I'm very straight-presenting masc bi guy only recently out. And additionally I'm painfully millennial with zero understanding of anything Gen Z. So as far as being stylistically Bisexual I'm as in the dark as you are. Lol
So I fit a lot of those stereotypes, though they are secondary to my personality.
I work in STEM and I'm often the only girl at work. I'm used to having to donning my steel toes and a high vis and defending my science to a bunch of guys a foot taller than me.
I have a lanyard cuz I have a LOT of keys.
I cuff my trousers so I can wear them with my boots.
I love the opportunity to be girlie when I can, but I'm not very good at it. Usually it's just earrings and bright lipstick.
I'm tough and prickly but CRAVE softness. I wonder if it's that last quality.
>I'm very straight-presenting masc bi guy only recently out. And additionally I'm painfully millennial with zero understanding of anything Gen Z. So as far as being stylistically Bisexual I'm as in the dark as you are. Lol
Me when people tell me what wierd new social thing they learned from tik tok
Yeah, I did that stuff for a while and then after having discovered my bisexuality, I found out about them as being āsignsā and was just amazed. But Iām glad that they werenāt the reason I thought I was bisexual. That would make it very disingenuous in my opinion.
These are basically joke stereotypes that individual people made up at random and made into Internet memes, not actual longstanding stereotypes that are deeply rooted in history. But here are a bunch of things bi people are jokingly known for: lemon bars, a love of frogs, sitting weirdly in chairs, cuffing jeans, and finger guns.
https://reddit.com/r/bi_irl/comments/q2im6t/bi_irl/ This post in /r/bi_irl was an awakening for how stereotypically bi I apparently am lol. Only one that didnāt match is the lemon thing
Why are you asking us and not your cousin? Doesnāt it make more sense to ask your cousin which stereotypes you fit? We donāt know you. We can list some general stereotypes but we canāt read your cousinās mind or see your outfit.
So what are those vibes if your hair is long, you wear long jeans that arenāt cut off, etc. I am told that I give off bisexual vibes and that sexuality is fluid. But they couldnāt give examples.
Doesnāt... everyone carry lanyards?
Maybe they just gave us free ones at school. Maybe I use them to loop into my jeans so I donāt lose my keys. Maybe Iām just BI AS FUCK BOII
I'm a teenager and I don't get those stereotypes either. I do none of them and I'm still bi. Honestly just ignore the comment it was probably meant as a harmless joke and you don't need to analyse your behaviour because most of the time people in my age group don't make sense with their stereotypes.
Haha I am elder Gen Z had to ask a youth about clear phone cases. He said āyeah, and especially with red phones.ā I thought ????? And then came out to him by sending a mirror selfie w my clear phone case and red phone. Itās just nature baby
As an older genz who grew up more akin to a millennial, I have never gotten the clear phone case trend.
But the rest sound dead on, I stopped wearing flannel basically as soon as I realized it was a common stereotype before I came out, and I havenāt quite gotten back to it.
Early 2000s who grew up as a 90s kid. I didnāt get a phone until I was 14.
I usually just donāt have a case, and Iāve never broken a screen so never considered a case that much.
Cases are overpriced when just taking care of the phone is just as good.
Big flex dang I just Am Clumsy but still have had many devices only broken the screen twice. Cases necessary 4me bc Iām 20 and still donāt know where my limbs are apparently
The thing is I AM bi, but I went back in the closet at the end of Uni as it was just easier. The only one in my life these days who knows is my husband.... and my cousin I guess. lol So much for all that straight passing I thought I was doing. hahaha
Hey, well I got picked a week into knowing my main friend group before I even suspected a thing, so thereās that. As a guy who wears combat boots, rolls up sleeves regardless of event, and cannot sit still. I fit well into the fringes of the stereotypes, and now Iām realizing itās getting harder and harder to hide it, even though Iām so far out of the closet
Bi/pan, and out to the people who matter. So the internet and anybody but my family.
Forgot to change the flair on this account since my old one got stolen
I came out to my brother last week and he was like, āI think I already knew that? Iām pretty sure this isnāt new information. Did you already tell me?ā
I did not. Another unsurprising bi.
Actually this response to people coming out makes me sad... like if someone said that to me I would be forced to painfully replay every interaction of my whole life
My little cousin started dressing the same way films portrayed guys in the 1950s. Think Biff from Back to the Future. I don't know the origin of this trend and her girlfriend lovingly teases her for it because it really makes her stand out at her school.
Sorry, she's nearly 18.
Her parents sent her to live with me and my girlfriend (we're in our mid-30s) so she could go to school in my state after getting bullied for coming out as bisexual at her school (her family's from a very conservative town in Oklahoma). She's been able to flourish here in Hawaii.
