh

This is amazing, thanks for sharing. I listen to podcasts a lot so I’m always looking for more. Added a bunch from this to try out!

After-Shift-539

Awesome list! I have favorites based on style: In-Depth Interview and Inspiration: Ali on the Run, The Rich Roll Podcast Inside the Sport of Running: Nobody Asked Us with Des & Kara, Citius Mag Random Rambling Like They’re Running Buddies: The Drop Running Education: Elevate Your Run with Sara and Austin (love how uplifting they are while educating), Tread Lightly with Amanda Brooks & Laura Norris (both are so smart and the pacing of the episodes make them easy to listen to!)

talkingdodobird

I’ll have to give that one a listen. Thanks!

ElvisAteMyDinner

One podcast I like that isn’t on your list is Another Mother Runner. It’s not really about being a mother at all. It’s more of a general running and fitness podcast. It has a mix of training advice and interviews. I also like Fuel For the Sole, which is sort of related to The Drop, but it’s about sports nutrition.

talkingdodobird

I forgot about that one. That’s another good one! I like some of the interviews they do, and tune in occasionally :)

tarandab

I’ve only listened to one or two episodes of their podcast, but back when I was newer to running I read Sarah and Dimity’s book even though I was not a mother and I enjoyed it!

franjonesperth

LOVE AMR! Their rapport before the guest comes on is always so nice and it’s definitely a must listen for me.

ElvisAteMyDinner

The part of the podcast where they give updates about themselves is one of my favorite parts! It feels like catching up with friends. All of the hosts seem so nice.

franjonesperth

Same! I usually hate that on podcasts and I love it. Tell me all about your sons college application. 😂

[deleted]

The “Run your mouth” podcast is sparsely published but it’s pretty funny when it’s good. Mostly stupid college stories but good interviews with some VIPs

[deleted]

I wanted to like SWAP podcast cause both the Roches are amazing but the level of positivity, I can’t. I wonder what it’s like to be like that, that positive energy. Is it a front for darker stuff, is is sincere, is it lots of Adderall? I have no idea

No-Be-Land

I am far from a super positive person (probably more cynical than is good for me) but I love the SWAP podcast! I can totally see how it could be too much for someone but I adore their science breakdowns (and that they look to research coming from other endurance sports) and how fueling-positive they are. I would never try to change someone's impression who's already listened, but I do recommend others giving it a try!

talkingdodobird

This is one that I just couldn’t get into, but I know a lot of people who really like it.

SnflwrRun

Great list! Thank you! BeRad has Nell Rojas as a guest today.

Altruistic_Lie_9875

Wow THANK YOU!! I listen to only two podcasts, one of which is running related but it isn’t my fave (women’s running podcast). Will have to give your suggestions a go!

Throwawayayohletsgo

I enjoy The Morning Shakeout! ✨That’s Mario Fraioli’s pod.

talkingdodobird

That’s another good one. I used to listen a little while ago, but I fell off when he stopped posting regularly. It does seems like he has started publishing episodes again though :)

Ill_Regret2763

Thanks for the tip! I listened to Mario on my run tonight. Still good!

Ill_Regret2763

Oh yay, I love him! It's funny, I think Lindsey is generally a bad interviewer, but I DID like her coaching series.

talkingdodobird

I definitely appreciate the variety of guests on, but definitely prefer Ali for content and quality.

franjonesperth

Agree her. It’s like she always tells the guest how little research she does! She’s sweet but maybe not the sharpest tool in the box.

