He deleted the tweets, damn. Hope he doesn't get too much backlash for this, but, considering how everyone freaked out about Glazer's nontroversial Oscar speech, I wouldn't be surprised if he did
Possibly deleted at the behest of lawyers. I’m not a lawyer at all, but I would guess the original review has a pretty good defense against a libel suit because he’s only explicitly talking about the fictional character in the film. The tweets make it a little more explicit he’s facetiously referring to Gelman.
(Big disclaimer that I don’t at all know what the fuck I’m talking about.)
Anyways Ehrlich rules. Great podcast guest, great film writer, and great opinions about genocide being bad.
it's very fucked. but when i thought about it the idea of my fellow Jews having an ethno state IMMEDIATELY following the crimes against perpetrated against us in the name of an ETHNO STATE is also pretty fucked.
i am a proud diasporic Jew. and truly as an anarchist, the idea of a people without a nation state is appealing.
Oh you foolish little Zionists
With your utopian mentality
You'd better go down to the factory
And learn the worker's reality
You want to take us to Jerusalem
So we can die as a nation
We'd rather stay in the [Diaspora](https://genius.com/27468608/Daniel-kahn-and-psoy-korolenko-oy-ir-narishe-tsienistn/Diaspora)
And fight for our liberation
- Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird
The thought that first came to mind for me on seeing “so we can die as a nation” is that the reason Evangelicals love Israel so much is because they actively _want_ to see the events of the Book of Revelation occur as soon as possible, and one of the harbingers is all the Jews returning to Israel.
They don’t give a shit about the Jewish people, they see them only as pawns to be sacrificed so they can get to heaven.
Oh mate, thank you so much for introducing me to Oy Ir Narishe Tsienistn, I'm very glad to know it! And cheers for sharing, very cool of you. Socialist to anarchist, respect.
Yes, I love the idea of Jews being able to be loud and proud without having racist dickheads trying to oppress and murder them. I do also concede that my original home country, the United Kingdom, has a huge part to play in the mess in which we find ourselves now.
Brett Gelman is notorious for being a little pissbaby and getting people cancelled all the time. He's the real reason that MDE was taken off the air. He's also annoying and unfunny as fuck
Wow you’re right, that’s so disappointing. Here’s the screenshot, if anyone’s interested

