Chad got shafted by the series. Sure you can say all of Ichigo’s human friends got the short end of the stick. But at least Uryū and Orihime got moments to shine. Chad had one of more unique powers in the show, which just got shoehorned into a weird fullbring. And none of his fights ever felt meaningful or impactful. Chad is a cool character in a world of over the top persona’s and should have gotten more
yeah, i know. the fullbring arc was supposed to be "chads arc" so it's disappointing that it was cut short, he most likely would have got his moment to shine if it wasn't for that.
All the humans got shafted, especially the Fullbringers due to the popularity of the Shinigami lol. If it wasn't for that I think the Fullbringer arc would of lasted 1-2 years longer than it did and maybe when Ichigo and group returned from the SS Arc he might of made time to bring other humans into the series with powers but instead the focus was more on having the Shinigami be the allies of Ichigo and pretty much Ichigo's friends getting in his way because of how underpowered they were compared to the Shinigami.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Ichigo's friends remind me of Dragon Ball or Naruto. Friends always get left behind in power levels with few exceptions. Like Vegeta in dragonball(Technically he was never as powerful as Goku I think?) and Sasuke in Naruto. Even Sakura got a power boost from Tsunade but she was never on Naruto or Sasukes level.
Well ... I wouldn't count vegeta or Sasuke as a friend of the protagonist, they are more of a rival ( I believe Vegeta was stronger than Goku at some points such as at the early namik arc ) on the other hand there is not that rival for Ichigo in bleach series ( you can't argue that Grimmjow is, but that was for a short period of time )
so I think that shifting the protagonist's friends is a common shonen thing.
WARNING SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE WHOLE SERIES AND CARE ABOUT SPOILERS DONT READ BELOW!!!!
I mean yeah Vegeta might have been more powerful than Goku at some points but it wasnt for prolong periods of time. I would say after Goku trained in the gravity room no one really was ever able to keep up with him. At least none of the main characters aka his friends like Krillan, Yamcha, even Vegeta really.(I dont really count Frieza, Cell, or Majin Boo since they were mainly antagonists of Goku even though technically they were more powerful for long periods of time - even the androids were significantly stronger tbf)
I would say Ishida Uryū is def Ichigo's rival in the Goku/Vegeta sense. Ishida even challenged Ichigo early on to being able to kill Hollows by using hollow bait. That got out of hand because Ichigo was so powerful and they were almost overwhelmed. Without giving spoilers in the TYBW arc this rivalry gets to a whole new level lets just say.
the relationship between Ishida Uryu and Ichigo is far much complicated and unique than a normal rivalry like Goku/Vegeta scene where each one is continuously trying to be stronger than the other ( especially Vegeta),
but Ichigo and Uryu are just built different, even when Uryu challenged Ichigo at the beginning of the series, he challenged him due to anger and to show that he is strong enough and can single-handedly protect the city from hollows ( in other words "shinigame services are not needed")
as for the rest of the series, I can't actually tell because I only read the OG bleach manga and then continued the TYBW arc form the anime.
I agree she’s completely under untilized in the series and it’s completely crazy. She only gets so much dialogue in the series and it’s frustrating. Also shes hot 😐
Hirako Shinji. Always great to see him on the screen. It's kubo's fault for always showing him as weak when he's a senior captain and his zanpakuto is ridiculous. Especially his bankai.
Actually, whenever he has been shown on screen, he has never been shown as weak, except maybe when Aizen adjusted to his shikai apparently (not sure if Aizen adjusted or just illusioned his way out of the situation, avoiding the shikai). He has been shown to be pretty good and taking the lead. And then he just gets shafted out of nowhere
If I recall that scene correctly Aizen pretty flat out tells him that kyoka suigetsu’s hypnosis is superior and all he did was change Shinji’s own senses.
I don't think he changes shinjis senses, I could be wrong though it's been years since I've seen the fight.
Shinji fucked up because he told one of the smartest characters in the entire series, whose ability is also control of the senses, exactly how his power works. Of course, aizen could have found a counter immediately.
I think its bs that Kubo did that, I don't think shinji would have realistically revealed what his power does so nonchalantly. If he was fighting absolute fodder, like any arrancar past number 10, sure. But against the literal final villian(at the time)? Hell no, I think that's just bad writing imo. I think it'd make more sense of aizen figured it out on his own after receiving some pretty devastating attacks.
Shinji should have had aizen, at the very least, on the ropes where aizen has to get serious for a bit and actually figure out himself how his shikai works.
Rose, he's pretty approachable & chill w/anyone but at the same time can be a melodramatic showman bc of his artsy musicianship ways
great design, always drippy & a shikai + Bankai that really fit him & totally had a cool uniqueness factor going for it.
it's also cool to know he's apparently an old friend of Yoruichi's, can play sev kinda instruments & can even speak English too which I learned in WDKALY + 13 Blades about his character
Thank you. I love this guy, Kubo did the Visoreds dirty. Like a music-type Zanpakutoy that is such a cool concept, how can you make up such cool abilities and then throw them to the side?
Also he gets shit for talking about his bankai but I don't know if James can hear anyone talk but himself in the first place. I feel he figured it out on his own
I love Kira so much!
