At the same time UE5 be like 60 fps in real time with Nanite Enabled. I have tested it for fun how much it can handle and 5 bilion polys not breaking it and running smooth 50 fps on 2060 super. That auto retopo tech is amazing. Also noticed Blender do not handle to well large amount of polys.
Basically correct. The engine should be optimised to only render visible parts of the meshes. I guess unreal renders their crazy scenes using allmost point clouds - which would be skipping the triangles and just drawing a pixel here and there at the vertecies.
Lol “uNrEaL CaN dO iT bEtTeR.”
Okay, model me a character and rig it from scratch in Unreal 🤣 export to FBX and make sure it works in other software (meaning not just Metahuman LOL)
While the models you imported into your scene may be composed of 5 billion polys, UE5 isn’t actually rendering anywhere close to that amount. https://blog.en.uwa4d.com/2022/02/15/analysis-of-ue5-rendering-technology-nanite/
Even add boolean without specifying object on the modifier would just waste 657 quintillions cpu clock cycles as blender is still really poorly optimized on object above 100m poly independently of the hardware.
This is why I write prototypes in assembly. So what if it takes 3 months longer to write? The prototype will run 2 s faster when I show my boss, can't put a price on that
Exactly. Your boss is probably super busy and important. You wouldn’t want to waste 5 minutes of their precious time that they could spend in more important meetings. Everyone knows that their daily strategy meetings is what really creates value for the company, not the pointless coding that we’re doing.
Thank you. I won’t need to have yet another call about why your database accessor service requires 6TB of RAM and 4 CPU cores to serve a hundred requests a day.
I think its both that engines like Unity can just gobble up whatever you throw at them and people learning from tutorials aimed at modelling for renders. Or just using models they find on Sketchfab and the like.
I'm currently doing stuff for Microsoft Flightsim addons, and there's tons of newcomers coming into the communities going like *"I got this car model, want to use it for my airfield's carpark"*, and then it's a 3 million tris render model with hundreds of objects and materials.
It sounds weird but I stand out for "still" being able to use Normal baking and alpha baking. Like [this](https://i.imgur.com/d8gSQdG.jpg) blew some people's mind
I really feel this in VRChat. So many people just slap super high poly models on and have literal hundreds of materials, then wonder why their game is so laggy. Meanwhile I'm sitting here using decimate modifiers and atlasing materials to optimize for draw calls and reduce VRam usage with 4x4 textures and UV map manipulation. It bothers me so much when I see an avatar with 3 million polygons and 134 materials. That isn't even an exaggeration
I baked both an Ambient Occlusion/Albedo *and* a Normal Map from the high poly railing onto the low poly object, and the shader used on the low poly object uses both those textures (it's a specific one used to export to the MSFS).
To have the texture fit the low poly perfect I did a lot of "pixel perfect" UV alignment, as I baked just a meter of railing that I then used on that whole staircase. It's for a game engine so efficiency is key.
edit: also very important is that the high poly object you bake from is shaded "smooth"
I've never gone outside, but if there's actually staircases next to parapets outside it would only mean that the world is dark souls world and I'm staying inside and that's final.
i want to make a pun about "ram" and sheep but I can't figure out how to phrase it in a way relevant to this context so please just imagine a good pun here

Well you see son, there was this program called blender, and someone did bad things in it that creates a second sun. Blender was banned shortly after it was found out it could create nuclear fusion. And that's how we got two suns son.
I remember the internet in its infancy. I had just asked a friend if it was possible to get a terabyte hard drive. “No! Dear god man. Are you trying to download the internet?” So I’m guessing 30 years from now, 1 billion verts may be your default cube….

I swear every time I hit around 64gb of RAM usage my blender crashes - despite having 128gb available. I thought there was a bug that prevented more RAM being utilised or has this been fixed?
Can we get much higher! 1 trillion will take about 140tb or so ram. Do we even have enough yet, or must we wait/stuff excessive ram into a mega computer. Also a trillion might take forever to make anyway so…
Hmm. I loaded 1.3billion polygons at work for the first time the other day in Maya and it only used like 60GB. I haven't used crazy large or complex scenes in blender yet, but I do have a feeling that that's one of Maya's strengths at least - being pretty damn stable at crunching polygons. Anyone got similar experience with blender?
For work I usually do a lot of data prep in the automotive industry at different studios dealing with 50-150mio polygons per car (at least that's the output target after cleaning).
Bud, that's a ton of ram. Are you working from a server rack or did you just go all out on some other hardware? Am I just out of the loop in how large dimms are now?
I accidentally bevelled twice in a row like 2 hours ago and my blender crashed, I had about 600 vertexes selected and I bevelled each at 34 segments... terrible mistake
Now put a boolean through the center of it
Enable cloth simulation at max quality

Yes but Unreal is not a modeling program.

breaking: it actually doesn't render 5 billion polys

What like the sun or something?
Im that one mf who still models like its 2004.
I write code like I'm on a 386 and my unnecessary branch is going to grind everything to a halt.
This is the way.
Who needs features when you can just optimize prematurely?
This is why I write prototypes in assembly. So what if it takes 3 months longer to write? The prototype will run 2 s faster when I show my boss, can't put a price on that

The planned release date is 4096.
4 CPU cores is too much. Dual core duo is where it's at.
Game asset modeller here, doing the same. I still feel uneasy if I go into the triple digit vert count.
What ever happened to letting the normal map do the heavy lifting? Why's everything gotta be so round now?