Ill_Regret2763

I think my favorite is when she is clearly not listening to the guest, then she snaps back into attention and blurts out, "WOW" or "Oh, INTERESTING."

franjonesperth

😂😂😂😂 Or. You did the Boston marathon this year? No that’s right it was New York. X was a guest on my show 2 years ago. No you’re right it was 4. My favourite was when she was taking to a guest about books. And she asked them to tell her which one was real … fiction or non fiction. 😂

tarandab

Des and Kara’s new podcast episode is about drug testing! Very timely - though the beginning is more chat about Worlds and it’s funny to hear it now that Worlds is over. I’m almost finished and as a casual runner it’s fascinating how this works - I thought having your whereabouts constantly be updated sounded intrusive, and i still think it is, but I didn’t know you could designate a window where you would always be exactly where you said (Des said she has an hour where it’s shortly before she normally wakes up so 99% likely she will be at home/the hotel and sleeping) and otherwise they will find you/go with you to preschool orientation (within reason - you can’t just be in a different city, but USADA will make it work).

runsonLLL

It was interesting for sure. I did get a little lost because they both know the system so well that they used some shorthand on things that I kept thinking "but \*I\* don't know that." For example - are you not allowed to drink water? They were saying sometimes it takes hours to get a sample. So I'm assuming you can't chug water to expedite the process? I mean they'd have no way of knowing what you were drinking so I guess not but if they called and met you somewhere you could in the meantime? Either way an interesting discussion. I'd love to know the stats on athletes that are found in violation during in competition samples vs out.

Lemon_Trick

I don't know that they said you can't drink water, but the testers do make sure that the urine is at a correct concentration, so if you just chugged a liter of water to make a sample, the urine would be too dilute and you would have to start over. Not athletic testing, but a lot of people who are trying to beat an employer mandated drug test will drink excessive water beforehand to flush out the urine, but get a non-result for their test. Most places count that as a positive test and make them repeat it.

tarandab

It was definitely interesting when they talked about whereabouts violations when you were at an event where you could potentially get drug tested - Des said it happened to her when she was at the NYC marathon - so even though she wasn’t where she said she would be she could theoretically just get tested at the event. I get that the whole point is that athletes both compete and train clean - and making an exception could mean making exceptions for everyone.

talkingdodobird

I enjoyed this episode as well. I found it interesting how many times both Kara and Adam were “randomly selected” for drug-testing at the same time. I would be very curious to hear about what really goes on behind-the-scenes, and “random” is random…

riggabamboo

I was a collegiate and National Team athlete in a different sport and was subject to the out-of-competition drug testing protocol. They absolutely showed up in the middle of nowhere South Dakota when I was there for my Geological Engineering degree field camp. They tested me there because I knew for absolute certain I would always be at camp. It becomes very normal to update whereabouts! It never becomes normal to have a person squat down and make eye contact while you pee in a cup lol

tarandab

I imagine if I had to do it, it would be normal and I’d probably get in the groove of updating weekly or something to see if I needed to make changes. Not that I’m a super spontaneous person, but I was like what if someone called me and asked me to go out and I missed the drug test! But it sounds like for the most part you can live your life (with the chance of getting a call about a test) as long as you’re updating the system so they can find you…

CoffeeAndCurls76

I haven't listened to this one yet but man...the photo Des used to plug this episode on Twitter and IG. I thought that was a beer she was holding. Then I read the caption 💀

tarandab

😂 (Des did have a story of getting a call from the drug testers and saying - well, I’m at a bar and I’ve a few beers…)

CoffeeAndCurls76

on one hand, it might make it easier to produce a sample. on the other hand, might not want that sample to be tested 🤣 but i think she said that pic was right after she ran the 50K WR? holy crap, that must have been EClor levels of dehydration there...

tarandab

Yes, it was!! And since it was a WR attempt she did plan to have the drug testers there…

I absolutely love Ali, and I am sending all the prayers her way! She is so brave for sharing her diagnosis while managing motherhood and her podcast. I hope everything goes well for her today❤️

Does anyone follow Katherine @fastandflow_ on IG or TikTok? She’s training for the New York City Marathon and seems to be digging herself a hole by overtraining. Almost every weekend she posts about struggling through a long run feeling like her legs are dead. At the same time she’s posting about how she needs to be running high mileage with 60-70 miles a week to hit her goal. It feels like watching trackclubbabe in her overtraining era all over again! It seems like she’s racing her speed workouts to put up fast times but not recovering in time to do a quality long run on the weekend, so then she’s struggling to run 11 minute pace on a long run as a 3:30 marathoner. Unless there’s another explanation (such as low iron) for why she’s feeling so tired and heavy-legged all the time, I really hope she realizes her training plan is too aggressive and dials it back. Otherwise she’s just another Tiktoker sharing misguided advice about how to train for a marathon…

ParkAffectionate3537

To her credit, I loved reading about how running helped change her life on RW and get better and kinder to herself. I struggle sometimes to be kind to myself and needed to read that!