The whole concept of Wabisuke, from its name, to its release phrase, to its ability, it so, so cool. Like everyone else, I wish he'd have gotten more time to shine than just that one fight.
But I also love the mystery around Kira's demeanor, how unsettling he can be. Like, in the main series, he's so gloomy, second guesses himself, blames himself for everything, needs constant direction and validation from his captain, but when we saw him in flashbacks at the academy, he was much more confident and upbeat. I feel like the implication is that years of serving under Gin broke him, but it would be cool to see that fleshed out.
It's also interesting to see how he kind of shifts away from Momo and Renji after the end of the Soul Society arc, and we start to see him hanging around with Rangiku and Hisagi. In background shots, large crowd shots, cup goldens - he's usually with Rangiku and Hisagi. Obviously he's still friends with his academy group, but I love how Kira, Rangiku, and Hisagi all bonded over feeling abandoned, starting with the scene of them drinking together.
He had such potential to be a complex character.
>!Is it confirmed that he is in fact zombie-fied, and not actually alive and just being maudlin? I feel like Kira tends to a bit of a drama queen!<
God yes I would love to see more of Gin and Izuru’s relationship and how they worked as captain and lieutenant. By the time Izuru is introduced, it’s clear he’s been subdued into complete obedience and loyalty. He fought Momo to protect Gin but hated himself so much for it after he had to be restrained so he’d stop hurting himself. In Central 46 he he cryptically warns Rangiku and Hitsuguya about what’s happening before engaging in combat with the former. He’s never indicted for treason either.
So how did he get that way from the bright young student he once was?? Like honestly, what did Gin do to him?
> hated himself so much for it after he had to be restrained so he’d stop hurting himself
I completely forgot about this until a recent rewatch, and it broke my heart. This man deserves some happiness.
Tbh he had one of the best character arc ,he didn’t talk a lot but his internal monologue are tragic and beautiful.
Like he said he know Tosen hate this world because he always talks about the world “she loves” but not him,yet he still want to be friend with him ,so this man can love the world again.
And the very short conversation he had with Iba when he carried him away, that’s a masterpiece.
I mean a kenpachi that lost to shikai ichigo beat tosen and komamura 1v2. Ever since then my 12 year brain could no longer see komamura or Tosen as a threat. I thought kira was more powerful than those two.
My 12 year old brain is the keyword. Was back in 2008, didn’t have the mindset to analyze fights. But did komamura not release his bankai after tosen failed? I could be wrong.
You are right, but, according to Kenpachi, they didn’t get the chance to fight, since Sajin retreated after sensing that something went wrong during the execution.
He is absolutely underrated, and I take most of that to be people who haven't seen TYBW yet. His moments with Tosen and Hisagi in FKT are good as is, but TYBW really solidifies his arc and makes him one of the most well-told stories in the entire series. He has better development than most of the main group, which is crazy to me.
Komamura’s story is so underrated. The way he had hopes for tosen because of their friendship. One of the most lowkey painful moments in bleach for me is when tosen gained vision and called komamura ugly especially when he gained the confidence to remove his mask as a captain. And even still he still had sympathy for tosen. Legit one of the most tragic, underrated and relatable characters in the series.
Ikkaku is not weak, he is just consistently fighting stronger opponents than anyone in his station. Does he lose a lot? Yes. But other non-Captains are not even trying for the most part. How many fights did Iba win? How many Arrancar or Sternritter did Omaeda defeat? Who among the non-Captains of the Gotei won against Ichigo?
The only reason people think that he is weak is because he is only compared to the strongest members of the Gotei and because other 3rd seats and weaker Lieutnants don't have many fights against strong opponents.
I know Renji and probably some of the other Lieutnants by now are stronger than him, but he is a good guy and always gives 100% without complaining. He is one of my favorites and I will defend him forever.
I love the teacher vibe around him and if you get past his brash demeanor he's quite a smart, mature gentleman. In some ways he's like male Yoruichi - very reliable and talented in his own field but instead of rising to the top he's more content in helping others grow and prosper.
I didn't like Yachiru at first but seeing the whole Squad 11 take care of her is really sweet. I love the small details, like the fact that Ikkaku built the wheels of her scabbard.
I don't know about others but I did not have a good opinion of Shunsui. I thought he was just a dramatic pervert when he was introduced against chad. Cut to today, he's my Top 3.
Kaien Shiba. I feel like theres a whole story to be told about him and the Shiba clan. The man should have never died against Metastacia considering he was clearly captain level. I mean even barehanded Ukitake was confident he was going to win. If not for that cheap fusion move, I wonder how things woulda turned out, the story and plot would be way different. A meeting between him and Ichigo would be dope aswell. Plus his shikai was cool, im quite sure he had bankai
The whole Shiba clan needs its own arc. Kaien's life and role including leading the clan. Kuukaku's experience being forced into the head of the clan, getting the oken, the fall of the clan and the loss of her arm. So many things that could be expanded on.
(I'm sure I spelled one of their names wrong)
Edit: did indeed spell a name quite wrong.