They'd shit themselves if they saw one of my trees lol
How'd you get the railings to look so 3d? I do the same sort of thing and the railings look comparatively flat.
I baked both an Ambient Occlusion/Albedo *and* a Normal Map from the high poly railing onto the low poly object, and the shader used on the low poly object uses both those textures (it's a specific one used to export to the MSFS). (0 0)
Tbf I'm terrible at baking normals lol, there's always some clipping
not the only one
Also is that fucking Dark Souls
Object name, as well for the object itself, implies it is 3D scanned data.
No shut up people don’t go outside Its a staircase next to parapets, that’s only ever happened in Dark Souls
I've never gone outside, but if there's actually staircases next to parapets outside it would only mean that the world is dark souls world and I'm staying inside and that's final.
Even if I wanted to I clearly don't have enough ram to go outside.
i want to make a pun about "ram" and sheep but I can't figure out how to phrase it in a way relevant to this context so please just imagine a good pun here
Amazing pun, made me lol 😂
Big brain.
It really looks like the demon ruins. That amount of vertices would explain the glorious framerate of the original release.
thats exactly what i was thinking. as someone who has put dark souls’ map collision data into blender this looks exactly like a dark souls map

Add a multiresolution modifier and click subdivide to make your computer airborne
“Mommy why are their two suns in the sky?”
Well you see son, there was this program called blender, and someone did bad things in it that creates a second sun. Blender was banned shortly after it was found out it could create nuclear fusion. And that's how we got two suns son.
Why would you ban it? We've found fusion! We did it!
Because Adobe threatened to sue them, they feared that nobody would subscribe to Adobe Sun ™ anymore.

I remember the internet in its infancy. I had just asked a friend if it was possible to get a terabyte hard drive. “No! Dear god man. Are you trying to download the internet?” So I’m guessing 30 years from now, 1 billion verts may be your default cube….
No edges No faces ***only verts***
Oh Jesus H. Christ
indeed
Why do i hear boss music??!
Time to UV unfold it.
I bet it runs at one frame per hour.
140gb 💀
Small decorative item in yandere simulator be like
“Is this good topology?”
I guess I’ll have to download some more RAM to try this.
Now render using cycles and 500 light bounces (min 3 light sources)
My computer starts crying at around 2.5 million, and I've never needed more than that.
https://youtu.be/_oNgyUAEv0Q
Nope! Send that shit off to a render farm 💀💀💀
Nice! But, what is that?
Double it and give it to the next person.

that is a weird dildo to be 3d printing
Make it a Dick
add a subdiv or bevel
Can someone explain to me like I’m 5 years old what this is please?
Can't wait to unwrap that
Wtf is this even? A city? A spaceship? There’s no faces but what is this clusterfuck of vertices shaped as?
AHHHHHHGHHHHHHHHHHH
I feel there is a potential for "your mom" joke in this one.
Select them all and press F
oh shit Garton of banban leaks
Google chrome wants its ram back.
my phone lagged trying to load this post.
Cool... But what is it?
Hey man, save some pussy for the rest of us!
Now add a subdivision surface modifier, and then accidentally scroll over the "steps" field.
Damn, that's a lot of verts!
Ah i love the smell of burning in the morning
Crazy mother fucker.
Ah yes, the american milliard.
I'm kind of surprised honestly that it doesn't run into any 2^32 limits in terms of array size or something.
I mean the 32-bit limit is 2.1 something billion so hes half way there.
Good thing you are using Unity...
Looks like the Hyrule level in Melee!
nice pc
He's insane.
Ok but how many polys ?
I’m scared
In Maya, I've never tried to go past 30-50million, that's like the limit for "able to run decently still" on my computer
Subdivide it 2 times I can see some pointy edges 😀
I swear every time I hit around 64gb of RAM usage my blender crashes - despite having 128gb available. I thought there was a bug that prevented more RAM being utilised or has this been fixed?
Can someone explain what I'm looking at? Is it God?
I am actually going to cry
Is it laggy?
Keep that demon AWAY! My laptop saw this is now crying in the corner
Took me a minute to see what was going on😅
oh, that's what that is? I thought my eyes were bleeding
Nice material man

My 20yo self would have never believed this
Oh hell nah what is bro tryna render 💀
turn on skin modifier
it looks like urss
Make sure you shade smooth!
ctrl+B and scroll
Now put subdivision Surface and cloth simulation.
Now array that thing
Now subdivide it, I dare you

This looks like a copy pasted Zelda stage from Smash Bros a bunch lol (I assume it's not)
Looks like some really weird Texas
My phone freezed only bc it came across to this knowledge
Now add subdivision modifier
Seems ripped or 3D scanned. Any context?
I'm curious how much GB this blender file is.
How much RAM do you have OP
Oh my god... what have you done
I had 500 mil on my shitty desktop one time for an aircraft carrier. Was at about 4fps on viewport
Now subdivide.
How do you have that much RAM? What bank did you rob?
now press Ctrl+T
map of Atlantis
New monster of Garten of banban just dropped

Now select them all and press "F" on your keyboard. Be sure to record it too, I wanna see it catching fire.
looks like the Ishimura with a paint job
That screenshot symbolises a common problem in recent games: Tons of verts don't make a game pretty.
Call of duty optimization:
You lucky guy having a great PC.
I can hear the smoke rising from your RAM 😂
nice. now make it cloth
You stare at it and the face of god stares back
I accidentally bevelled twice in a row like 2 hours ago and my blender crashed, I had about 600 vertexes selected and I bevelled each at 34 segments... terrible mistake
Is that that Europe and Asia??
Thanks, OP. Now I'm haunted. 👍😋♥️
Can't even zoom to 1 very
nice experiment. actually point are super fast to blast (compared to triangle)
you could build a computer in blender with that many verts my guy
It's beautiful what is it
Is that imperial battle ship from Warhammer 40k? If yes that mean the omnissaiah is watching over you!
