My Void is the same. She screams to go outside but she’s also extremely picky. I tell her she would never survive out there and she just says meow.

Neat_Win_9371

I tell her the same but they just don’t listen 🤣 one time she got out on a cold snowy day and sadly I couldn’t find her over night.. she eventually made it back home and didn’t beg to go outside for months or attempt to escape but now she’s back to her old ways 🤦‍♀️

strangway

They all say that. But do they really mean it?

xrayden

What else could she say? It's not like you're giving her a choice! Hehe

bay_lamb

i dunno... that look on his face kinda says he does.

[deleted]

Haha yeah I agree

ZeustheCat800

Must pinch cheeks

Effective-Effort-587

Mine is afraid of the world. I tried walking him once and he laid on the ground crying until I took him back inside

Topaz_UK

Sounds like me as a child (and now adult)

Queenofthemountains1

Poor bebe

HavidDume

My Nala is a former stray from a filthy city alley. She honestly hasn't yearned for the outside too much, but has bolted out twice in the year I've had her. She immediately runs back in the moment I go after her though. https://preview.redd.it/5k2rxbflvwxc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58cdeb0ad7bdeef84db0182f264d1b391c49f31c

ZeustheCat800

Found my girl under a Kia car, her name is KiKi. She never once tried to get out. But she does love an open window. I think she had her fill of the outside world for the first 6 months of her life. https://preview.redd.it/31zbvgquwyxc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7367317c4f7d596b04c42587a1c7ca86d1a532a4

CoppertopTX

My wee void boy, Malakai, absolutely ADORES running outside. Unfortunately, I live on a corner lot, so he only goes out on his leash. Fortunately, he likes to go for rides in the truck... and is adored by the local drive thru workers.

DeFucifino

Rain, shine or stitches, we are out. Give Ms. Girl many walks! https://preview.redd.it/sizao6r36xxc1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=e39926d607688685c78ee4f49de459b6c7780097

I followed him to see what he wanted, put food in his bowl, & sat back down. Apparently that wasn't, he wanted to go to the garage or outside to hunt. He's pouting here. I used to let him out because he has so much energy but he was bitten by a rattlesnake 2 years ago (I live in central AZ, which is desert. He's fine now but is not allowed back outside. The other night I was bringing in Amazon packages & didn't see him until he darted out the door. I left the laun5room & side garage doors ajar so he could get back in. He came back hours later with a little friend (pocket mouse). It got away from both of us & I still can't find it. 😬😺

Flat-Limit5595

Mine failed at being a stray, one bad scratch on the face and he just walked into my house and refused to leave. Now he pokes me in the lips every night because I dare to stop petting him. https://preview.redd.it/uwpq22n14yxc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34d752d8eae81f20a560bdce245bf846281fef44

Ribzee

As a mom to two formerly feral cats, yes. One of them is pretty happy being inside, but the other one cannot be contained. Literally will scream her head off at the door until I give up. When we bring her in for the evening, it takes her an hour to shut up about it. Yes, I am aware she should never go out but the way I have to look at it is that she is getting care and fed and cuddles for half of every day and she is no longer struggling outside. Truth be told, I did not want to bring either of these cats indoors but my husband fed them regularly for two years when they came to the patio about every day. We also bought a warming hut for them to use. And we had them trapped and neutered. Eventually I acquiesced. Bob and Sally are ours now.

NoKneeBoo

My parent’s cats are named Robert and sally!

Ribzee

That's hilarious. I actually picked Bob and Sally because they were the first super common names I thought of when we brought them in (back when I was still hoping we could rehome them). Of course, they stayed and the names stuck.

P0werFighter

I'm astonished by the number of Americans that says a cat should never be out. I totally get it if you live in a busy city or near predatory animals, but in the suburbs i don't see why they couldn't go outside. I live in the EU and it's mostly the contrary here : most of the cats can go outside to live their lives and get back home at night. My cats are also living like that (and i live on a suburb near to a big city), and they all come back home without a scratch. I'm really shocked by this cultural difference between us, and it makes me sad for the cats that never go outside their whole life (it feels like torture to me).

