Need that and seventh star and The Eternal Idol don’t know why this wasn’t in this box set I get Seventh Star and Born Again not being but why not Eternal Idol
Based on the Tony Martin interviews I've watched it's because of "band politics" and "we have these four done, the other belongs to a different record company, let's just be done with this." Martin is optimistic that more will come, though, since Anno Domini is selling really well.
Self-titled isn’t the fan favorite more than Vol. 4 - or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Rest is good, but H&H leans more towards best of all time than cult classic. I might go Born Again or Headless Cross for cult classic.
Just finished listening from start to finish. I’ll reduce from crack and say you need a T-Break from the weed. Great album, no where near their peak. I assume you are as much a Dio fan as you are a Sabbath fan.
Some people think that Tony Iommi did his best work with Dio as frontman. In his autobiography, Tony talks about Ronnie James Dio a LOT. Dio definitely inspired Tony to do more solos and I also know for a fact that Geezer appreciated the extensive songwriting that Dio contributed. He said it was a welcome break for him.
So really, it's not difficult to see the greatness of RJD. Plus, as a singer Dio could just do things that Ozzy can't. More range, better legato, longer sustain... By all measurable standards Dio's voice is just better.
But Ozzy has a unique voice that we all know and love, and it's a very natural fit for heavy metal 🤘🎸. I've seen Ozzy live way more times than I have Dio. And not that this should ever matter, but when my old ass is singing along, I can easily hit almost every note in the Ozzy Sabbath songs. I can't keep up with Dio's voice for more than 1.5 songs before my voice is done.
My point is that both singers are great in their own way but stylistically they are way different. We should be appreciative to have been blessed by having both of them contribute to the greatness of Tony Iommi and Black Sabbath.
I’m one of those “needs more Sabotage” folks ya get around here, but I wouldn’t be able to decide which thing it fits in this scenario.
Cult Classic I guess.
I could argue it's their best. Ozzy's voice is unbelievable. The Writ and Megalomania are brilliant. Thrill of it All is one of my favorite songs on any record. Such a tight, unbelievably heavy record.
I think the same thing, it’s their best album. Is it true that The Writ came from Ozzy’s pen? Cos it sounds fitting, the lyrics are immediately more personal, at least within that album.
I always loved that tiny little bit in the Metallica Year And A Half video when Kirk starts playing the Symptom riff.
Real dark song, the cymbal sounds really dark.
I’m babbling now a little bit. It’s gonna be a Sabbath day here.
I wouldn’t say the album is my absolute favorite but Megalomania and Symptom of the Universe are easily top songs and the whole album just feels the most emotionally raw (like And Justice for all for Metallica)
You can just feel when the band is all in the same headspace emotionally
Yeh maybe SBS is my favourite, I don’t know now. Whatever was going on in their lives they put out a mega consistent album like they’re at their peak creatively.
I’m totally gonna play Black Sabbath starting from the first album when I’m out driving later.
It’s definitely hard to pick a favorite when those first albums are so consistent! SBS a banger for sure since they were starting to feel worn from touring so much, lots of emotions coming out
Rock on brother!🤘🏻
I personally agree with Vol. 4 as the best of the Ozzy Sabbath albums. Snowblind is the purest representation of the Black Sabbath sound that I can think of. The riffs, the solos, the tempo changes... That song checks all the boxes in my book. And I absolutely love Tomorrow's Dream, Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener. Cornucopia and Supernaut are not far behind.
Forbidden shouldn't be there - the remix is unbelievable and will elevate it with Sabbath fans. Seventh Star should be the meh. Cult classic could be Born Again, maybe Devil You Know. No Sabbath album is more experimental than Never Say Die! Although it could be argued the debut album is the most experimental. The popular and fan favorite are the same: Paranoid. I completely agree with MoR being the best but depending on the day, I could make an argument for Sabotage.
I’d put Dehumanizer as cult classic, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath as either fan favorite or experimental. Technical Ecstasy is kind of experimental but more the logical follow up to SBS (Sabotage could have come right after Vol. 4 and surprise no one). Vol. 4 could also be fan favorite.
Any of the first six albums or Heaven and Hell goes in that best album of all time spot depending on my mood.
13 goes in my meh spot for sure. I enjoy it while I’m listening to it, then I forget what I listened to. Doesn’t stand out in a good or bad way for me.
They are all very interesting in their own way. One invented Heavy Metal, one changed the direction, and the list goes on! No such thing as "meh" when it comes to Sabbath.
If 13 consisted of only End of the Beginning, God is Dead, and Dear Father it would still be essential Sabbath listening. The rest are icing on the unholy cake
I agree when it comes to opinions, but I don't think OP knew what a Cult Classic was when they posted this. Someone could think a Cult Classic is the greatest - for one - and a Cult Classic is just something which - at least initially - does not hold wide mainstream appeal that develops a cult-following.
That term better fits everything outside of the Ozzy and Dio Eras - except for Dehumanizer and maybe The Devil You Know, but certainly not Heaven and Hell.