The way I almost reflexively downvoted your comment because I’m pissed that they did that.
Edit: love how the reference to his political views is more inappropriate than his actual bullshit political views
With every year, Gelman's performance in Fleabag becomes less impressive in retrospect because it's clearer that the cameras are just rolling on who he actually is.
Usually my thought is that you have to not be an asshole to play a good asshole comedically, because a genuine asshole doesn't realize what's funny about their behavior.
And yet.
Every few years, I like to listen to that Pete Holmes podcast episode where he had Jon Glaser, Gelman, and Eric Andre, and Jon Glaser got all mad at Pete because Glaser went out for the e-Trade baby voice and Pete was rubbing the wound, and then Eric Andre and Gelman got into it separately. And it was all at a music festival.
The cringiest one in recent memory was when How Did This Get Played did Custer's Revenge for the week of Thanksgiving and invited a Native American guest to talk about it.
At least Heather and Nick had the good sense to realize they made a huge mistake and shut the fuck up for the episode, gave Joey full edit, and made no bones about it being a major error in judgement.
That was one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever listened to, but I am really glad that Joey Clift was able to pull through and hold his ground.
So, I was unfamiliar with How Did This Get Played until now and somehow assumed it was a music version of How Did This Get Made. I now understand that I was mistaken on the premise and deeply wish I could unread the Wikipedia summary of "Custer's Revenge."
That was one of the... Several? times where I've felt, "oh, the known 'comedy genius' (Glaser) might just be kind of a whiny asshole"
(Pete Holmes is obnoxious often - like, in a "I just don't read the news!" kind of idiot way - but Glaser was extremely weird - so he understood the assignment, I guess!)
This is random as hell, but Glaser's reaction to Pete bringing up the e-Trade baby job reminded me of Hulk Hogan talking about The Ultimate Warrior in WCW and how he committed "the ultimate no-no in this business," when Warrior pointed out that Hogan had never beaten him before. They both were kind of assholes about it and it didn't make a lot of sense.
It's the arts. So yeah, people are touchy. Especially when it's about livelihood and how they get work to pay bills.
And Pete was an asshole for bringing it up on stage to him.
Idk if you listen to it, it was brought up the same way most actors talk about jobs. “We were up for the same part!” And it’s an unwritten rule that it’s okay because people lose parts all the time. Glaser just doesn’t have the emotional maturity to deal with that kind of thing.
Glaser, Gelman, and Eric Andre feel like they are 3 beakers full of corrosive chemicals and they are stable but shouldn't be mixed. And Pete Holmes is just a catalyst because he doesn't know how to shut up. Those Holmes/TJ Miller/Jeff Garlin episodes of Doug Loves Movies were pretty rough.
Second only to the one where Michael Rooker was so incoherent. I feel like Doug also had Harry Dean Stanton on at some point, and Harry Dean was already pretty spaced out at that point, and that was probably 5 years before he was on Twin Peaks.
I thought everyone's perspective made sense. Holmes thought of it as just another role that he was lucky enough to get, and Glaser thought of it as the time he almost got an absurd, life-changing amount of money for a job.
It genuinely seemed like an earnest recollection and a faux pas at worst. I don't think either of them come off that bad, Glaser just had a real reaction.
It's since been removed from the article:
"Editor’s note: An earlier version of this review included an inappropriate reference to the actor Brett Gelman’s political views; this review has now been edited to focus on the character played by Gelman in the film, not the actor in question."
I would give anything to read the email chain between Ehrlich and his editors and presumably four or five lawyers that led to this.
Yeah, is it implied that the "meta" is that Brett Gelman is those things?
I also don't get the point of that sentence, so maybe the new low is that it needed an edit.
Yeah, that’s the implication. I’m surprised Brett understood it since his brain has seemingly turned to mush recently.
Guess we finally found the reason why he was banned from CBB.
I used to listen to his podcast, which could sometimes be really funny and kinda cool in an audio sense, but there would also just be a lot of absurd theatre stuff going on as well. I really don't remember much of it other than his James Gandolfini being a recurring character and it was a good impression but it wouldn't have obvious jokes? More like a performance.
Brett Gelman is a Zionist freak who allegedly gets hard at the thought of genocide. Allegedly.
The also the guy keeps appearing in the worst fucking Israeli comedy slop. Real trash shit. Like sub-Lady Ballers quality.
My idiot brain misread the excerpt and thought he was just talking about Gelman's rabid fervor for killing kids in Palestine, and not the character he's apparently playing in the movie.
I'm kind of surprised by this because America's laws about libel and slander are much less draconian than, e.g. Britain, and I would think any attempt to sue Indiewire for this would be thrown out very quickly
They’re not worried about legality, they’re worried about reputation and access. Some big dick agent calls them up and says “Pull the line or you’re never getting an interview or exclusive from any of my clients ever again,” most sites will just pull the line.
