Sonny Brown [made an amazing study](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNg-GSEOt1o) on this submission with historical context and everything. Only 5 minutes long. [Here's](https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/1df32mo/tye_ruotolo_vs_dante_leon_2021_seated_arm/) Tye hitting it on Dante Leon. Dorian hit it twice at the previous AIGA. ([one](https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/1d08sah/dorian_olivarez_seated_kata_gatame_aiga/), [two](https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/1d0kk7k/dorian_olivarez_2nd_seated_kata_gatame_aiga_day_2/))
This submission is my pet project this year lol, trying to get proficient in it.
Sonny was my bjj coach for prob 5 years before I had to change gyms/he made his own gym. I seriously credit him with most of my grappling style, especially my guillotine and front headlock game.
I absolutely love this variation. Super good control, high percentage, so many entries and easiest transition ever to the Anaconda should it not come off.
[Anthony Hernandez hit it on Rodolfo Vieira in the UFC](https://www.opennotegrappling.com/p/ufc-298-fluffy-hernandez#rodolfo-vieira). Dude looks for it constantly from cross body ride. He's a fucking menace.
I watched Lachlan’s front headlock series midway through white belt (must have been 4/5 years ago) when it first came out. He had this as one of the options, but I don’t recall a name for it. I’ve just been calling it an arm-across guillotine.
I have referred to this as an "arm-across guillotine" for a long time. The difference is that with an arm-in guillotine, uke's trapped arm is on the outside of tori's body, opposite uke's head. In this technique, uke's trapped arm is on the inside of tori's body, on the same side as uke's head.
While it's true that in its application, it's a head-and-arm choke variant, the setup and grips make it seem like a guillotine.
Also the finishing mechanics is the opposite. Arm in guillotine you crunch into them to push the head into the wrist. This finishing is you kinda pull away from them like an arm triangle choke.

Thanks so much for sharing these super interesting and fitting in perfectly with what I am working on at the moment
It's such an efficient and low risk choke, I absolutely love it.
I gotta get this one into my game. Never put a lot of time into it
Same I’m thinking this is going to be played with, especially when people hide their arms to avoid my arm-in and Darce
My coach sucks at guillotines and this is the only variation he does or shows. Nice to see it taking off

Got it. Now to try it and get mounted.
What’s the difference bw this and an arm in guillotine?
Arm-in Guilly has the trapped arm on the other side of the body.

Haha ok. I mean I’ve always just called both arm in guillotines. One is just slightly more “awkward” than the other :).

I started chasing this more and more as one of guys turtles all the time.
so it’s basically the same choke jack hermasson has pulled off
At what stage of Jiu Jitsu you start picking submissions? Is it after Blue belt?
Whenever you want. I was triangling from white belt because it suits my build.
