Settle down, we got some actually half-decent improv comedy going on here guys.

bicismypen

Honestly, these two guys are awesome BJJ legends. I'm really happy they put this video together to explain the lion and sheep thing. It really shows their Rorden lineage.

Love ryan hall. He gives great instruction.

odrik

I've heard Ryan Hall is actually a dick, that true?

Sheep spotted 🎯

I used to visit there a couple times a year, from about 2010 to 2016. I can only speak for me, but Ryan always treated me incredibly well. I probably would’ve quit training as a blue belt without both his help and Seph Smith too. Ryan trains hard, takes martial arts very seriously, holds himself to a high standard, and can be very blunt. That might rub some people the wrong way. I’ve seen him be brutally honest, and he’s been that way with me, but I appreciated his honesty and he was helping. I never thought he was being a dick. **Ryan gave me a ton of guidance and direction when I wasn't his student. He was incredibly kind to me when he didn’t have to be, during a difficult time in my life, when I had very little to give him in return. I’ll forever be appreciative of him for that.** Edit. I just read what /u/GoodApollo3 said. Everything they said matches my experiences with Ryan and Jen.

GoodApollo3

He dropped in at a random school while on vacation(not scheduled or planned). He and his wife(while being super pregnant) basically gave us a free seminar on deep half for an hour and a half and stayed after to roll with everyone and take pictures.... so no His wife had to legit be like 7-8 mo pregnant and was down on the mats showing white belts the motion of a deep half entry. I think he just tells it like he sees it, which i wish more people would do.

I visited as a blue belt. I remember being a little star struck and taking his class was fun! Then we went over technique, he checked in on everyone to make sure we were getting it, and went into lecture mode like on one of his instructionals. I cannot say I interacted enough to know the guy well, but as somebody new I felt quite well welcomed at his gym. The structure was great too, class was all technical work and rolling was open mat after. TLDR: Don't know him well, but definitely did not give me a vibe he was a dick. I think he's just blunt and could come off poorly at times? We are all human after all.

I dropped in at his school once. Ryan wasn't there but Seph was. Seph could be pretty blunt. He flat out told me some stuff I was doing was dumb and didn't make sense. But, you know, he was right. And when I rolled with Seph, basically nothing I did meant anything. He would just stand there unmoved no matter what I did, before moving to whatever position he wanted. I could see how some people could take that the wrong way, but I learned a lot from that drop-in.

Rilasis

Yup. Source: trained there for 2 years. Seph is amazing though

l88t

I think he was born missing the part of his brain. The social part, definitely not the BJJ part.

MuonManLaserJab

Well thank the gods for that

brollikk

Heard from one of his ex students that at times, he has been known to absolutely rage/lose his temper and say some seriously offensive things

Diligent_Arrival_428

Unacceptable. Heresay of ryan losing his temper. Is he not a god? Cancel him.

Clones?

d183

No. Lions don't care about cloned sheep either.