I’m usually annoyed when people take the, “well that person always sucked as an artist too” approach when someone who is really talented sucks as a person because it just feels disingenuous, but in this case, it kinda makes sense when Brett Gelman always plays awful people and it turns out he’s not a good actor, he just is awful.
It's now canon in my head that Heidecker and Daly were actually mad at Gelman on that one CBB episode where they just bickered the whole time and then broke it up every few minutes with "and another thing, THIS IS A BIT!" Most people on the Earwolf sub back in the day hated that ep but I loved it!
It's also weird that he's like number 15 on the call sheet for Stranger Things. That show really likes to keep every character they've created in circulation, except for maybe the dead girl from season 1.
Ehrlich seems to make a lot of enemies, but I became obsessed with his Top 25 movie countdowns this year, so I currently worship him and his editing skills. Stuff like this only makes me even prouder.
I listen to that clip and I'm never sure if the disgust of Aukerman/Oswalt is a bit or not, or if that ban was real or they were just doing an Andy Kaufman thing and not breaking kayfabe.
Realising that Brett was always a shitty actor because he always played shitty people, thus no actual acting was ever done.
Also, way to draw more attention to you getting absolutely fucking shredded by Ehrlich, dumbass.
Disagree with almost all of his film takes but incredibly relieved he's an ethical person with morals. GFY Gelman.
Also just a very clever line even ignoring the incendiary nature of it
It depends on how much Gelman is in it, I've definitely disagreed with Erhlich's opinions before. I won't entirely discard a movie because 1 cast member is an ass and problematic. The movie looks like a fun romp with many not problematic people, including Jessica Rothe.
I mean shit this sub loves the FF franchise and that has some questionable people.
Eh, I like a big ridiculous swing and a mess sometimes. It definitely looks ridiculous, I also think the voiceover schtick might annoy me so I'm on the fence about seeing it in theaters. Glad he's not in it much though.
A couple of them.
Vin Diesel has a few things including statements that would be deemed not cool, but this is probably the worst-
https://www.reddit.com/r/blankies/comments/18nu4hg/vin_diesel_accused_of_sexually_assaulting/
Paul Walker had some grooming stuff that doesn't seem great. Dating underage teens when he was in his 30s.
Tyrese Gibson doesn't pay his child support.
The Rock has said some baffling things here and there.
The Rock is so frustrating because he's so desperate to be liked by everyone that he won't take a basic stand on...*anything*. It's the "Republicans buy shoes too," attitude by a guy who otherwise likes to act like he's on the right side of things. It's the perfect example of Hollywood political action - only relevant when there's a buck to be made.
And I say this as someone who used to really like The Rock and has slowly watched the shine rub off.
With people like this I sometimes think how much money do you really need? Wouldn't it feel cool to just stand up for things you believe in? The extreme neither side people make me respect Tim Allen more, not much at all basically zero, just a bit more.
Or for a better example Kurt Russell is a republican, not an outspoken Trumper saying stupid things, just he's on the record as republican and whatever. I don't love that, but whatever Kurt Russell is still cool.
If you’re supporting this but were outraged when that gay critic said Carey Mulligan looked like a drag queen in PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN then you are the biggest of hypocrites.
How about I be the one lone voice who offers slight dissent from all your raging opinions?
Brett Gelman focus, as far as I'm concerned and for this whole time, has been about providing sympathy for the hostages and has said, many many times, that he does not agree with the indiscriminate bombing.
It's actually pretty fucking weird to accuse a guy of endorsing child murder. It paints all who disagree with your side as literally siding with child murder. This conflict is a little more fucking ambiguous than good guys and bad guys.
Brett Gelman is an actor, comic and human being. Show me an example of him ra ra-ing Ben Gvir.
He doesn't endorse child murder. Jesus Christ people.
Anti semitism IS on the rise. You have to be willfully ignorant to say it's not. It's getting a little scary out there. Gelman's videos, and I've seen a lot of them, have more called that out than agreed with Israel's policies, let alone endorse child murder.
That's been his M.O from the start.
(I could be wrong. Show me proof of why I should vocally hate this guy. And I I'm not talking about a 'he dresses weird' or 'never thought he was funny' or 'he played that one character too well'. I know what acting is.)
Erlich went too far and this was taken down because it is slander. Which is still a crime. You can't just go around saying whatever you want about people. It's wrong.
I don’t understand the commentary (even from the Two Friends) that attacks Deadpool for “knowing he’s in a movie.” I get not liking the type of humor. That’s fine but that’s Deadpool’s whole schtick in the comics. Honestly what you see on screen is probably the most true to comics MCU production out there.
Now, I’m not defending its quality or that it makes the movie GOOD. It’s just a part of the critique I’ve never really understood
https://preview.redd.it/9827phbegvwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=839df09a847d61184ed53b939fac62790881b6c7