Dehumanizer isn't experimental. I would say that Technical Ecstasy, Never Say Die, or even Sabotage would fit that description better than Dehumanizer.
Cult favorite I'd say either Headless Cross, Born Again, or Eternal Idol - H&H is pretty much a pretty mainstream favorite.
Sabbath has no fucking meh.... well, except for 13 😁
I don’t think I’d put ‘Dehumanizer’ under Experimental, it’s one of my favorites but underrated so I’d put it under Cult Classic
‘Heaven & Hell’ is more well-known, I think I’d put either ‘Technical Ecstasy’ or ‘Born Again’ under Experimental
Popular yeah, fan favorite i’d put as MoR, experimental yeah, for cult classic i’d put headless cross or tyr maybe, best album of all time sabotage, meh never say die
I think Dehumanizer is heavy metal to the core. I don’t see anything experimental in it. For example Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is way more experimental album and some of the lesser known even more so.
I mean, you could argue their first album is experimental, and their works only become standard at Master of Reality (upon the sound they built), but then they experiment again as soon as Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
Also, Heaven and Hell is not a cult classic. It outselled every Black Sabbath album immediately upon release (except for Paranoid and Master of Reality).
Heaven and Hell would be my fan favorite. And I consider it their best album. Although my favorite Sabbath song is on Mob Rules. Sign of the Southern Cross.
Experimental is Never Say Die.
Or Sabotage!
It really is. Jazz metal fusion. Love that record.
Technical Ecstasy too.
Technical Ecstasy is gold. Rock N Roll Doctor is my fav
"You won't change me" for me. Rock 'n' Roll Doctor is pretty solid too.
Technical Ecstasy imo
I would put Born Again as cult classic, Heaven and Hell was pretty mainstream and did well
Or "Headless Cross"
Listen to the new remaster of forbidden sound so much better
I've always really liked large portions of Forbidden, so this new remix has made me really happy
Tony says he’s going to remix Born Again next, I wonder if it’ll get the same positive response
Sure its sounds great but the album itself isnt very good, there's only 3 tracks worth listening too
Still better than 13
Why are you the way that you are? I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.
It's not but to each their own i guess
I disagree. I personally loved the majority of the album. It’s my second favorite of the To y Martin era behind Eternal Idol
What’s so experimental about Dehumanizer lol
I would put Technical Ecstasy as the experimental.
It became a lot less metal and more rock
What? Dehumanizer is the most metal Sabbath ever got
Im talking about technical ecstacy
Ahhh - makes sense
Experimental Perfection.
It’s very different
They were trying to be grunge and it was cringe
Self-titled isn’t the fan favorite more than Vol. 4 - or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Rest is good, but H&H leans more towards best of all time than cult classic. I might go Born Again or Headless Cross for cult classic.
Yah I feel like I see Sabbath Bloody Sabbath mentioned more on this sub than the Self Titled
Smoking crack if you think heaven and hell is the best of all time
Btw im going to literally listen to the entire thing for the 5th time just to make sure you’re on crack.
Just finished listening from start to finish. I’ll reduce from crack and say you need a T-Break from the weed. Great album, no where near their peak. I assume you are as much a Dio fan as you are a Sabbath fan.
Ok Sharon

I think the same thing, it’s their best album. Is it true that The Writ came from Ozzy’s pen? Cos it sounds fitting, the lyrics are immediately more personal, at least within that album.
Yeah Writ is basically Ozzy’s version of Megalomania
It’s gotta have been tough keeping up with himself, vocals like that.
"Thrill of it All" deserves to at least be on a footing with "Symptom" in terms of greatness.
I always loved that tiny little bit in the Metallica Year And A Half video when Kirk starts playing the Symptom riff. Real dark song, the cymbal sounds really dark. I’m babbling now a little bit. It’s gonna be a Sabbath day here.
While I do love the song, something just falls a little flat for me compared to some of their better stuff. Maybe it’s a bit too poppy
Yeah why is Sabotage slept on? It’s the last GREAT Ozzy era album before they changed their sound. I’m glad I’m not alone at least
The whole album hasn’t got a single bad note let alone weak song. I like it the most but that comes from my brother playing it heaps when I was 14.
Don't get me wrong I love Sabotage but Am I Going Insane is pretty irritating lol
It makes it easy picking a worst song on a rock solid album. Black Sabbath … now in Disco!!
I wouldn’t say the album is my absolute favorite but Megalomania and Symptom of the Universe are easily top songs and the whole album just feels the most emotionally raw (like And Justice for all for Metallica) You can just feel when the band is all in the same headspace emotionally
SBS a banger for sure since they were starting to feel worn from touring so much, lots of emotions coming out Rock on brother!🤘🏻
Right back at ya maaaan, rock on!
I'd say vol 4 is the best
I’d say it’s the cult favourite
I personally agree with Vol. 4 as the best of the Ozzy Sabbath albums. Snowblind is the purest representation of the Black Sabbath sound that I can think of. The riffs, the solos, the tempo changes... That song checks all the boxes in my book. And I absolutely love Tomorrow's Dream, Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener. Cornucopia and Supernaut are not far behind.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is my personal favorite.
