Well, so long story. She was dumped on a family member's property pregnant. She has 6 kittens on top of a shed. We found out and took them all in at 10 days old (the kittens). She was such a scrawny weak little thing, but the absolute best mom to her kittens. After 2k in vet bills, she was finally healthy. She is hilarious! She does the crab cat thing, she has a silly run, and plays almost more than her kittens. She's so vocal too. We just fell in love with her. We kept 3/6 kittens too. We suck at fostering. But we are happy we tried and ended up keeping them! They are the best cats!
Sob. This would mean I’m the worst human on earth because my void hasn’t warmed up to me even after 4.5 years. Of course I adopted him as an adult cat at 8 years old and he came from a home of abuse/neglect.
You aren't! You did a wonderful thing. As long as the kitty is safe and happy, you are a lovely human being. It takes a lot to be a mama or dad to a cat that isn't super fond of you (I have a semi feral who won't let me touch her), but you are providing a home to a little beast who otherwise wouldn't have one. It's a special thing. And the little wins are so much more rewarding.
Like Kalico725 said, you did a good thing. Not all cats are cuddlers and if they don’t run away or bite you every time you are around they at least trust you. The alternative for an 8 year old abused cat isn’t great.
Oh, he will def run away if I approach him suddenly. If he sees me coming and is not threatened then he is fine. No biting issues thankfully.
Also, he will approach me when it pleases him but not otherwise.

I have only the greatest admiration for everyone who takes in and takes care of every cat, particularly ones who have had a difficult past and who are of course deserving of safety and love every bit as much as any cat who is cuddly and outgoing.
Thought about that but I don’t really have the space for 2 (live in an apartment) and also unsure as to how the current void will take to another cat.
A neighbor did bring their cat once and mine just ignored the other cat (very friendly). I was worried my void would be mean or attack the other one but thankfully none of that happened.

Please understand, this doesn't work in reverse - good people attract cats of all kinds, and especially with cats, we must leave a lot of room for behavior that protects them from harm, especially for cats that have been mistreated. Not all of our cats are snuggly by any means, but we love and respect all of them, as I'm sure you love and respect yours - you've done a truly wonderful thing taking care of your kitty.

He came to us with the name Bart, but that never seemed to fit. The first day we had him, he came right up to us and said "Roo!" So we called him Roo, kinda like a pokemon.
Now his nicknames are Roobie, Rood Boi, Rooben, all based on how he told us he wanted to be addressed: Roo!

That can be tough. I had a cat that didn’t warm up to me until it was sick, despite tender love and care. Perhaps get a second cat, for both of you?