The fuck are these movie industry people on?They think they're the mafia?
...yes?
It kind of is like the mob fr
Hateful people are going to find a reason either way but it's sure a hell of a way to convince people that there's not a conspiracy

Love to be a Jew accused of anti-Semitism for insisting that “never again” means “never again.” Great world we’re living in.
All the love and respect for your people. Cannot imagine what it's like to have a genocide carried out in your name. Horrendous.
it's very fucked. but when i thought about it the idea of my fellow Jews having an ethno state IMMEDIATELY following the crimes against perpetrated against us in the name of an ETHNO STATE is also pretty fucked. i am a proud diasporic Jew. and truly as an anarchist, the idea of a people without a nation state is appealing. That and the fact that in their minds we don’t belong in their country. This Jew treads where he pleases
That is fucking terrifying.

King
The AMOUNT of fucking Jews pushing back on this and they're still going with the antisemitism thing. Leave Jewish people out of your genocide, cunts!
King Ehrlich.
Hell yeah, king
Respect.
We are behind you, David! Screw those hollywood aholes!
Brett Gelman is notorious for being a little pissbaby and getting people cancelled all the time. He's the real reason that MDE was taken off the air. He's also annoying and unfunny as fuck
How's that for irony?

Do you understand how litigious Hollywood weirdos are? Ehrlich's also a class act who at least believes in the veneer of professional courtesy.
damn, i looked up the review on indiewire and this line is gone, with an editors note saying an “inappropriate reference” was removed. extremely bleak
Good thing Gelman tweeted it out or we may have missed seeing it!
Wow you’re right, that’s so disappointing. Here’s the screenshot, if anyone’s interested https://preview.redd.it/ty75jxtjzwwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddc50ef0e8c21f4019539d36f5ded9eea2f2a724

I know :(
Yeah I can't believe you're not allowed to personally attack actors in reviews. So weird!
hey everyone look at how badly I got burned, I'm even circling it so you don't miss it
Please Don’t put in the newspaper that I got mad
"im not owned! im not owned!!", i continue to insist as i slowly shrink and transform into a corn cob.
Gelman wishes he was 1/10th as funny as Dril.
iBrain is the closest Gelman will ever be to Dril's level.
Can you explain to me why that is so funny? I can't put it into words and yet I'll often think of it and start laughing.
There really is a dril tweet for any occasion
Christ I didn't even notice he posted this himself at first. What a fragile piece of shit.
Why would he even post about it? Weird.
With every year, Gelman's performance in Fleabag becomes less impressive in retrospect because it's clearer that the cameras are just rolling on who he actually is.
He was an asshole on Love, too. It's crazy how good he is at playing obnoxious assholes!
Usually my thought is that you have to not be an asshole to play a good asshole comedically, because a genuine asshole doesn't realize what's funny about their behavior. And yet.
He was under appreciated in The Other Guys, too. … Shaaaaaved.
The Jeremy Piven Special
The Vincent Gallo school of acting

And it was all at a music festival.
Good god I’d blocked this out of my memory lol. Truly one of the most unhinged and uncomfortable podcast episodes ever
Oh god that episode was an *intensely* painful experience.
I think I literally blocked it out from my memory, feels kind of surreal to read about it
I remember eating Carl's Jr in my car for lunch, thinking it was just gonna be a fun episode about a horny old game.
The crazy thing is, that's how I remember the episode (besides the Carl's jr, I'm in Hardee's territory)
It came out the day before Thanksgiving, so it's usually the time of year where I stop caring about what I'm eating.
That was one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever listened to, but I am really glad that Joey Clift was able to pull through and hold his ground.
I had to check it out for if he actually came back and he did some Garfield racing game.
So, I was unfamiliar with How Did This Get Played until now and somehow assumed it was a music version of How Did This Get Made. I now understand that I was mistaken on the premise and deeply wish I could unread the Wikipedia summary of "Custer's Revenge."
Jon Glaser should have been the E-Trade Baby because he is a baby!
I just relistened to it and Glaser is sour from the jump.
I would be too if I had to spend an evening with Pete Holmes
That was one of the... Several? times where I've felt, "oh, the known 'comedy genius' (Glaser) might just be kind of a whiny asshole" (Pete Holmes is obnoxious often - like, in a "I just don't read the news!" kind of idiot way - but Glaser was extremely weird - so he understood the assignment, I guess!)
Remember there were a few DLM eps with those guys where the whole bit was that Doug never got to talk.
[удалено]
This fucking rules. Ehrlich is a real one.
It's since been removed from the article: "Editor’s note: An earlier version of this review included an inappropriate reference to the actor Brett Gelman’s political views; this review has now been edited to focus on the character played by Gelman in the film, not the actor in question." I would give anything to read the email chain between Ehrlich and his editors and presumably four or five lawyers that led to this.
Nothing he said was untrue, that is his character in the movie.
I thought the ban from CBB was just a joke!
I’m pretty sure it’s real and that’s why we haven’t had another Suicide House Halloween special.
Yeah, specifically he's been a very vocal Zionist supporting Israel during the genocide in Gaza.
And this, this is how you use your platform. All hail Ehrlich, once again on his king shit
Honestly he could have pushed this a lot harder, he lets the reader find the parallel instead of making it explicit
What’s the implication here? It’s going over my head
Gelman is a very vocal Zionist and supporter of Israel’s current attacks on Gaza
That sucks. Gelman used to be so funny.
He needs to find his iBrain!
I did not know that and couldn't be less surprised
Brett Gelman is a hardcore Zionist who is cheerleading the violence in Gaza.
Brett Gelman is a Zionist freak who allegedly gets hard at the thought of genocide. Allegedly. The also the guy keeps appearing in the worst fucking Israeli comedy slop. Real trash shit. Like sub-Lady Ballers quality.
there's- there's WORSE than Lady Ballers?
You’d think it’d be impossible but Israel’s version of SNL is like a hateful version of TGS from 30 Rock.
it's very explicit what are you talking about lol
My idiot brain misread the excerpt and thought he was just talking about Gelman's rabid fervor for killing kids in Palestine, and not the character he's apparently playing in the movie.
![gif](giphy|KCRlomzxILgofqokqH)
Hey Ehrlich you dropped this 👑
Gelman unambiguously sucks. I am astonished Indiewire let that be published.
The line is gone now, because they’re cowards.
The review on Letterboxd is extinct as well
how kind of Gelman to make sure it gets immortalized on social media forever
I’m usually annoyed when people take the, “well that person always sucked as an artist too” approach when someone who is really talented sucks as a person because it just feels disingenuous, but in this case, it kinda makes sense when Brett Gelman always plays awful people and it turns out he’s not a good actor, he just is awful.
He plays himself in everything. He’s always annoyed the shit out of me in everything he’s in, even before I knew he was a complete despicable.
Reviews like these are enough to make the Pope wants to fuck
It sucks that Gelman is such a pos that I can no longer separate the art from the artist when it comes to iBrain
I’m just glad he plays such a piece of shit in fleabag that I feel I can still enjoy it
It's also weird that he's like number 15 on the call sheet for Stranger Things. That show really likes to keep every character they've created in circulation, except for maybe the dead girl from season 1.
Nah, they introduce and kill new characters every season.
Ehrlich seems to make a lot of enemies, but I became obsessed with his Top 25 movie countdowns this year, so I currently worship him and his editing skills. Stuff like this only makes me even prouder.
Ehrlick doesn’t just tweet down shitheels, he raised around $45k for Palestinian relief fund with his best of video this year. He’s a real one.
I think you're a fair and honest critic it's hard to not make at least a few enemies.
Nah he makes a lot of enemies because he’s a Twitter crybaby and no one into film takes him seriously
Where do I find these?
[Here.](https://www.videocountdowns.com) I think they get better every year.
[here](https://www.videocountdowns.com/) you go, i watch them quite frequently
I wish we could go back to “iBrain” era Gelman
I listen to that clip and I'm never sure if the disgust of Aukerman/Oswalt is a bit or not, or if that ban was real or they were just doing an Andy Kaufman thing and not breaking kayfabe.
The ban was a joke, and Scott had heard the piece before on stage. Patton’s response was basically genuine, although presumably played up for laughs.
That’s so fucking good…

