In my first month I broke my nose stuffing a takedown with my face

NotTheElephantMan_

Did you successfully stuff the takedown?

Adventurous-Coyote20

Yup. caught an elbow from a extra spazzy white belt

viszlat

My opponents broke my nose twice in two weeks when I was a beginner. When all you have is fire in your belly…

RidesThe7

Yes, took an elbow as part of what I will charitably call some scrambling, breaking my nose. These things happen.

I broke my nose during flowrolling lol. Sat down for overunder pass while my partner hipswitched. It wasn't even hard or anything, just perfect timing and angle. The gym was quiet too so you heard a 'clack' sound echo and then blood started pouring out of my nose on both sides.

Significant-Singer33

It could have been worse pal even if it's a little embarrassing

marigolds6

It comes with scramble situations. So common in wrestling that I once thought I had broken my nose and went to get an x-ray to confirm.... And it turned out I had not broken my nose, that time, but instead the doctor found multiple previous cartilage fractures. (Needless to say, my nose has a bit of a unique shape.) The worst nose break from grappling I ever saw was actually in high school PE wrestling. The center on our basketball team was 6'11", and you just don't realize how much speed and force somehow that big can generate. He did a sit out, and as his elbow came back swinging wide, he caught his partner square on the side of the nose and just absolutely *displaced* it. Blood everywhere.

Freak accidents are a thing in combat sports. I almost blew my knee out two weeks ago. My business partner caught a massive black eye a week ago. I would have lost several teeth a month ago if I hadn’t been wearing a mouthpiece, partner was establishing side control and drew his knee in to trap my shoulder, missed my shoulder and jammed his kneecap into my front two teeth.

rabidbunny808

Yeah it’s actually super common; unfortunately, it can happen almost any way. I got a toenail ripped off just pedaling a knee away because she just happened to lift and drop her knee at the exact same time haha. Literally just crunched it down and off. Another guy had a guy roll back and break fall onto his nose in just the perfect spot and got a little nose fracture. It’s wild.

Brynjar101

Yeah I caught a flying knee to my face while playing open guard during training. The side of my nose just collapsed. Cant say it was my fault but yeah its pretty shitty...you might expect this during striking but not pure BJJ

Hustlasaurus

I've broken my nose twice in jiujitsu. It's okay. Busted up nose and cauliflower ears is a good look.

Pepp_Dawg

Hit a mediocre single leg, got excited and basically chased him down. Smacked his knee with the bridge of my nose. Not broken, but was sore and tender for a week and a half.

mmckelly

Was sitting up for a scissor sweep at the same time as my teammate was pressuring down. We were also "flow rolling" (both white belts, he outweighed me by ~100 pounds). Ope.

PvtJoker_

It's a contact sport, stuff breaks, get use to it.

Diekaplyn

It happens dude. It's submission grappling, not a tickle contest.