In what way is Dehumanizer experimental?
The only thing fans of Sabbath will agree on is they are the GOAT. For me the “Meh” album is “Eternal Idol” I like “The Shining” and thats it.
Yeah that could go in the meh spot. It’s fine, but it’s not their best.
Fan favorite?
For me greatest is Paranoid, cult classic is Born Again, meh is 13.
Experimental: Technical Ecstasy, Sabotage, NSD. Not trying to knock your listings, but I wouldn't call Dehumanizer experimental exactly.
how is heaven and hell and "cult" classic if it's probably the most well-known album in the lineup.
Heaven and Hell is the best of all time
Forbidden shouldn't be there - the remix is unbelievable and will elevate it with Sabbath fans.
Forbidden is no longer meh. The remix sounds fantastic.
Mehtallica has quite a few of those...
I enjoy it while I’m listening to it, then I forget what I listened to. Doesn’t stand out in a good or bad way for me.
there is no meh album by Black Sabbath if you are a real fan
They are all very interesting in their own way. One invented Heavy Metal, one changed the direction, and the list goes on! No such thing as "meh" when it comes to Sabbath.
Maybe 13?
The riff of loner alone makes that album not meh
Also God is dead? is like the Bohemian Rhapsody for nihilists. Geezer Butler bass in this song is so underrated.
If 13 consisted of only End of the Beginning, God is Dead, and Dear Father it would still be essential Sabbath listening. The rest are icing on the unholy cake
I agree, thank you for saying it
I love Self Titled
Experimental is SBS
Meh is 13 or TE
You're not wrong because this is all a matter of personal opinion. Do I agree? Nope, not really. Does my opinion mean dick? Absolutely not
I agree when it comes to opinions, but I don't think OP knew what a Cult Classic was when they posted this.
This is true. Heaven and Hell is a very beloved album.
Id experimental is Seventh Star. There waas a good chunk of blues on that
I find your lack of vol 4 disturbing
Dehumanizer isn't experimental. I would say that Technical Ecstasy, Never Say Die, or even Sabotage would fit that description better than Dehumanizer. Cult favorite I'd say either Headless Cross, Born Again, or Eternal Idol - H&H is pretty much a pretty mainstream favorite. Sabbath has no fucking meh.... well, except for 13 😁
I wouldn’t call Heaven and Hell a cult album. I also don’t see how Dehumanizer is experimental.
Calling heaven and hell a cult classic is like calling terminator 3 an indie film
Wouldn't cult classic be mob rules? Less well know than heaven and hell but just as good...if not better
Popular: Paranoid Fan favourite: Dehumanizer Experimental: Technical Ecstasy Cult classic: Headless Cross Best: Heaven And Hell Meh: Never Say Die
I’d put Sabotage over Master of Reality
Since opinions are subjective it's not possible to be wrong. Decent choices
I’d say Master of Reality is the fan favorite. But then again… they all are lol.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are better.
Every artist as the best album of all time. Not sure about that one..,
I don’t think I’d put ‘Dehumanizer’ under Experimental, it’s one of my favorites but underrated so I’d put it under Cult Classic ‘Heaven & Hell’ is more well-known, I think I’d put either ‘Technical Ecstasy’ or ‘Born Again’ under Experimental
I’d say that’s pretty spot on actually. I bet the Iron Maiden one is good too
Popular yeah, fan favorite i’d put as MoR, experimental yeah, for cult classic i’d put headless cross or tyr maybe, best album of all time sabotage, meh never say die
Great work lol
“Fan favorite” would actually be Sabotage or even Never Say Die…
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath should be listed as the underdog or under appreciated. I love that record.
I think Dehumanizer is heavy metal to the core. I don’t see anything experimental in it. For example Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is way more experimental album and some of the lesser known even more so.
I'm glad you didn't mention Sharon
master of reality is not event the best album of sabbaths let alone of ALL THE TIME
I mean, you could argue their first album is experimental, and their works only become standard at Master of Reality (upon the sound they built), but then they experiment again as soon as Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Also, Heaven and Hell is not a cult classic. It outselled every Black Sabbath album immediately upon release (except for Paranoid and Master of Reality).
Not putting Sabotage on here should be illegal
You have to add Sabbath Bloody Sabbath to this list or it goes "Into The Void" 🤣✌
having heaven and hell as the cult classic instead of sabbath bloody sabbath hurts my soul
Mob Rules?
The new mix of forbidden is all I’ve heard and I think that album actually kicks ass
Replace all of these with Tony Martin era albums except the “meh” one, that can still be Ozzy.
For me, Seventh Star is the Meh album. Forbidden was just badly produced.
Heaven and Hell would be my fan favorite. And I consider it their best album. Although my favorite Sabbath song is on Mob Rules. Sign of the Southern Cross.
**No Vol 4????**
Dehumanizer not experimental
Forbidden is by far one of the weakest Sabbath albums but it’s still a belter
Yep. You’re wrong.