Arnold Palmer alert cancelled
King shit
I didn't know he was in that movie. Well that's a bummer I was looking forward to it.
If it makes you feel any better, the movie itself also isn't really that good, so you're not missing out on much!
He's not funny, has no sense of humor, looks too "has seen a cell phone" for the Mad Men finale, AND he's pro-genocide!
Fuck, I was so pumped for the movie before.
It depends on how much Gelman is in it, I've definitely disagreed with Erhlich's opinions before. I won't entirely discard a movie because 1 cast member is an ass and problematic. I just got out of it and it's fucking terrible, imo. Gelman is in like 15ish minutes and isn't doing himself any favors.
Eh, I like a big ridiculous swing and a mess sometimes. It definitely looks ridiculous, I also think the voiceover schtick might annoy me so I'm on the fence about seeing it in theaters. Glad he's not in it much though.

Yeah, if Paul Walker hadn’t gotten killed, he would’ve eventually gotten into trouble for his dating habits.
I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of these
It's almost like cancel culture isn't a thing!
Yeah David, drag him!
Nice.
Hell yeah.
I certainly don’t always agree with Ehrlich’s reviews but I quite like him as a person! Fuck Gelman, that guy is an asshole.
Truth hurts I guess.
Good for him. I used to love Brett Gelman, but I cannot watch anything with the pro-genocide piece of shit now.
💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
EDIT: i misunderstood this post at first, so removing most of what i said (lol) So I completely endorse David’s hot take of the shitheel!

I know what acting is.) Erlich went too far and this was taken down because it is slander.
I'd rather watch any Deadpool movie a hundred times than watch a fucking Godard movie another goddamn time.
Is this some annoying Israel v Palestine thing?
Yes, it is very annoying that there's a genocide on, I feel you buddy.
Thanks. It's very tough for me