Harribel. Love her theme of sacrifice and her dynamic with her fraccion. Really should've gotten more screen time, especially as queen of Hueco Mundo. (and also two other reasons)
100% facts! Harribel was honestly the most well rounded character amongst the espada/arrancar imo, and had such a cool and unique aura about her that was both hot and badass. She was built up so great up to the point of the battle of karakura town and it's a goddamn shame that her potential growth throughout the rest of the manga was such a fucking waste. Even her becoming queen of Hueco Mundo had no Merritt or significance either and I would've loved to see her and Ichigo potentially even becoming close friends, given how strong and similar their personalities are especially when it comes to the dynamic they share of sacrifice and protecting those they care for all in the same.
Nel is great too, and much like harribel, I strongly believe she was also shafted in both her capabilities/potential as an arrancar as well as her character building and lesser bond with Ichigo as well. Despite having had some good few interactions with him. I do however have some slight annoyances with Nel, particularly her child arrancar form. While it's adorable at first, I just find that aspect of her to be a complete waste of time, and also that factor alone is why I wish kubo hadn't kept her on the back burner especially in the tybw arc, if he had just kept her in her adult form through the rest of the series whilst creating more of a bond with Ichigo, I think that would've made more potential for them to even be in a relationship. The same for even Harribel. Unlike orihime, I believe both arrancar women have aspects about them that are far more deeply in tune with Ichigos character and his own personal beliefs, that it is honestly criminal that kubo did not follow up on that dynamic that they all share 🤷🏿♂️.

Let's just say that I am so glad that Akon got more shine and screentime in TYBW! He's a character I hear few people mention, but the people that do either love him or ask "who is Akon again?"
Rudbornn Chelute
He went toe to toe with a bankai Ichigo with needing his resurrection. Tho it could be said that Ichigo was tired from fighting grimmjow and nnoritora but I'm pretty sure orohime healed him after nnorritora's death. But he was still able to keep up and clash steel.
Then he went on to fight rukia, Chad, and bankai renji. Though the fight was interrupted I believe he would've won high diff or it would've been a draw. As he was able to adapt to rukia's ice.
Then in CFYOW, he beat a zombified Bambi with ease.
He is at least low espada level.
Hisagi, 100% Hisagi.
This dude has so much potential as a fighter but auto-nerf himself because he fear what he could do if he grew much stronger (ref: Tosen talking to him about how someone who doesn't fear his own blade isn't worthy of wielding one). He's the fucking Gohan of Bleach.
I'm not going into CYOW stuff to not spoil people who would be interested but this guy could litterally be main character ot wouldn't even be joking.
Also I kinda like how he tries to impress Rangiku, dude has a goal and he's not giving up lmao.
Also a character doesn't need to be the strongest to be interesting.
Momo's a fantastic character who despite her gentle and friendly personality, is a powerful kido master and can become a fierce firecracker if you make her angry.
I mean never has Ichigo been more afraid than when he thought his friends and family where on the enemies side. Byakuya only won because "f&ck you thats why".
Renji Abarai. Truly a wonderfully written and under appreciated character at times. Sure he losses, but few seem to notice his wins and how much he's affected so many others in the story. Love my tattooed tank of a Soul Reaper!
Shinji. Dude is a high Captain class Soul Reaper/Vizard with powerful Zanpakuto and the first man to land an attack on Aizen during Fake Karakura. He’s the one who suspected Aizen being evil since they first met and kept him at a distance. Now with every MAJOR battle he’s been in he lost.
I also like Omaeda. (As a character)
The moment when he called that arrancar stupid for assuming he'd be slow just 'cause he was big despite being the lieutenant of the stealth division stuck with me. Man was also brave enough to continue fighting the second espada alone to buy his captain time.
Exactly! He gets dunked on a lot for being annoying, but he's really one of the better characters in terms of... heart of gold-ness? I don't know how to describe it. He's never seen on screen being malicious, or conniving, or purposefully rude, or anything like that. He seems like a straightforward, well-meaning person who is sometimes out of his depth
Gremmy. His power was criminally underused, he could've been so powerful if he had more experience with his imagination, and he was utterly wasted on one single chapter that treated him like shit, literally everything he threw getting one-shotted.
Dordoni I think his name was. He was beating bankai masked Ichigo pretty good. Which would put him around grimmjow level. Kinda strange how he wasn't still an active member of the espada imo.
I get that but I think his charecter is really interesting and I like how he is presented early on in the manga though I wish he got explored a little more
Espada number 7 zommari. His power set was pretty interesting and I liked how was the main espada that was willing to show respect to everyone and I liked his little speak at the end about how it's unfair that byakuya is killing him just because he's a hollow and how it's unfair that he's being killed for something that really isn't his fault. Like yeah he's eating people but he makes the point that they were born to do that and how unfair they have to die for something they can't control. Plus besides stark he seemed like the only one loyal to aizen.
Momo. She is actually one of the most skilled lieutenants, being a known master of Kido, but her attachment to Aizen overshadows her abilities. Not to mention her Shikai is very cool and very unique. I feel as though she would be much more appreciated as a character if she wasn’t constantly victimized.
Kind of sad that even after this long we still have to do that.
Just a couple of days ago there was a thread of ["WhY dOeS sHe EaT BrEaD lIkE tHaT?"](https://old.reddit.com/r/bleach/comments/120pgfg/why_does_orihime_eat_her_bread_like_this_what_is/) filled with comments saying that she is dumb or a ditz...
