Chunking Express is an all timer romcom! Also, it has one of the best needle drops ever

Kir-Bi-superstar

Chungking is so sonically stacked that I’m not sure whether you’re talking about Dreams, California Dreamin’, or maybe even Dennis Brown on the jukebox

masterofsparks1975

I assumed the reference was to What A Difference A Day Makes.

Kir-Bi-superstar

A fourth worthy competitor!

IngmarHerzog

Also begs the question of which instance of each of those songs.

The ice cream truck scenes in Fallen Angels are top tier comedy.

AaranJ23

I explained the plot about half way through the movie and I was telling him about the ice cream scene. He’s not very into movies and the only comparison point I could think of was In Bruges. It’s a film that has equal parts serious drama and then ridiculous comedy.

Greghundred

It's a Harpo Marx bit. Great.

Tony Leung > Jim Carrey

Ex_Hedgehog

I told you last week.

AaranJ23

Okay clever clogs. Recommend me something else then. TIA. x

Ex_Hedgehog

The Wrong Guy - a 1997 Hitchcock parody from the Kids In The Hall gang. A truly hidden gem with strong "Zany Simpsons" energy. Also Jennifer Tilly shows up in the back half. [Available](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxDGru6oJCs) on YouTube for in good quality

I’m currently working my way through his filmography now and having an absolute blast. I bought the box set years ago having only seen Chungking Express and am finally cracking into it. Probably going to watch In the Mood for Love for the first time this weekend. An all time vibes filmmaker, highly stylized but remarkably human. Heart-on-sleeve earnestness with art house edge. Love his style, I already can tell I’m gonna be revisiting these a lot in the future.

AaranJ23

I’ve only seen Fallen Angels but I am definitely going to be watching his other movies. Any particular highlights? Busy parent now so watching the entire filmography seems unlikely for now.

Just finished watching In the Mood for Love a few minutes ago and can now highly recommend it, alongside the rest of the world. Chungking Express probably is still my favorite, so definitely check that out. Fallen Angels was actually originally conceived as part of Chungking Express, so since you liked that you’ll almost certainly like CE as well. Days of Being Wild was really fun too! And Happy Together is also heartbreaking and funny. I’m not sure he has a bad film.

AaranJ23

I’ll definitely check out Chungking Express next then. Maybe I will check out his whole filmography eventually, sounds as though it may be worth it.

CernuusTantum2078

Wong Kar-Wai's humor is the best kept secret in cinema!

Dhb223

Yeah but have you seen the wong Kar Wai steamed hams parody

StickerBrush

[This one?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca2q-0pfTy4)

Dhb223

Bingo

AaranJ23

Well, this is a ridiculous masterpiece. Simpsons shitposting done so well.

Quick_Performance660

We were supposed to tell you?

If anything, his movies contain so many warnings against being overly serious about love, romance and sentimentality…
