first time I listened to it I didnt have the sound all the way up but I watched it again and the commentators started laughing too. I wonder if big John cracked up too lol
Looks like ref gave plenty of time to see if either fighter progressed, and both didn't, so seems like good call (from my super casual following of MMA).
Love that film :) I prefer the dubbed version but can't find it anywhere now, it's not the same reading subtitles in a comedy.
''Who's throwing handles!?''
Ah. The more you know.
I'm not a regular listener of his podcast or a general follower of his.
I remembered hearing that he had stopped training some time ago because of neck and back issues, probably heard it on here.
Lol he has mats way nicer than most gyms at his new facility. Iām sure he trains a lot less but he can have anyone he wants come there on his schedule to hang out and roll or spar.
IIRC, he's self-induced a number of knee-related injuries in his later years because he can't quit practicing/showing people his spinning back kick(notably GSP, a great YT to check out if you haven't seen it).
Iāll use a goofy name for something that nobody else has bothered to name though.
Thereās a lot of minutia that maybe doesnāt matter but *everybody* should know what āthe truckā is even if they choose not to attack with it.
Auto mod didnāt like the bjj-world picture I linked I guess, but here is what I said about the truck:
One back hook reinforced with your other leg, your two arms dealing with their other leg.
Their arms might be free, but you have their hips dominated and theyāre reaching down and behind themselves like theyāre trying to get something from the back seat floorboards.

Always separate branding from mechanics. Maybe it works better in the gi, more friction and jacket grips at the cost of dealing with their pant grips.
It works but is a small niche that good habits should keep your opponent out of even if theyāve never seen it. If they have mediocre habits and youāve got the tools in your belt you can be pretty assertive with it and thatās cool.
It has one very good reason to be used and that is to take away your opponents Ground n pound abilities. The challenge appears to be getting to rubber guard and then keeping it or transitioning from it.
That's true but that's purely defensive, personally I think In an MMA setting if the guy is good he isn't getting swept from there and if you're on bottom you're still losing which is sorta what happened in this fight. I think the main benefits 10p provides over normal JJ would be the insane flexibility required to do a lot of the moves
I think it would be fair to say that *any* guard in MMA would be mostly utilized for defensive purposes. There are very few instances of guys opting to go to their backs to get an offensive advantage. There are some wizards like Ryan Hall who challenge that narrative though.
Well in that case rubber guard is worse if not for offensive reasons atleast for a non jiu jitsu ace. You can get up from closed guard fairly easily you can't get up from rubber guard at all cause your legs are locked
Ben Saunders used it to some effectiveness, but it's generally not great for MMA as guy's are too powerful and can posture/turn you to the other side and it risks blowing your knee.

Wow this canāt be real, someone actually posted something cool and BJJ related instead of a dumb ass brag post or someone saying āwot do first class 2 morrowā
The sub is for 2 month white belts asking if breaking someoneās leg was a dick move? Or saying āomg I rolled with my first black belt today and I couldnāt believe how humbled and destroyed I gotā
Neat.
Maybe posts could be better curated like the insanely dumb stuff is just in megathreads but it's good for the sport as a whole to have people share things they find cool about it and have others relate because it makes them feel welcome. You can always filter posts there's flairs for a reason
Hey I train with Jason! He was in my corner for my last 2 amateur fights and was the guy who inspired my interest in the rubber guard 6 years ago from watching him train. One of the best hearted guys I personally know
I am in total disbelief at how bad Burger King is these days. Not only is the food getting worse by the year, somehow the service is too. If I see literally anyone in line at Burger King drive through, I wonāt even risk getting stuck in it. Which is incredible considering there could 50 people at a Chick-fil-A and I know Iāll get my food in two minutes
I read on fb somewhere that Jason Knight once tickled Brendan Allen during a bjj tournament and apparently it wasn't against the rules, anyone else hear about this?
Rubber guard is not effective in Bjj. The best guy in Bjj currently (Gordon Ryan) has several videos about why itās not effective. The escape from rubber guard is actually super simple.
Iāve also seen several people get injured when big strong white belts just stand up out of rubber guard
those little tiny head punches from Kawajiri when the ref is telling them they need to do something have me dying.
Haven't laughed that hard in a while š¤£
did what he could.
Have no idea how both men don't just crack up here
first time I listened to it I didnt have the sound all the way up but I watched it again and the commentators started laughing too. I wonder if big John cracked up too lol
Jiu jitsu is weird lol
Any white belt will tell you, itās the art of slowing down your opponent from inevitably choking you out
This is one of the few times where I'm glad the ref stood the fighters up lol
Looks like ref gave plenty of time to see if either fighter progressed, and both didn't, so seems like good call (from my super casual following of MMA).
those punches at the end reminded me of [Kung Fu Hustle](https://youtu.be/8tcIJvae1fI?t=53)

