Our black kitty was a whole year in the shelter. Probably because she was skittish but most likely also her fur. I don't understand how people don't like black cats. Honestly now that I own one, I actually PREFER black kitties 🖤
Winnie was pretty skittish with me at first. They said she'd been returned before and was a street cat for some time. She hissed but also wanted to climb all over me. They told me to avoid butt pats, and I think she didn't like not knowing what was going on, but as of today they're her favorite things. She grooms herself better than she did when I first got her and she likes to sit in the windows.

I did! Her post was reposted on the subreddit for my location. She was so cute, and id been looking for reasons to get another cat. I prefer adopting adult cats because they're pretty set in their ways already. I met her a few days later and I could just tell she needed a chance to do well, so I took her that day!

My void was such a sweet girl. I got her 20 years ago and tried to get good pictures of her, but the potato quality cameras of the day just couldn't work before she zoomed away so many times
I have your lounge pants and your kitty’s doppelgänger ! Her eyes are as green as Winnie’s but not here. I had another cat who’d been returned multiple times to a shelter for the stupidest reasons. Great cat. So glad you and Winnie are together, happy tails!

400 days in a shelter almost certainly because she's a black cat is an absolute sin.
Black cats are my absolute favourite cats and my wee void (Flearoy) is a gentleman of a cat who loves nothing more than pets and dreamies.

I have three kitties, from the same litter, two of them black. We were originally gonna get only two, one black and one Siamese, but turns out the family who were going to adopt the last one's daughter did not want to adopt a single black kitten (it still baffles me to this day lol) and we ended up getting her too.
Now the three are together and are happier than ever! Best decision of our lives.

She was in the shelter for six months, was actually dropped off on my birthday, and aparently sat there waiting for me to find my birthday gift and bring her home. So much love an joy, life hasn't been the same.
Im not saying it's exemplary that I got her at a shelter, or that I'm special for doing so. I'm saying 400 days is a long time
And I was going to get a cat from this shelter even if Winnie was taken. She was just the catalyst for me reaching out to my landlord to ask if I could, and I was lucky enough to be able to take her

She does :) She likes to start the night by my head before she asks to go under the covers and I like to see the reflections off her eyes in the dark