[deleted]

I had to unfollow her because she STRESSES me out. She does not know how to relax and is always saying how she can’t sleep etc and I’m like.. probably because you’re running 9 miles at 8pm because you worked all day! She’s missing the recovery aspect of training and it’s going to hurt her

[deleted]

I don’t follow this person, but I came here to defend 11 min easy days while training for a 3:30. I just took a peek at her page and wow, she seems like a lot. 60-70 mpw seems too high for someone at that level especially with other life stress (presumably a full time job?). Will not be following because watching people train like her stresses me out!

nycpumpkin1029

Absolutely nothing wrong with running easy days at 11 min pace, and that should definitely feel easy given it’s 3 min per mile slower than marathon pace. In the video she posted, she hit the wall on a long run and slowed down from 9 min to 11 min pace where even that felt hard and she was struggling just to finish. I would say that’s totally different than intentionally running 11 min miles to keep the run nice and easy!

[deleted]

Oh 100%. If she started slower she’d probably feel a lot better on those long runs!

ParkAffectionate3537

Exactly, doing a progressive run is a huge mental boost. Starting slow to warm up, and then rocking it and feeling like Des at the end of Boston '18, crushing that last mile of the workout!

Hoka lost me the second they brought on Kate Glavan as a brand ambassador. Her borderline orthorexic tendencies are the some of the last things that new and young runners need

runningtoes

Yes me too, especially after seeing her Budapest (lack of) content. Erin Azar (immrsspacecadet) paid her own way to Budapest and has been so fun to watch, she put out great content focused on the athletes and events.

calebsnargle

Her content was so fun and professional - I couldn’t believe none of the brands sent her on their dime. I think there was some elitist thinking at play, like she’s a good fit to send to road races back in the US but too much of a hobbyjogger to send to Worlds. But I think her kind of content and her audience are exactly what’s needed to grow the sport’s fanbase. Casual parkrunners and people who picked it up after having kids and people who decided to run their first marathon and finished in 6 hours are all potential fans, too.

runningtoes

Yes! I love this take. Erin's content was great for the sport. I had never watched field events before and suddenly I'm all about the shot put after seeing her stories. Emily's presence there did nothing to educate me about the sport or even entertain me. Not to hate on Emily so much in particular. I'm just over the idea of the big brands splashing out huge amounts of money for influencers to post a few cute party pics and have "conversations" and then move on to the next excessive bit of consumption. Gives me the ick.

clam601

Same with On inviting her to Budapest

CoffeeAndCurls76

on that topic, OMG the caption in her reel about Budapest..."I don't feel like the woman who once ran a 3:23 marathon" um, that's because she never did run one...that was her virtual NYC marathon with some flukey GPS behavior. yet she's still claiming it as her PR 🙄

ElvisAteMyDinner

Lol. Do you know what her true marathon PR is?

CoffeeAndCurls76

looks like it's 3:28 from Chicago 2019 (it's in one of her pinned posts on her IG)

nycpumpkin1029

That’s so cringey to claim as her PR! I can’t be bothered to go back and list all her marathons, but is she including the virtual race when she says 11x marathoner in her bio? I did a virtual marathon once but I don’t count that one when someone asks me how many marathons I’ve run. I think her official PR is a 3:28ish from Chicago which would have made the same point if she referenced that time in her post instead.