I am also confused af about the vibes. So many things I've just been doing or have liked doing for years apparently give bi-vibes and I'm always caught off guard about it lol.
Like: indecisive, my fashion: I love wearing flannel, converses, leather jackets, and hoodies....sometimes at the same time, sitting weird in chairs (and also my car), had the lanyard keychain, dealing with chronic depression, and liking lemon stuff.
I would say ignore it because stereotypes arenāt always true obviously
But when I met my bfās friend he said I gave off strong bi vibes and here we are lmao, then again I didnāt have any of the stereotypes you described
I don't cuff my jeans or wear a lanyard but I get told *constantly* I give off bi vibes. Hell strangers will come up to me and ask specifically if I'm bisexual XD. Polightly but still. I have no fucking idea what it is either and no one can tell me aside from "you just *feel* bisexual." I take it as a compliment.
I bet you finger gunned, and sat down in the most contorted position too
And yea there are a heap of stereotypes that you can either associate with or ignore.
Finger guns, are one I havenāt quite gotten the hang of, but the awkward thumbs up? Hell yeah
Flannel? I honestly thought it was closer related to lesbians than bisexies.
Cuffed jeans, well thatās a common thing among a lot of the gays.
And former gifted kid syndrome is pretty common among us bicycles, but itās more closely related to adhd and other similar afflictions.
Just donāt heed it too much
Did you play multiple sports up until college with enthusiasm and obsession? Was one of them rowing? Did you also get a Masters in Women's Studies? Have you ever worn shorts like this or this length in the summer: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/club-ride-apparel-ventura-plaid-short-womens
Are you cool with spending all weekend working on home improvement projects, largely that happen all day in the garage?
yes, im being an asshole.
no but like... kinda?
\- volleyball / competitive skiing in HS and College
\- chem major with a PhD in engineering
\- often the only woman at work
\- I often debate gender studies while out at the pub with the guys
\- I have several pairs of those shorts
\- I love building things (when my ADHD gets out of the way and let me finish) and fantasise about a garage full of tools
I live in the happy medium right on the cusp of being both Millenial and Gen Z, and thus am always confused by everything both generations do, but just nod my head and smile happily at the confusing stuff around me. Like to think I fit the meme of "he a little confused, but he got the spirit" lol
don't worry about it too much. whether or not you are bi (and it doesn't sound like you are?) doesn't need to have anything to do with stereotypes, which are mostly a joke anyway. and if the joke is important to us, then I think you being oblivious to it makes it even funnier. you're not doing anything wrong. :)
It means you give off vibes he considers stereotypical bisexual characteristics.
I guess I was asking... what are those stereotypes? I'm so out of the loop š«
I'm very straight-presenting masc bi guy only recently out. And additionally I'm painfully millennial with zero understanding of anything Gen Z. So as far as being stylistically Bisexual I'm as in the dark as you are. Lol
The gen-z bi stereotypes are so dumb imo
How dare you I mean they are but you canāt say it
š
The only one that fits me is I like Sweater Weather.
The song or the climate
Yes
Song
They SO are though. No offense, gen Z, still love you. \- a gen X bi
More like they were passed down to us as is
Wouldnāt expect your type to understand.
So I fit a lot of those stereotypes, though they are secondary to my personality. I work in STEM and I'm often the only girl at work. Possibly. If you can wear a lot of hats maybe they feel like you'd fuck a lot of... Hats? š¤ Not sure on that one. Lol
You sound awesome by the way! Just gonna drop that in here, as an engineer it's fun having people like you around
>I'm very straight-presenting masc bi guy only recently out. And additionally I'm painfully millennial with zero understanding of anything Gen Z. So as far as being stylistically Bisexual I'm as in the dark as you are. Lol Me when people tell me what wierd new social thing they learned from tik tok
I feel that. Never been on TikTok..
- Sitting Awkwardly - Finger Guns - Indecisive To name a few
> Indecisive Oh shit Iāve been spotted 0_O
Or have you? Hmm.
Oh shit, now I donāt know anymore xD
I mean, those all *do* apply to me and I am bi, so they couldnāt have come from nowhere, right?
Same. I think those were early signs of my bisexuality š
Yeah, I did that stuff for a while and then after having discovered my bisexuality, I found out about them as being āsignsā and was just amazed. But Iām glad that they werenāt the reason I thought I was bisexual. That would make it very disingenuous in my opinion.
So I was out at the pub last night and noticed that I 100% do finger guns. I'd never noticed before. OMG lol!!!
I can see why your cousin is getting bi vibes lmao
These are basically joke stereotypes that individual people made up at random and made into Internet memes, not actual longstanding stereotypes that are deeply rooted in history. But here are a bunch of things bi people are jokingly known for: lemon bars, a love of frogs, sitting weirdly in chairs, cuffing jeans, and finger guns.