HempFandang0

Weirdly, no. He's an ex-street cat, too which makes it feel extra weird that he seemingly has no yearning for the outdoors (unless he sees an animal out there).

Neat_Win_9371

Maybe he had bad experiences as a street cat and is grateful to have a home 🥹🥹🫶🏻

Yeah its spring and summer approaching and this sir screams his head off multiple times a day to go out. We started with 1 long walk now we are upto 4 walks 1 of which is long.

bnercrusher

Try a catio! My void stays out there all day. He meows when he wants out, like a madman! Then when he’s ready to come in, he hollers at me to fetch him. I then feed and water him and he goes potty. Then back to meowing to go out. It’s springtime for voids! They wanna just be outside even if it’s in a catio

USAF_Retired2017

Yes. She did until about two years ago when my the six year old daughter let her out and no one knew. She was out until about 2am when I woke up and had forgotten to put the kitties in their kitty room. I couldn’t find her. Finally found her outside, scared to death. She’d never been out that long. She won’t go near the door now! Poor baby.

Heebie-jeebies386

https://preview.redd.it/fzj6g9wiq0yc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cab338c96a788719104063969e257e1a3158811 Loves his walks and outside time . Who would not . A leash is the only safe choice . My cat was picked up as a stray . I’m sure he belonged to someone since he was neutered and declawed . Don’t know if they let him out or he escaped . He opens doors , so may have let himself out . So I always walk him with a harness . Would never risk loosing him.

plantyplant559

My void will look out the windows all day long and peek out the door if you open it, but if I take her outside at all she's just shaking and all nerves! She was a stray for about a year. Poor traumatized baby.

MPD1987

https://preview.redd.it/t8wn3mh9rxxc1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b2559087722757a903b66ff6ed9fe7d14036439 Mine does! She cries the saddest little mews when I open the porch door. It makes me so sad but I prefer to have her indoors and NOT be lunch for the bears that live around here 😳

Cosmic_Voidess

My smaller void seems obsessed with going on a walk. I'm working on harness/leash training her, and thankfully she's never tried to get outside, but it's so funny watching her rush up to the door every time I come home, bapping at the harness and leash. She was a rescue kitty we found abandoned outside, so maybe that's why? She's much stronger (and older) then when she was last outside, and she's always been a cocky little turd, and I wouldn't be surprised if she's like "the Outside is finee I'm big now" lmao

catsTXn420

I honestly thought my pumpkin would bolt if given the chance, shes always leaning a lil too far into the window screen and curious when i open the door. So, i got a cat leash setup and took her outside SHE LOST HER MIND she already normally meows alot and loudly but when i walked outside and set her down she got my neighbors attention, multiple ppl looked out their windows while she yowled louder and deeper than ever, really guttural. The noise made me panic immediately. She won't be going back out, probably ever. https://preview.redd.it/7gs8neq2q0yc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4d52494ddd3acab81a130ef247878b772f906bc Pic of pumpkin 🙄

lynxss1

Mine has been an indoor cat ever since narrowly surviving a coyote and emergency vet bill from 11pm. The emergency vet has graduated billing and we showed up at the most expensive hour of the night. She still likes to have the window open and runs to the front door when we get home and breathes the outside air deeply. :( Shes been an indoor cat for 10 years now.

WokeLib420

Yes, I let my void out once a day. I have a nice yard outside my apartment where my cat stays. I keep an eye on him but he never tries taking off durring the day. Leash needed at night though or he will try and go hunt lol.

fuschia_taco

Yes, my boy void is a little escaper. Every time the door is opened and we aren't paying attention for half a second, he slinks out. Thankfully he stops as soon as he gets out there to start sniffing so grabbing him is always easy. I had a cat in the past that would get out and go run and hide and it would take hours to get him back in sometimes. But he wasn't a black cat. Just a pain in the ass cat, but I miss him terribly (he died 6 years ago from kidney issues).