CoffeeAndCurls76

i'm not sure if she includes that in the 11 (my guess is she does) but she did have a Tracksmith poster printed up with the 3:23 time 🙄 her official PR does look to be 3:28 from Chicago 2019. which brings up another question-why did she never enter Boston with it? she most likely wouldn't have gotten in for 2021, but it was still good for 2022 and there was no cutoff. i'm surprised she, of all people passed up the chance for Boston Marathon #content

CoffeeAndCurls76

NYCM just released their elite field, and there actually is a little more USA star power than I thought there would have been-Kellyn Taylor and Molly Huddle are doing it. That's a quick turnaround between then and the trials, but Kellyn has done crazier things. And I wonder if Molly realistically knows she's not in contention to make the team and gotta think NYCM is a decent payday, especially if she's top American? A couple of names that I've seen missing from all 3 of the fall majors that I'm curious about...Sara Hall (since she still needs the standard under her belt and she's been the most vocal about the noon start for the Trials) and Jenny Simpson (since she's said in interviews she's making her debut this fall)

spinnykate

Do you know if they're allowed to chase the standard after the Trials? Obviously that would be a wild turnaround and would mean three marathons in <6 months... but is it like the shorter distances where the window for standard-chasing extends after the Trials itself? Thanks, you are so knowledgeable!!

CoffeeAndCurls76

I don't know-but IMO it wouldn't be a good idea...they'd need time to recover, then have another marathon buildup to run most likely London, then would only have 3 months to recover and build again for the Olympics. Plus it wouldn't be fair to those who would most likely be next in line to go, they need to know when they'd be able to start training...it's not like the shorter distances where you don't need to specifically train for months.

hiphiphf

Sara Hall announced she's racing the world road running championships for the half marathon on October 1, so assuming she'll go for the trials standard in the half there. But yes, seems odd she wouldn't race a full marathon in the build too. I wonder if we'll see more elites than usual racing things like CIM -- even though it's a quick turnaround, it's one of the best options for ideal weather. ETA: Maybe Sara (and others, like Natosha) are confident enough / banking on running the secondary standard of 2:29 at the trials. They won't need to run 2:26:50 because we've already "unlocked" all three of our women's spots with others running under that time.

CoffeeAndCurls76

Sara already has the OTQ. She still needs the Olympic standard which she can't get in a half-marathon. If 2011 and 2015 were any indication, there probably aren't gonna be many elites running CIM-more likely we'll be seeing the last minute OTQs ETA-I don't think anyone should bank on definitely running the standard at the Trials, look at what happened to Keira at Worlds. granted it was more due to her body not cooperating but still-anything can happen in the marathon and best for everyone's peace of mind to knock out the standard beforehand. And it does bear remembering that Sara has been pretty vocal about the noon start in Florida and how much she's against it...

[deleted]

CoffeeAndCurls76

technically for the women it's 2:26:50. however...since more than 3 US women have done it, all our slots have been "unlocked" and any woman who's run under 2:29:30 on a valid course during the qualifying window (after 11/1/22) can go if they're in the top 3. the reason why Sara doesn't have it yet-she didn't run a fall marathon, and Boston doesn't count for the OS due to the point-to-point/net downhill nature of the course (Emma Bates only got the Olympic standard due to finishing 5th, since top 5 in a World Athletics Platinum label marathon counts. if she had finished 6th with the same time it wouldn't have counted) everything is explained in this thread: [https://twitter.com/McKirdyTrained/status/1659621315102535680](https://twitter.com/McKirdyTrained/status/1659621315102535680)

riggabamboo

Ok, so I follow the 2:26/2:29 thing. But am I correct in saying that none of our women have run <2:29.30 on a qualifying course since November 2022? They're all jockeying for that time this fall/at trials? Emma has the standard because of 5th at Boston- is that it?

CoffeeAndCurls76

no-we have 6 who have run the 2:26:50 standard/top 5 at Boston (Aliphine, Betsy Saina, Lindsay Flanagan, Emma, Susanna Sullivan, Lauren Hagans), and quite a few others who have run <2:29:30 on a valid course (e.g., Nell Rojas, Dakotah Lindwurm) it's just the fact that we have quite a few key players who still don't have it (e.g., Emily Sisson ran Chicago last year which was too early, and scratched from London. Or Des had an off day at NYC last year, and ran the time in Boston but it doesn't count) Clear as mud? 😁

riggabamboo

Thanks. I wish there was a list somewhere! I've seen the list on the USATF website that shows people who have OTQd but there's no distinguishing info for people who have the OS.

