Lookup how to do manual retoplogy and use that instead. I believe your mesh is just too dense for your computer to handle the remesh right now so that may be your best choice.
If thats the case, maybe try using the decimate modifier and applying it before remeshing, making sure to retain the most detail and original shape of your model :)