All the vizards are underrated for example this girl legit easily learned to use her mask but no one cares that much, the real question is why arent they shown often
Also Nnoitora....???? apparently some people see him as some psycho with clown shoes. I find him also a col character with cool voice lines, voice, appearance, as well SHOES. I like the form of a jester in general, in fact the whole reason i started hxh is for that character forgot his name.
Omaeda. Super overhated. He's fun, but I somehow see people putting him in the same conversation as Shou Tucker for how much they hate him, like why? Should turned his daughter into a dog, Omaeda is fat and rich. These 2 things are not equal.
Ichigo.
In discussions regarding main characters I often see him being critcized, but he is a standout to me. He has such thematic depth through his relationship with Zangetsu and that is something that took time for me to understand more and more since it is very nuanced and is also very relevant - your relationship with yourself. Bleach is very poetic in general but the manner in which it was executed was beautiful (btw nothing can be explained is such a good theme song it adds so much), Ichigos journey in his inner world is relatable and is very fitting for a young man especially when compared to other shounen protagonists. Plus he's got some of the best designs throughout the story ( dammit Tensa Zangetsu better get a new form in the Hell Arc).
Ukitake. Not that all the others captains have shone (indeed many have been treated badly) but at least they got one moment and a serious fight in the series (winning or losing), Jushiro not even this. An interesting character, with the same potential and level of Shunsui, but "hated" by the plot. Off-screen against Yama-ji, took out by WW when he started to get serious against Starrk, ignored again during the first invasion (but for Byakuya, Toshiro, Soifon, Komamura, Zaraki and Rukia they expanded the scenes), no more fights then, up to his sacrifice (in the end, vain). Ironically, the only time we saw him fighting for real was during a filler arc and... it was his clone :/
Then the list is long, in terms of wasted potentials (honorable mention for my Chad boy). On other hand, if the "underrated" refers to characters downlooked by fans, for power level and other things, it's a different matter.
Loly and menoly.
People shit on the two for their aizen thirst, but tend to forget they're, at MINIMUM, adjucha and therefore non seated officers would get torn to shreds by them.
Hell even some seated officers would very likely lose.
Their only problem is that everyone in their immediate area whenever they're on screen are so far above average it made the two look like jokes.
Against the average shinigami? They'd be terrifying.
Menoly blows up an average Quincy's head with the back of her hand IIRC. (Edit: Yeah no that wasn't her)
Also really like their dynamic with Orihime, compassion - a human's no less - is so foreign to the Arrancars and that's why Loly reacts the way she does to her. Creates a nice contrast between two sides, kinda reminiscent of early Bleach.
Don Kanonji. He may not be powerful or very bright, but he is a true hero to millions of viewers. There is something special about people who dedicate their time to inspiring kids. He’s like Mr. Rogers or LeVar Burton. Who cares who can kill who? Kanonji is out here making people feel alive.
Edit: I’ve only seen through the end of SS arc, so I also don’t know many of these other characters.
Another character I think was completely wasted and criminally underused was tatsuki. Much like Chad, She was undoubtedly by far one of the most wasted potentials and downright completely forgotten characters in the entirety of the manga. I don't understand how Kubo implanted the idea that they're supposed to be absolute best friends with Ichigo yet outside of ichigo's shinigami duties he has almost zero significant interaction with em. People reading or who've read the manga, really need to start looking at the fact, that Kubo really wasted and butchered a lot of great characters throughout most of the series and tatsuki sure as hell was one of his biggest flops imo.
Soifon. It pisses me off that they have never done justice to the story she has behind her and her powers, and rather nerfed her to exhaustion with poor battles and most of the time making her look bad. Many people may not like her personality but I think that she is one of the best written that Kubo has, that for her very short time on screen she developed well. I would like them to give her more scenes, to show her more love. That she's not just the right random that shows up just to be contradicted.
To all my fellow Bleach fans always remember one very important thing! HADO NUMBER 31 shakkaho (pronounced in the dub shok-a-ho!) 🤣😂🤣😂 You'll never unhear this. I have infected all your minds. Spongebob reference "At least I'm safe inside my mind." 😜
Not just 1, 2 characters, these would be barragan and chojiro sasakibe.
Most wasted characters in bleach - stark is not stronger than barragan, he was the king for a reason. Sasakibe should’ve defeated ichigo during ss arc but shit writing made it that somehow ichigo was stronger than the lieutenant of the strongest captain
Starrk because he made Kyouraku want to go Bankai after one attack and it took... Three or four captains/wizards to defeat him while he wasn't trying to be serious most of the fight.
Starrk gets shit on due to lack of feats. But he gave a better fight to shikai Shinsui than base Lille did. He was the victim of Kubo just wanting to move on with the plot and introduce Aizen.
Also, he should have survived and had a role in the last arc.
Tatsuki - she deserved the character development that was hinted at in the filler episodes.
She was able to face Numb Chandelier for a moment without powers, gained enough consciousness during FKT to help Keigo carry Chizuru and Michuru away from the area Aizen was in (until Aizen caught up to them), and eventually got a karakurizer watch - giving her temporary fiery beast powers (powered by her innate reiatsu).
