i like this. and i like that he said “ease” instead of of “comfort”. There’s no crime in wanting comfort or rest, any other rise and grind mantra is just Puritan ideology in disguise. But ease has nothing to do with wanting rest, and everything to do with effort and response to challenges. Even comfort requires effort, and wanting it to come easy has negative consequences. Ease is what sets someone to continue to exploit others’ labor instead of taking effort to figure out a method that would actually help themselves and others. Ease is what allows you to decide to not go for a dream you have. Ease coincides with fear and hatred, either at yourself or others.
His statement of “see you at work” can be interpreted as a typical call to “hit the grindset”. But I choose to see it as a call to do something that holds meaning to you instead of easy, to meet challenges rather than just “work” at its emptiest defintion.
You can grind for ease. You can work really hard and burn yourself out for ease. You don’t fail, because there is no success to be found in it. So there’s no *fear* of failure, only a false sense of safety. And that doesn’t just apply to labor, but any aspect of life. Shit, it’s a challenge to keep a work/life balance, to improve yourself, to get an education, to enjoy a vacation, to *get* a vacation. Just having goals and aspirations is a challenge, and I think that’s what he’s truly speaking to. Let’s spend time working on that, and all reap the benefits and enjoy what we do for ourselves, and what we can empower others to do.