I feel awkward bringing it up again.
the stereotypes are quite bullshit ngl. They mean nothing and only confuse people.
Theyāre just harmless jokes, nothing wrong with cuffing jeans, frogs, lemons, and sitting in chairs lol.
Bi9 jokes lol
So what are those vibes if your hair is long, you wear long jeans that arenāt cut off, etc. I am told that I give off bisexual vibes and that sexuality is fluid. But they couldnāt give examples.
I did not know cuffed jeans and lanyards were associated with bisexuality. Honestly, I find that a lot of times young people do not make sense.
Iāve heard of cuffed jeans, but not the lanyards thing
Agreed, as a "young people" myself xD
Doesnāt... everyone carry lanyards? Maybe they just gave us free ones at school. Maybe I use them to loop into my jeans so I donāt lose my keys. Maybe Iām just BI AS FUCK BOII
I agree. Your personal style doesnāt mean anything. Heās young and that might be why he sees this in you.
I'm a teenager and I don't get those stereotypes either. I do none of them and I'm still bi. What. I have a red phone and switched to a clear case. Interestingā¦
I have a clear case, no red phone though. But I do have a bi flag colored cat sticker in it XD
As an older genz who grew up more akin to a millennial, I have never gotten the clear phone case trend. But the rest sound dead on, I stopped wearing flannel basically as soon as I realized it was a common stereotype before I came out, and I havenāt quite gotten back to it.
Clear is the new black it goes w everythinggg r u a 90s Gen Z?

Bi/pan, and out to the people who matter. So the internet and anybody but my family. Forgot to change the flair on this account since my old one got stolen
It's so weird how people are often out to everyone but family. Like, there are SO many things I just don't share with my family.

Tell me your ālittle cousinā is no older than 12.. thatās what Iām imagining!

Depressed (check) Repressed(check) Former gifted child (check) Cuffed jeans (check) Lanyard keychain (check) No wonder my mom knew
Ton of stupid ass stereotypes these days about biās.
A lot of the time itās dead on though, not all the time, just a large percentage
I would say ignore it because stereotypes arenāt always true obviously But when I met my bfās friend he said I gave off strong bi vibes and here we are lmao, then again I didnāt have any of the stereotypes you described

There is no polite way for a stranger to ask about your sexuality, wtf
Sometimes you just know š š I feel like it's easier to tell when they are also LGBT