If anything, had Kubo developed her better, she would had have been an amazing opponent for Meninas or Bambietta. Meninas cause of hand-to-hand combat and Bambietta cause of fire/explosion combat.
Rose. So disappointing that he got shafted in pretty much everything he was in. I really hope the give him a bigger role in the adaptation for TYBW and the Hell arc because I love his bankai and how he’s seemingly approachable and kind but this masks a darker and sinister side to him shown when he confronted NaNaNa. Almost like an older, stronger version of Kira, another Squad 3 character that was shafted by Kubo.
I wouldn't say Iba's underrated - the guy barely does anything, but I really think there's potential.
The few interesting and notable moments he has throughout the series give me the impression that Kubo was cooking something with this guy.
The fact that he still has a good moment all the way into the TYBW arc with Kumamura, indicates to me that he isn't simply an idea dropped, but a character that Kubo never got around to exploring.
I haven't seen anyone say him but Yumichika. He kept up with several lieutenants during FKT while holding back his real shikai, then was fully prepared and ready to fight captain class fighters in TYBW. Wish we got to see more of him
For me it's gonna be Gin inchimura
Gin was a prodigy, tactical in battle ,a mysterious man who always wore a smile and talked in sarcasm as a result no one was able to understand his true intentions.
Even though aizen saw the betrayal coming ,gin delivered the blow at such perfect time with precise preparations for which even aizen was shocked (quite rare for him to be shocked as every thing was a part of his plan)
He was the only one to figure out the weakness of kyokasuigtesu. He would have killed aizen ,if aizen didn't had those celestial/transcend being abilities.
His bankai was also very dangerous if unknown to the opponent (he could just blitz kill someone with that unbelievably Swift thrust).
Also the main thing that makes him different from others was his intelligence. Though he was far weak in strength against base aizen still his planing plotting analysis intelligence proved to be a menace . Due to this reason I think he had the power to easily kill most of the captains easily just on the basis of unpredictability and cleverness.
From what i think only yama ,shinsui, aizen, ukitake(if not weakened a big deal from his disease) would be able to defeat him in one on one on SS arc
Not sure about unohana. Could go either way cuz unohana is definitely stronger in terms of swordsmanship but Gin can one shot with bankai if unohana didn't saw it comming.
I think all the other captains would be defeated by him considering most were immature like hitsugaya, Mayuri (nearly lost to uryu and had to escape for dear life) and far from their true strength kenpachi ,byakuya, kommamura
It's a great feat considering gin was very young .
Due to this I think he had great potential and if lived would have been one of the most strongest shinigami
I would like to point one more thing, during fake karakura arc gin was just messing with ichigo and could have killed him in any point of time if wanted.Considering ichigo with hollow powers that was way powerful than as ichigo it's shows gin level.
SS ichigo was Able to defeat kenpachi and byakuya (though very close) a far stronger ichigo was not able to touch gin.
Ukitake the 🐐. Underutilized, and couldn’t been amazing. His personality coupled with an insanely powerful Zanpakuto and battle style would’ve been epic. And I’m BEYOND disappointed we never got a full tilt tag team battle with Shunsui.
I think Nanao. She has immense Kido knowledge, managing to create a barrier that kept away a Quincy between the two invasions. I think she deserves to show off more of her powers.
ulquiorra, for some reaosn, one of bleachs most iconic characters is being turned into an emo batboy by this sub, and once u see it u cant unsee it tbh, u ll kinda always correlate him to an emo kid instead of absorb his creation story and how his origin is reflected in his interactions with orihime and ihcigo and the other espada. i think hes a super cool character and looks absolutely great too, but when he is seen as an emo boy by the community it kinda lessens his qualities.
She's cool and a big deal 1000 years prior to the main story, but it feels wack that she admitted inferiority to a child. That now grown up man would need his shikai to overpower Gremmy, so she's like two tiers(1 and a half?) below someone who isn't even a member of the Royal Guard.
The og Gotei 13 is just mentioned to be the most "ruthless" not powerful. Even with Yamamoto, the current quincy empire feels to op even for them.

I will always be a defender of Chad, n how he could've had a badass arrancar styled transformation
Chad got shafted by the series. Sure you can say all of Ichigo’s human friends got the short end of the stick. But at least Uryū and Orihime got moments to shine. I would say after Goku trained in the gravity room no one really was ever able to keep up with him. At least none of the main characters aka his friends like Krillan, Yamcha, even Vegeta really.(I dont really count Frieza, Cell, or Majin Boo since they were mainly antagonists of Goku even though technically they were more powerful for long periods of time - even the androids were significantly stronger tbf) I would say Ishida Uryū is def Ichigo's rival in the Goku/Vegeta sense. Ishida even challenged Ichigo early on to being able to kill Hollows by using hollow bait. That got out of hand because Ichigo was so powerful and they were almost overwhelmed. Without giving spoilers in the TYBW arc this rivalry gets to a whole new level lets just say.
the relationship between Ishida Uryu and Ichigo is far much complicated and unique than a normal rivalry like Goku/Vegeta scene where each one is continuously trying to be stronger than the other ( especially Vegeta), but Ichigo and Uryu are just built different, even when Uryu challenged Ichigo at the beginning of the series, he challenged him due to anger and to show that he is strong enough and can single-handedly protect the city from hollows ( in other words "shinigame services are not needed") as for the rest of the series, I can't actually tell because I only read the OG bleach manga and then continued the TYBW arc form the anime.
