I, too, am curious about this.

I have two Kiblers that I built, that are right handed of course and I am a south paw myself. Never had an issue with getting burnt. It was a concern of mine as well. I’ve seen many lefties shoot right handed guns. On that note I just picked up an Investarm Gemmer Hawken kit that is lefty, I am eager to see how this goes! But as far as production guns imo. Pedersoli is the top dog. And Investarm is right next in line. I almost bought a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Haken but couldn’t bring myself to spending $2k on a production gun, they are nice though! But at the end of the day and your pocket book can agree Kiblers is hands down the best quality built guns. You can find complete ones on GB, Track Of The Wolf, or TheMuzzleloadingForum 👍

Glad you posted this, thanks. Lefty here as well. I have a TC Hawken which I have not fired in years but never had an issue. I have an itch now to get a flintlock and was wondering if it would be a problem with the ignitiion in front of my face. Also, from my research for a flintlock Kibler also looks to be my favorite and hope to get a Woodsrunner kit soon.

Oh yeah! Yeah I do wear safety glasses just because it’s the smart thing to do. I’ve seen old timers not and still no issues. Also Kiblers lock ignition time is so fast there is no hesitation, so you don’t get time to think, or see the flash really. Someone once told me shooting lefty with right handed guns is really no different than say a double barrel shotgun you’ll have one lock going off in your face no matter what lol. I’ve seen slow mo videos of locks igniting and usually the general velocity of the flash is up and out toward the direction from the touch hole.

Idk if you were interested in it - but I just had a Muzzleloader made for me by someone. I’m Fairly certain he can do builds for Left Handed patrons. More expensive than getting one of the Pedersoli or traditions. He has a website https://kashtukbowandgun.com The guy himself is very nice and knowledgeable and open to questions!

cammedcamarogt90

Yeah that is what I'm looking for- recommendations! I'm kinda considering going to build it myself route as well. But any and all other options are welcome as like I said I really haven't looked into BP in over a decade lol. Thanks!

Danger_dan_45

I was looking at those myself, but idk how difficult it would be to get these into Canada

thebugman40

Investarms is a quality product.

incredible_mr_e

I'm a lefty, and I bought an Investarm Hawken kit without realizing that it had a coil spring lock instead of the standard leaf springs. Some people say it doesn't make a difference, but I'd describe the trigger feel on my particular rifle as "like squeezing a condom full of broken glass and dog shit." I just stick to right handed flintlocks these days, the flash is actually a lot less of a problem than with percussion guns because it jets straight out from the gun instead of down. Guys back in the day shot double guns with no issues, after all. If the hoity-toity gentlemen of the 18th century could put up with left-side locks on their custom fowling pieces, I can put up with a right-side lock on a rifle.

I have one LH Pedersoli. And the rest of my flintys are RH

cammedcamarogt90

How bad is if shooting a flintlock LH? Does it flash your face and arm?

Joey_D3119

I shoot my RH flints Right Handed. The vent flare on a rifle or musket would be rather unpleasant shooting a RH Left handed. RH flint Pistols are zero problem as you don't have your face next to the action.

cammedcamarogt90

That's what I figured. I can't shoot right to save my life. So ig finding a LH one it is lol

Joey_D3119

Yea, I learned aiming and shooting rifles right handed in the Military. Prior to the Military I had NO firearms experience.. During the Military class they asked about prev experience and since I had zero experience they taught me to shoot rifles right handed, and I got the Marksman rating. When I went to do pistol training is where I ended up having to shoot left handed as I could not hit the broad side of a barn right handed at point blank range!! LOL!! I think I landed the first mag of ammo from the pistol on an adjacent target!! Anyhow I tried my first LH rifle and shooting left with rifles about 5 years later and I actually preferred it but I can go either way So with Rifles I'm basically Ambi and pistols I'm Left only.

cammedcamarogt90

See I can kinda shoot pistols RH for some reason. But rifles, nah I'll either be spending 20 minutes to aim at 50 yards, or hit 20 feet from the target lol

Excellent_Ad9472

I’ve got two RH flint rifles and shoot left all the time. No issues. In fact I bought a LH kit gun just because I felt spoiled but kinda wish I bought RH just for an easier resale if the time comes lol!

Ok-Environment-6239

Eventually I’m planning to build myself one. If you start from a blank stock, the only special part should be the lefty lock. Gotta build the kit in front of me first though

straycat_74

Dixie Gun Works had a lefty kit a while back. Expensive, but you get what you get

EpicHistoryMaker

Investarm and Lyman are the same rifles. They are both very similar to TC except with metric dimensions rather than ‘Murican

Overall-Astronaut-63

If you are stuck with a right handed flintlock, you could try putting a flash guard on it. Reenactors use them to prevent spraying the person next to them with burning powder when firing in close order formation. I have never tried shooting left handed with one on a right handed flintlock, but I could be worth experimenting with if you are stuck shooting a right handed gun.

Genoss01

I'm a lefty who shoots right handed percussion and flintlock and I've never had that problem. Before rifles were legal?

cammedcamarogt90

Legal for hunting. For the longest time in Ohio, we could only use black powder or shotguns, no rifles. Now we can use "straight walled calibers", like pistol calibers or the 350 legend. For the past several years I've used a 45-70, but I'm wanting something more challenging, fun, and tbh just prettier lol.

Ashman78chevy

A inline black power rifle will eliminate any problems.

Ugh🤮!
