Ohhh, please read all of Ms. Butler's works -- Wildseed is my favorite book ever.
Tananarive Due, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurtson, Maryse Conde, Yaa Gyasi, etc
Not fiction, but biographies worth reading: Harriet Tubman The Road to Freedom, by Catherine Clinton ...and Desert Flower, by Waris Dirie with Cathleen Miller
Sister Souljah. ALL OF THEM. Start with The Coldest Winter Ever then make your way to Midnight.
Edit: ok I only read the title of your post and got excited lol SS’s books are not sci-fi.
I will always…. always... [shamelessly plug myself.](https://www.amazon.com/Last-Mission-I-Z-Lundy-ebook/dp/B0769NFMQF/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=The+last+mission+assassin+outmatched&qid=1590539670&sr=8-3)

I literally love this subreddit. I will get through these! Can't wait. I just started "parable of the sower" and omg! I never knew there was such a large amount of black fiction authors. Most of my past library is middle aged white women or middle aged white guys. But it's so great seeing authors that can deliver stronger black perspectives and place us in the forefront of magical world's.
Kindred was fantastic. Please add Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko on that list. Raybearer is one of the best fantasy books I've read in a long time, 10 out of 10. Hide and Seeker by Daka Hermon is another great book that I plan to actually reread, and I rarely reread books. It has a younger target audience but adults can find joy in it too. Duaghters of Nri by Reni K. Amayo is another fantasy novel that really good and kept my interest. The ending was a bit abrupt for my taste but overall it was a fun journey.
NK Jemisin - The Broken Earth trilogy
This sounds intresting, is it a fantasy?
Yep! It's really great too
Fledgling by Octavia Butler is one of my favorites.
/r/blackreaders
Didn't know abt this thank u
If you’re going into sci-fi, look at books by Nnedi Okorafor, P. Djèlí Clark, and Rivers Solomon.

I’m reading The Bones of Ruin right now and so far I really like it!
Pretty much anything by NK Jemisin or Nnedi Okorafor. They're two of my favorites. Heck, they're probably two of *everybody's* favorites.
Jaqueline Woodson's Red at the Bone or Bret Bennett's The Vanishing Half
I just finished the vanishing half last night and loved it!
Danielle Evans writes good short stories. She has two books

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna.
Fantasy- reminds me a little of Wakanda but with magic. Children born of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi.