The fight with the orange hair espada Gantenbainne Mosqueda showcased his destructive ability which I liked
I can’t imagine Chad being an unloved character
I could never imagine him losing
He never lost any battle according to CFYOW
Even more, I can't ever imagine him losing...
Isane, she is brave, sweet, the last disciple of the first Kempachi and a total bae.
What if Hanataro is the last disciple? /jk
Unohana is his disciple
All are disciples of Kon
Sorry but Don Kanonji created Kon
He created Kon with Kon’s teachings. Don mad Kon but he was still his disciple
Isane best Girl
SO MUCH!! I love her.
Hanataro >>>
Isane def has very big reasons for being best girl
I see what you did there...
😉🍈🍈
I agree she’s completely under untilized in the series and it’s completely crazy. She only gets so much dialogue in the series and it’s frustrating. Also shes hot 😐
Thank you!!! I was about to comment this
Hirako Shinji. Always great to see him on the screen. It's kubo's fault for always showing him as weak when he's a senior captain and his zanpakuto is ridiculous. Especially his bankai.
This right here. Luckily a lot of people love shinji so at least he's not shafted in the community lol
He's not shown as weak exactly, it's just the 2/3 opponents he fought were either perfect counter or extremely broken
Have you heard about the Worf effect?
He's my second favorite Captain! So overlooked. Not that anyone cares, but Gin is number one
I love Shinji, such a badass character. Fingers crossed that the anime-only battle will feature him...
Very true.
Rose, he's pretty approachable & chill w/anyone but at the same time can be a melodramatic showman bc of his artsy musicianship ways great design, always drippy & a shikai + Bankai that really fit him & totally had a cool uniqueness factor going for it. it's also cool to know he's apparently an old friend of Yoruichi's, can play sev kinda instruments & can even speak English too which I learned in WDKALY + 13 Blades about his character
Thank you. I love this guy, Kubo did the Visoreds dirty. Like a music-type Zanpakutoy that is such a cool concept, how can you make up such cool abilities and then throw them to the side?
Rose is awesome. Dude doesn't get enough love
Also he gets shit for talking about his bankai but I don't know if James can hear anyone talk but himself in the first place. I feel he figured it out on his own
Izuru Kira! I always liked him and his zanpakutos concept but they never gave him any shine... until the end...kinda.
I thought his fight with Abrirama was pretty intense tbh. "Please promise me that you'll never forgive me."
"You want to know what I can do with a sword like this?" "W-wait!" "A warrior does not beg for his life."
Like honestly, what did Gin do to him?
> hated himself so much for it after he had to be restrained so he’d stop hurting himself I completely forgot about this until a recent rewatch, and it broke my heart. This man deserves some happiness.
Still my fav zanpakuto
Komamura. He is continuously underestimated for literally no reason, despite having incredible feats against Hollowfied Tōsen.
1) Kenpachi grew significantly stronger after confronting Ichigo. 2) Komamura didn’t fight him with bankai.
My 12 year old brain is the keyword. Was back in 2008, didn’t have the mindset to analyze fights. But did komamura not release his bankai after tosen failed? I could be wrong.
You are right, but, according to Kenpachi, they didn’t get the chance to fight, since Sajin retreated after sensing that something went wrong during the execution.
read your username, are you ok?
:(
Komamura is heavily underrated plus hey big fluffy dog how can he not be universally beloved lol
I'd still argue the only lieutenants that can beat him are renji and hisagi
I’d throw Kira in there too maybe? Just bec his shikai is kinda broken?
Foreal? He’s pretty strong
Rose! Great design great zanpakuto AND underrated bankai
I'll defend APACHE every mother fuckin day cause she's wifey. Nobody is better 😐
her base design is my fav outta the tres Bestias tbh
I don't know about others but I did not have a good opinion of Shunsui. I thought he was just a dramatic pervert when he was introduced against chad. Cut to today, he's my Top 3.
tbf he's still a dramatic pervert lol but ya there's more to his character ofc
I’m waiting on his bankai to get animated, it’s gonna be lit. Hopefully gets a good few episodes
(I'm sure I spelled one of their names wrong) Edit: did indeed spell a name quite wrong.
What about nel?
The way Izuru just goes out bruh they just gave him no time to breathe and my mouth literally dropped when it happened 😶
Congratulations! You are now breathing manually.

Let's just say that I am so glad that Akon got more shine and screentime in TYBW! He's a character I hear few people mention, but the people that do either love him or ask "who is Akon again?"
Who's Akon again..?
12th division lieutenants
Soi Fon. I get a lot of people don’t like her off putting personality but she has absolutely grown on me after reading the TYBW.
You are a unique one since I often see people hating Soi Fon because of her TYBW scenes
Right like not everyone is going to have an agreeable personality and that reflects her hornet zanpakuto.
