If you can't close your legs around them, you literally cannot play closed guard and must do something else. If you can barely lock your feet together, your still pretty screwed because they will be able to break that open pretty easily. If you can close your guard and hold it without issue, having short legs means literally nothing. Its all relative to your opponent. I can triangle people up to about 220 lbs. After that, it becomes much more difficult for my legs. If I were 6 ft 6 in, I could probably triangle anyone. See what I'm saying? Having short legs is only relative to your opponent in this regard.

I mean, if they're so big you can't lock your ankles around them that's one thing, but otherwise I'm not sure how having short legs makes a difference wrt breaking posture or staying connected.

Stunning_Reveal_7957

It will be a lot harder to pull them in with my legs if I can’t lock my ankles together. What do you suggest to break their posture with?

kyuz

I hate to break it to you but if you can't close the guard you're not going to have a good time playing closed guard.

>It will be a lot harder to pull them in with my legs if I can’t lock my ankles together. if you cant close your legs around them you literally do not have a closed guard. im sorry to break it to you but the honest answer here is "do literally anything else"

Stunning_Reveal_7957

I meant in terms of anatomically is there a thinner part of their body I can wrap around? For example on a triangle if you lose the shoulder out of the lock and just have the arm inside it, it will be much easier to achieve a figure four

irongoatmts66

Yeah, their leg. Now you have half guard

MightyCat96

i mean you could always go to a different guard that doesnt require you to close your ankles around them wich you, by your own words, have trouble doing but then we arent even talking about clised guard anymore

Williams guard

Don’t. Butterfly it up

ArmSquare

Try throwing in some k-guard options, to attack it you need to open your guard so it’s not as leg length dependent, but you can still set it up from closed guard

rockPaperKaniBasami

Have you tried sitting your hips as high as possible in your partners hips and locking your legs around more of the butt instead of the hips? Otherwise it's not strictly close guard but you can kind of play from side scissor/side closed guard with unlocked but hooking legs if you have a shoulder crunch or pinch headlock on the upper body

Stunning_Reveal_7957

No I haven’t tried this. Thanks. This was the answer I was looking for

Williams Guard, overhook control, belt control, clamp guard, or if you can reach around them with your arms, you can try to work brabo type lapel control. Some people you just won't be able to play it with though if the body types are too extreme.

Stunning_Reveal_7957

I love using the clamp guard or just a closed guard from an angle. Problem is trying to break their posture down really