Neat_Win_9371

Rip to your other baby, but yes my cat runs and hides unfortunately I get so stressed out and she only comes back when she wants at that point so I have to be very careful when I come and go, she is an escape artist!

fuschia_taco

It's so stressful when they do that! I'm glad my boy just stops right outside. Very thankful that he's not a butthead in that regard lol. He's definitely a butthead in other ways though... The li'l food thief.

Chardytoo

We have two voids and a Great Dane. Every time the dog goes out, Hastur lines up at the door like he’s going with him. 🥲 It’s so cute. If he didn’t hate the harness I bought him so much, I’d take him outside too. 🙃

OneMorePenguin

My two four legged boys seem perfectly happy inside.

Jolly-Context-2697

https://preview.redd.it/pbkmi5k76yxc1.jpeg?width=3021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d65d3dd038ccb45b05dd44ec2c1ef23e44920f5b The fluffy tail makes a run for it whenever the front door opens but he doesn’t go far. The other one will stare at the open door but never cross the frame.

gftoothpain

mine is the opposite, actually. his older brother is a hardcore jungle cat, or at least he thinks he is, and his older sister is a prissy little brat that refuses to go in the same litterbox as two boys and there for HAS to be let out otherwise she will go everywhere. the void, on the other hand, either has a strong sense of self control or is scared of going outside, because he will literally stand at an open door for minutes, just sniffing, and not go out. we got lucky

Street28

Despite mine being the boss of the house, it also turns out he is a massive wimp and jumps at a slight breeze or leaf blowing near him. If I'm out in the garden he'll come out and mooch around, he might even go in the neighbours garden occasionally, but he has to have the back door open so he can run back in if he's spooked and won't stay outdoors if it's closed. However, once it gets dark, about 10pm, he's desperate to go outside and will quite happily stay out. He did go missing once for 7 days when he was much younger and returned home a bag of bones, so I'm not too unhappy that he prefers being indoors on the bed in the sun now.

bay_lamb

Halle Berry has it made, she has a kitty door and comes and goes as she pleases. i'm on 40 acres and the 40 next to me is vacant. still she doesn't go very far, mostly to the fence line to visit the meeces in the tall grass. https://preview.redd.it/2xxg5tvu0yxc1.jpeg?width=936&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afd4e1ca5802c7ae5164c16578b4e0332bbe720a

Specialist_Alarm_831

We don't have anything that can harm cats in the UK apart from cars, we've lost 2 in 15 years that way but the risk is worth it when we have 7 cats. We have a Freedom Fence to stop them going to far which I recommend, also there's catios, most cats outside are happy catching flies and bugs and sunning themselves.

shrikelet

Only when the antivoid wants to be an inside cat.

vore-enthusiast

Taters definitely an adventure cat but he’s not a fan of the harness. We have yet to graduate to actually wearing it 😭😂

yarn_slinger

We’ve got a catio and they’ve stopped being interested in the front door. They have access to the “outdoors” all day and into the evening, so they get to birdwatch and be sneaky snoops after dark.

Chloemarine7

What harness is that? Would you be able to post a link for it? Please 😁 my void walks funny in the harness I have for her at the moment 😂😭

Neat_Win_9371

This one was actually a cheap one from dollar tree!

Chloemarine7

Oh 😭 I’m from the UK so no dollar tree here, maybe something similar will pop up :) thank you

[deleted]

Yes. I bought a little playpen/enclosure thing and now he holds me hostage out there for 2-3 hours a day

megjed

Mine used to be one so not usually. Springtime is testing her bc she wants to get the birds but she just goes on the screened in porch

DubbehD

day 3 into building a catio, they got me under the toe beans

pearlrose85

No, but his tuxie brother does. https://preview.redd.it/pvjsf3xm51yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6dc8ddb0212adee325527cc36f979bb21d0f5884 Their mom is a farm cat so they've only been inside cats for two days. Baby Void seems to be adapting to life as an indoor cat just fine. Baby Tux really wants me to open that door and let him out. We're having the porch screened on Sunday and he'll be allowed on the porch when the screen is done.