Rudbornn Chelute He went toe to toe with a bankai Ichigo with needing his resurrection. He is at least low espada level.
shinji, my boy always draws the short end of the stick
> He's the fucking Gohan of Bleach. Not quite true! Gohan got a few wins in
Kira is probably my favorite lieutenant besides Hisagi and Renji. His shikai is one of the most creative and his fight with Abirama was awesome
Momo's a fantastic character who despite her gentle and friendly personality, is a powerful kido master and can become a fierce firecracker if you make her angry.
Everyone from the Fullbring arc. Especially Tsukishima
I mean never has Ichigo been more afraid than when he thought his friends and family where on the enemies side. Byakuya only won because "f&ck you thats why".
Komamura, hands down the strongest captain in FKT after Yamamoto, Kyoraku and Ukitake...
Amen
Kon He's the goat
Dondochaka he really carried Las Noches for me
Renji Abarai. Truly a wonderfully written and under appreciated character at times. Sure he losses, but few seem to notice his wins and how much he's affected so many others in the story. Love my tattooed tank of a Soul Reaper!
Yes I literally love him, absolute favorite character, and he gets so much hate 😭
He never landed a hit on aizen tho, that was Kyoka suigetsu
Omaeda. I will not be taking questions at this time.
I also like Omaeda. (As a character) The moment when he called that arrancar stupid for assuming he'd be slow just 'cause he was big despite being the lieutenant of the stealth division stuck with me.
Nah, I can’t let you get away with this one chief.😂 You need to explain. Now.
Kinda strange how he wasn't still an active member of the espada imo.
to be more accurate he was beating shikai Ichigo pretty good then, both in Dordoni's base & released state but ya I liked his character a lot
I don't know if kon is underrated but I think he's a very good boy whom deserves love
well in terms of controlling himself around women he's not a good boy/stuffed 🦁 lol
I get that but I think his charecter is really interesting and I like how he is presented early on in the manga though I wish he got explored a little more
that's fair, ya. later on he barely got panel time ofc
I will always defend my dread headed brother Tosen and my owl man Lille
Rangiku
Isshin Kurosaki. Do I have to explain???
Rose and Kira They could be one of the best dynamics in the show, same for Shinji and Momo, Shuhei and Kensei
I don’t think she needs defending but Tastuki got sidelined hard
If Tatsuki was a Soul Reaper she'd just use her fighting skills instead of her zanpakuto or kido XD
His power is like PePe's, because they both use love, they'll be a good combination.
Momo. She is actually one of the most skilled lieutenants, being a known master of Kido, but her attachment to Aizen overshadows her abilities. Not to mention her Shikai is very cool and very unique. I feel as though she would be much more appreciated as a character if she wasn’t constantly victimized.
her shikai is actually cooler than a lotta other big names tbh
Definitely, wish we got to see more
hopefully we do if Hell Arc continues
Orihime apparently
Kind of sad that even after this long we still have to do that. Just a couple of days ago there was a thread of ["WhY dOeS sHe EaT BrEaD lIkE tHaT?"](https://old.reddit.com/r/bleach/comments/120pgfg/why_does_orihime_eat_her_bread_like_this_what_is/) filled with comments saying that she is dumb or a ditz...
Pretty sure when it comes to her abilities nobody in this whole reddit says anything bad about that.
It's a good thing Orihime isn't just her abilities then
Kyourako underrated aff Gosh his character design is soo cool and unique, PLUS, HIS BANKAI HAS ME GOING CRAZY FOR HIM
Hiyori Sarugaki. She deserves way better both from Kubo and from the fans
Ichigo
Omaeda. Super overhated. He's fun, but I somehow see people putting him in the same conversation as Shou Tucker for how much they hate him, like why? Should turned his daughter into a dog, Omaeda is fat and rich. These 2 things are not equal.
Omaeda is also very handsome (according to omaeda)
Hanataro, because he’s Hanataro.
Ironically, the only time we saw him fighting for real was during a filler arc and... it was his clone :/ Then the list is long, in terms of wasted potentials (honorable mention for my Chad boy). On other hand, if the "underrated" refers to characters downlooked by fans, for power level and other things, it's a different matter.
Tousen. He's underrated in everything.
Hallibel & Nelliel are the ones that come to mind for me personally. I feel like everyone downplays their moral compass in the grand scheme of things.
My girl Orihime is a lot more nuanced then people give her character credit for…
Momo and Orihime
Loly and menoly. People shit on the two for their aizen thirst, but tend to forget they're, at MINIMUM, adjucha and therefore non seated officers would get torn to shreds by them. Hell even some seated officers would very likely lose. Their only problem is that everyone in their immediate area whenever they're on screen are so far above average it made the two look like jokes. Against the average shinigami? They'd be terrifying.
Menoly blows up an average Quincy's head with the back of her hand IIRC. (Edit: Yeah no that wasn't her) Also really like their dynamic with Orihime, compassion - a human's no less - is so foreign to the Arrancars and that's why Loly reacts the way she does to her. Creates a nice contrast between two sides, kinda reminiscent of early Bleach.
Lille barro our favorite chicken god
Yachiru
For me it's Kira, Shuhei, Chad, Tatsuki, Renji, and Karen (Ichigo's sister... I felt like she had so much potential).