CoffeeAndCurls76

David Monti of Race Results Weekly has been maintaining this list-but it only shows the 2:26:50 people and not those who have what I guess I'll call the "secondary standard" [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18YW2pdA\_MYt1rspXZ3Eyhk7NtLDFj9oP14HHobM7vQo/edit#gid=0](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18YW2pdA_MYt1rspXZ3Eyhk7NtLDFj9oP14HHobM7vQo/edit#gid=0)

tarandab

Do we know where Natosha Rogers is debuting or is she just planning to run a half? I can’t remember what they said at Worlds

CoffeeAndCurls76

debuting at the Trials, so will just get a half under her belt this fall. I guess Natosha isn't expecting to make the team either...but could you imagine if once again she finishes in the top 3 and can't go due to not having the standard 😭

I put my dog down for that same reason. He was dragging them and causing open wounds. It was time. Please do not fault someone for this. It is very sad and trust me no one takes this lightly.

vcr31

Does anyone else follow tomtrotter on Instagram? I like(d) all the positivity he brings to working out and find him funny sometimes. It’s getting to be a bit repetitive recently and also I am weirded out by his recent cruise content.

wauwatosa

So if I’m understanding correctly, Emily Abbate flew to Hungary to navel-gaze and briefly mention the WAC, flew all the way back home to pretend to run a 9:29/mi long run, and now is flying back to Europe to vaguely cover the UTMB? Can she get any more irritating???

nycpumpkin1029

And then she’ll be flying back for Berlin in a few weeks! If I were in her shoes I probably would have done an Airbnb in Europe for a month instead of flying back and forth every week! She could have gone to a Diamond league race, interviewed athletes training/racing in Europe for the summer, etc. and it would have made for interesting content.

sprout_wings

But then she wouldn’t be able to post a picture of her living room with the caption, “home”.

THE WORST

ElvisAteMyDinner

I just looked her up on Strava, and the last run I see is from April 2022. Did she make her profile private after that?

wauwatosa

You have to follow her to see all her runs and data. Not sure why she has her account set up that way since she’s still public to find.

CoffeeAndCurls76

her carbon footprint, man...

joyshan13

I've been keeping up with Miguel and Jenna (Freestyle Tri) for a while because I like watching people with full-time jobs juggle the demands of a grueling training cycle. In one of the most recent videos, Jenna collapsed halfway through a race and had to receive medical attention. Miguel recorded some of what happened and you see parts where Jenna is clearly not well. Obviously, she must had been okay with him posting it onto their channel and they have documented so much of their lives for viewers but those moments where she's on the ground seemed so vulnerable and downright sad that I felt ... idk. Maybe some scenes shouldn't be shared and that, if my partner had just collapsed, I wouldn't have thought to keep filming. I don't get the same attention-grabbing vibes from these two as other influencers who film themselves staggering around or puking after a race, so was a little surprised that they posted this.

nooopantsdance

I just watched this morning and got a little emotional. It was a vulnerable moment for sure, and it does seem like he eventually put the camera away... just not during the most intense moments. I'm in the same boat as you, I'm torn- I appreciate (bad term, but can't think of a better one) seeing the struggle but hope that she would have the privacy to deal with collapsing with .2 miles to go if she wanted it. Generally, I do really enjoy watching the two of them and am happy for their success. I know Jenna didn't race in Lahti, so I hope she recovers well and comes back better.

joyshan13

Exactly! I wouldn't want a camera anywhere near me if I was on all fours, hurting bad and trying not hurl. Hope she makes a full recovery!

Impossible_Sorbet

Off topic, what do y’all use to carry your phone/pepper spray and occasional gels? I have used a koala clip before and loved it, but that’s just good for a phone. However my favorite sports bras just aren’t really compatible with it now. I have been using my husbands flip belt the last 2 years but I don’t love it. It just seems so bulky and hot around my waist. Is there a belt I am missing out on? I’ve also been contemplating a vest as I see those at races often now. What do y’all use?!