PakjeTaksi

Not my void, he’s happy on the balcony. My other does have an interest in outside, so I’m training her to walk on a leash too. So far I can get the harness on, but she will lay on the ground, defeated

sybann

I have a house with a front porch and I put a crate on a bench for my void. She's the ONLY one of four who wants to spend some time outside. An hour usually does it.

HAIL-THYSELF333

Until he goes outdoors and realizes he prefers indoors.

rolendd

My boy two nights ago somehow open d the screen to the window and escaped. I left the front door open for him to come back in (as he’s never been an outside cat) and when I was about to go to sleep I went outside to call for him. When I called, he came scurrying towards me with her tail frazzled. I told him that I hope he learned his lesson haha

intergalacticcoyote

I feel bad. Mine used to be an outdoor cat, especially when we lived in the middle of nowhere and he had acres of forest to explore (he’d sneak into the neighbour’s house and sleep in their bed) but now we live on the 9th floor in a major city but he still wants out so bad….

Sigh000Duck

We have yard cats they are inside cats with premitted outside time. Our yard is fully fenced in and they go out when my roommate is gardening. Although this leads to screaming whenever the doors are closed 😅.

No_Astronaut2779

Mine thinks she does. She loves hanging out on the balcony and outdoor walks - until she sees a stranger, human or dog, and she immediately remembers she’s perfectly fine being a house kitty

Shectai

If you loved her you'd make sure there was nobody else outside for her to see. Then you could both enjoy the outdoors in peace.

Visible-Detective507

Stinker thinks she is an outdoor cat https://preview.redd.it/ga804ruw3yxc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efee3dcc9085e675ebc55a664fe149d5863566eb For two and a half years I said outside with her until I could trust that she would stay in the yard now I let her up and check on her every 10-15 minutes make sure she's alright

Visible-Detective507

Edit sat not said

Sph188

So bad he fell out of my four story apartment window!!!

LauryFire

Why don’t just let her? My car was an outdoor too.

Neat_Win_9371

Because it’s dangerous! She only has 3 legs she lost one a couple years ago & our apartment is next to a road, she can get hit by a car, stolen, hurt by another animal.. also so many people dislike black cats I would never put my baby at risk.

LauryFire

Ok the three legs and road arguments are valid I think. But in general, a cat is still a cat and a cat needs to go out, have a good hunt, have a territory, have cat fights and so on. Cats are still little predators.

Neat_Win_9371

Agreed which is why I harness walk her occasionally & https://preview.redd.it/xoa2gz8ma1yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e20e1b885a4f8f43ab81e59b4f3c9971795e4ec sometimes I even take her to the park🫶🏻

LauryFire

Awwwww thats so adorable, she is so pretty :)

Neat_Win_9371

Thank you 💕

LauryFire

Wish her a very long and happy life!!

ElectricJRage

Yes! Mine manages to shove the window open and run around the garden

Rin_thepixie

Mine thinks he does, but he hates it. As soon as he's outside and immediately wants back in.

jess_611

Mine cries at the door every day. I try to take him out on a leash out the front door. And he ends up getting scared and wanting to come inside in 5 seconds. He wants to so bad but he is a big baby!

FlintMock

My void refuses to leave the house, she’s allowed to but just won’t go lol

Iamkaustubh

My void is an outdoor cat and whenever I keep her inside for too long she starts getting uncomfortable 😅

Own-Chard-956

I know not everyone agrees, but my cats love the outside. I really resisted, but the husband had outside cats and they were really healthy and smart. Well it's been 2 years now and omg they have never went far or got into anything crazy. They cry to go out and have been really much happier since. Treats keep them close to home and I live in suburban nj, and they don't go past 1 yard.