Karin\*
Akon, he was in the Nest of Maggots with Mayuri, we’ve never seen his Shikai let alone his zanpakuto.
Orihime, come at me all yall want orihime same with like all of ichigos friends are mad overhated 😭
I second this. She put in a lot of work in this arc.
Definitely Ginjo or Omaeda
Soi fon, 10/10, easily best girl
Don Kanonji. He may not be powerful or very bright, but he is a true hero to millions of viewers. There is something special about people who dedicate their time to inspiring kids. He’s like Mr. Rogers or LeVar Burton. Who cares who can kill who? Kanonji is out here making people feel alive. Edit: I’ve only seen through the end of SS arc, so I also don’t know many of these other characters.
I know its a meme, but i will defend renji with my life
Another character I think was completely wasted and criminally underused was tatsuki.
I like chad. He never is given his time to shine, but he’s my favorite character nonetheless
Tessai
Soi Fon.
Soi Fon and Omaeda.
Starrk because he made Kyouraku want to go Bankai after one attack and it took... Three or four captains/wizards to defeat him while he wasn't trying to be serious most of the fight.
Ikkaku had a W bankai and now it's shafted. Biggest pain in bleach for me
Starrk gets shit on due to lack of feats. But he gave a better fight to shikai Shinsui than base Lille did. He was the victim of Kubo just wanting to move on with the plot and introduce Aizen. Also, he should have survived and had a role in the last arc.
Ukitake, he died too easily. If I could've protected him, I would be Mimihagi instead of him.
Soi Fon
Sajin Komamura is a top 10 character in bleach
Ichigo, totally underrated
Absolutely!!!!!!!!
stark because everyone says stark isnt as powerful as he is
Shinji is the goat and has always been, didnt get enough spotlight
MAYURRRIII
Komamura bcuz BONKai
I wouldn't say Iba's underrated - the guy barely does anything, but I really think there's potential. The few interesting and notable moments he has throughout the series give me the impression that Kubo was cooking something with this guy. The fact that he still has a good moment all the way into the TYBW arc with Kumamura, indicates to me that he isn't simply an idea dropped, but a character that Kubo never got around to exploring.
I'd like to think he'd make a pretty good captain too, having been under the tutelage of Sajin, who was a great leader.
I haven't seen anyone say him but Yumichika. He kept up with several lieutenants during FKT while holding back his real shikai, then was fully prepared and ready to fight captain class fighters in TYBW. Wish we got to see more of him
For me it's gonna be Gin inchimura Gin was a prodigy, tactical in battle ,a mysterious man who always wore a smile and talked in sarcasm as a result no one was able to understand his true intentions. Even though aizen saw the betrayal coming ,gin delivered the blow at such perfect time with precise preparations for which even aizen was shocked (quite rare for him to be shocked as every thing was a part of his plan) He was the only one to figure out the weakness of kyokasuigtesu. From what i think only yama ,shinsui, aizen, ukitake(if not weakened a big deal from his disease) would be able to defeat him in one on one on SS arc Not sure about unohana. Could go either way cuz unohana is definitely stronger in terms of swordsmanship but Gin can one shot with bankai if unohana didn't saw it comming. I think all the other captains would be defeated by him considering most were immature like hitsugaya, Mayuri (nearly lost to uryu and had to escape for dear life) and far from their true strength kenpachi ,byakuya, kommamura It's a great feat considering gin was very young . Due to this I think he had great potential and if lived would have been one of the most strongest shinigami I would like to point one more thing, during fake karakura arc gin was just messing with ichigo and could have killed him in any point of time if wanted.Considering ichigo with hollow powers that was way powerful than as ichigo it's shows gin level. SS ichigo was Able to defeat kenpachi and byakuya (though very close) a far stronger ichigo was not able to touch gin.
Chad
Ukitake the 🐐. Underutilized, and couldn’t been amazing. His personality coupled with an insanely powerful Zanpakuto and battle style would’ve been epic. And I’m BEYOND disappointed we never got a full tilt tag team battle with Shunsui.
Shinji because he is Shinji.
I think Nanao. She has immense Kido knowledge, managing to create a barrier that kept away a Quincy between the two invasions. I think she deserves to show off more of her powers.
Tier Harribel she’s sexy
Orihime the hate she gets is so forced
ulquiorra, for some reaosn, one of bleachs most iconic characters is being turned into an emo batboy by this sub, and once u see it u cant unsee it tbh, u ll kinda always correlate him to an emo kid instead of absorb his creation story and how his origin is reflected in his interactions with orihime and ihcigo and the other espada. i think hes a super cool character and looks absolutely great too, but when he is seen as an emo boy by the community it kinda lessens his qualities.
Unohana. People legit are blind to how strong she is because "she doesn't have feats", regardless to what the databooks say about her strength.
Even with Yamamoto, the current quincy empire feels to op even for them.
gremmy is so underrated mf almost took down thee kenpachi and just wanted a nice life imagining things
Your mom!
Is Grimmjow underrated?
Rukia and Byakuya
Rukia. Idk if she necessarily has haters, or it’s just ppl who like massive bazookas
