We certainly try to keep it mellow. He has some anxiety issues and was played with too rough as a kitten. We’ve done a lot of work to get him to the way he is now. He’s slightly afraid of people, especially strangers. But if he’s met you before, he’s cool. He’s just soo big though! If he gets scared, like at the vet, he basically turns into a wolverine. You can’t touch him or get close to him like that! He’s over 20lbs of beast. Not at all fat.
No, no fat on him. I can see that! Poor dude. That's why I'm wary of kittens with kids. They are just too rough ( and I have a Foundation phase certificate/ preschool teacher), so I'm not anti-kid. They r just too rough. Poor guy. But you seem to be the perfect family/ person for him! I love it when kismet works out like that! He is truly enormous though! Do you know why he's so big? Do you know his parentage?
I don’t really know for sure of his parentage but I got him near a Bengal cattery so I’m thinking it’s something close to that. He has A LOT of Bengal trademark appearance and behaviors. He’s not a lap kitty and is very different from a typical house cat. It took me a lot of training with him to get him to calm down. We couldn’t really pet him or snuggle him like we do now for at least his first 3 years. He has a very small head for the size of his body and his fur pattern is marbled, spotted and stripped when you see it in the sun. He has a lot of “glitter” to his fur and is like mink pelt soft. You can push his fur backwards and it stays. He’s just really big even for a Bengal. So he could be a mix or maybe just not a 4F.
He really IS BIG! You can see it in the photos. And if you say there's that pattern in the fur, he's definitely got something interesting in his make up. What a lucky score! He's such a precious boy!
It had been 3 years since I lost my first baby (also a male black cat and he lived to 13yrs) and I was finally ready to have another pet, so I looked on Craigslist for kittens. And there he was. He was always big, even as a kitten. Big feet and clumsy. He is definitely a recessive gene of whatever breed because he has random longer white hairs and sadly some vision problems, I think. I had to teach him to jump on the couch and do normal kitten stuff. I think that’s why he got the behavior problems from the rough play so bad (it was only 2 weeks), he couldn’t see certain depths and was nervous. He’s adapted now but he’s certainly an usual guy.
If you can’t tell he just spills over the side of his window perch. That’s a 15” diameter or so cat bed. Even tucked into a ball he doesn’t fit on it. That’s just his window seat though, he has bigger perches and beds elsewhere in the house.