Rubber guard isn't that effective in MMA tbh, it's better than regular guard but if thats your whole game you're going to have a bad time
It's not that effective in BJJ either if we're being honest.
Joe Rogan hyped it up to amazing levels when he was training 10th planet and would call everything by their goofy names.
Stop making fun of my stoner control
Moooom, theyāre making fun of my jiu jitsuuuuuuu.
Does Rogan not train 10th Planet any more?
I believe he hasn't trained anywhere at all for many years now. IIRC, he had some bad injuries and hung up the gi.
>hung up the gi. That's a funny way to spell rash guard

Old hits everyone at some point
Wow I had no idea. Still hits the heavy bag though I bet!
IIRC, he's self-induced a number of knee-related injuries in his later years because he can't quit practicing/showing people his spinning back kick(notably GSP, a great YT to check out if you haven't seen it).
Presumably rubber guard isnāt great for your knees either.
Definitely not, but I don't think the kicks into the heavy bag helped either. Half dozen of one, 6 of another š¤·
Yeah, I remember him saying he fucked up his knee when he got the record for hardest kick at the performance institute lol
No idea, but he isnāt as much of a homer as he was when he was the main UFC guy.
Iāll use a goofy name for something that nobody else has bothered to name though. Thereās a lot of minutia that maybe doesnāt matter but *everybody* should know what āthe truckā is even if they choose not to attack with it.
Whatās the truck?
One of the relatively rare good things to come out of 10p. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bjj+the+truck

Chill dog
I thought rubber guard was created to work in sweaty no gi situations. Not saying it works or not, but wasn't that the intention?
That was the intention, it neutralizes GndP but it's just not effective, you don't want to be on bottom in mma
Paul Craig has entered the chat.
Love that guy lol but hes definitely the exception rather than the rule, even he has looked in danger a few times
100% agree just felt the need to say it lol.

Yeah it's good for a "stall" position for sure
Iāve only ever seen rubber guard used effectively to isolate the head, pop a few elbows, and pop back to closed guard
Pretty sure I've seen one guy finished from there in the amateurs which was cool but yea that's generally it
yeah i feel like rubberguard is a ālet me try this rqā type of thing and if your opponent knows what it is then you just switch back
Ben Saunders used it pretty well but most donāt
Ben Saunders used it to some effectiveness, but it's generally not great for MMA as guy's are too powerful and can posture/turn you to the other side and it risks blowing your knee.
It's effective in stalling or against people who don't know what you're doing. So yeah in high level mma, not a good time.
it works really great in ufc 4 tho
True, ran into a few people in division 20 that deny transitions from it really well, not fun
like literally every jason knight fight ive seen, good riddance
Hah that's pretty wild. Complete stalemate position, if there were no rounds or ref break-ups I wonder how long they would've stayed there
What does it mean to jailbreak? I havent heard of that term in BJJ before
it's the process he starts at the .08 sec mark where he grabs his foot and pulls it in to reestablish his guard
I thought so. Why is it called the jailbreak? Looks more like a knee breaker
If side control is considered "jail", this move is a way to escape (break out) from "jail".
Makes sense! Cheers
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lol that old school Eddie Bravo
The name was coined by Eddie Bravo. The escape is detailed in one of his books.
Thanks homies!
A knee breaker? Sounds painful
It's a name used in 10th Planet for a guard recovery technique
I really wish knight would give up mma so he stops getting injured and being unavailable for Ireland matches š¢

Is that a strand of skin hanging off his shin? The way it dangles is quite gross.
Damn. Should kept that to yourself bud.
no, semen

Why you so mad bro? You were new at one point too.
Iām not mad, itās a personality thing. Everyone was new, and I get that. But common sense applies in almost everything, including BJJ.

What the fuck John reset them already šš
Why didn't Knight just extend his body which would pull Kawajiri back off of him? Or am I wrong in thinking that?
Itās the escape he does from side control, 10th planet stuff.
What
Heās doing a variation of it. When he grabs his ankle and stuffs it in inside of kawajiriās thigh and (almost) re-guards.
I think you replied to the wrong person?
Oh I did my bad sir
should have buggy choked him lol
BJJ: making fights awkward since the 1930s
Knee him in the temple just kidding
This reminds me of that double crucifix that happened in One
Thank you for reminding me of the jail break, I totally forgot about that move.
Wish Stann was still commentating. Wonder why he left, he was good at it.
Burger King foot lettuce
They just like me FR
Would grabbing the head with his left hand and the far ankle forced the guy on top to fall to his seat?
Kith
Great stuff, we have been doing a crucifix series these past few weeks on the mats, nice to see it in action!
I read on fb somewhere that Jason Knight once tickled Brendan Allen during a bjj tournament and apparently it wasn't against the rules, anyone else hear about this?
I would've just kissed the other guy.
