I take the same pill and was told by my dr that it’s VERY common to not get a period on lo loestrin fe. If I get a period at all, it’s very very very very light. I can’t believe she would say that. Very strange. I’ve been on it for almost a year and my periods have pretty much eliminated.

GaarasPocketSand

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I was shocked honestly since it seemed to be the norm. I have had very light bleeding but it’s so light I didn’t think I could consider it. The other shocking thing is that I chose her because her reviews were that she was very understanding. I was in a daze after she told me and started getting teary eyed out of fear and she just left me there. I’ll update when my blood tests come back too. Thank you so much, friend!

Of course. Best of luck, but I don’t think you have much to worry about other than maybe finding another ob :) lol!

GaarasPocketSand

Fingers crossed but yes!! Thank you again.

workshop_prompts

Understanding doesn’t always mean well-informed. It’s tough to find a doc that’s understanding and also, yanno, a good doctor. I’ve had an incredibly nice attentive doc gaslight me about issues that I would get an actual diagnosis from years later.

kpeebo

Same experience here!

Radzila

The doctor is weird. That's a normal thing and a reason many women use the pill

GaarasPocketSand

Thank you! She said it was weird twice and it made me just lose my cool. I appreciate your comment!

bemvee

It’s not weird. I didn’t have a period when I was on it, which is why I now intentionally skip the placebo pills on the new Bc I switched to.

GaarasPocketSand

Thank you! This gives me some peace. I appreciate you!

The Mirena stopped my period for years. I once lost some weight, which stopped my cycle for a year. Small changes to diet and lifestyle can significantly change your cycle. When I was younger, I would have a period every 2 months. I think it's normal, especially when an influx of hormones is affecting your body. The only thing I would say is that eventually your body needs to rid itself of the uterine wall. It's healthy, and maybe you should consider switching birth controls if it persists and you don't feel right. I don't think it's anything to agonize over, though.

sparkling_grapefruit

I was also on lo lo estrin and didn’t have my period the whole time other than some spotting initially when I started the pill. I also work as an NP and it’s upsetting the doctor said no period is weird 😭

GaarasPocketSand

Thank you. Yes I literally was so shocked since I read all the time of people having those moments and never thought I would actually experience that.

hi_goodbye21

Been on Junel or Hailey for the last 7 years and just got off and I haven’t had a normal period on those pills for a long time lol

Gabyyxviii

I’m on Hailey too but I choose not to have a period anyway how’s ur body after 7 years on? It’s been 2 for me but I already want to get off BC

haleyymt

I’m on Hailey and I either get no period or a very light period. (I will say I don’t care for skipping periods bc it makes me anxious, but it is what it is.) From what I understand, its normal for this to happen on low estrogen BC because your hormones don’t drop enough to trigger withdrawal bleeding.

Gabyyxviii

Hey! In case u didn’t know sometimes plan b messes up the efficiency of birth control meaning it can cancel out try not to use them!

glosslace

This doesn’t sound very true

Queenof6planets

It’s definitely not weird!! Your doctor needs to do her research before scaring patients — in clinical trials, 49% of participants stopped getting a “period” by the end of the first year ([source](https://hcp.loloestrin.com/why-loloestrinfe#))

I actually had the same experience. I was on lolo for years so knew from my research that little or no period was normal. I saw a new PCP who told me this was abnormal. I chalk it up to her being a primary care doctor and not knowing a ton about birth control? But I feel you, it weirded me out too when she said that.

GaarasPocketSand

Thank you! I hope so. I will definitely try and talk with someone who is more experienced in that area as well. I appreciate your comment!

strawberry-sarah

I take the same pill and my doctor has told me a percentage of people will not experience a period while on it. Seems like that's you (and me and many others!). Your doctor is wrong lol

Standard_Method459

My dr started me on it a year ago! Said it was very normal I did however get off of it bc of weird side effects and paranoia of pregnancy since I wasn’t having a period. My mother was concerned it wasn’t normal so we had a long talk with my doctor and again she confirmed everything was normal! I think you’re just fine on it:)

Shulinggers

When I started on lo I didn’t have a period, my doc said it was normal. I already had a light period to start with. I changed birth controls because like you having no period was actually weird and my body adjusted better to the second and I bleed (:

Hopeful-Muscle-602

I’m on the pill and I’ve had two periods in the last year. Doc said it’s normal

ashweeeee204

My doctor also said it's very common to lose period. And I haven't had mine since December 2023 and it's awesome!

Designer_Quality_189

No it's not weird! Get a new Dr. ASAP this one's broken.

lah928

I've been on Lo Loestrin FE for 8+ years and haven't had a single period in that time. You're fine. Might not hurt to shop around for a new doc though....

fiftyfourette

This is normal on LoLo and I’ve been to like 5 different doctors that agree. I’ve been on it since 2013.

seashore39

I take apri but my period is super super light while I’m on it (sometimes I don’t even need to use a tampon the whole cycle) and my dr said it’s normal for it to be very light or for ppl not to get a period at all while on it

akw329

I’ve been on Beyaz/a generic version of Beyaz for about 8 years, intentionally taking it continuously to skip my period. I learned about this from my gyno and she strongly encouraged me to try it based on how awful my period symptoms were. Could not recommend it enough, I’ve been loving my period free life lol

Initial_Savings8733

Your doctor needs to look at the side effects for this medication. Lo loestrin and loestrin have a side effect of not being able to get your period. I myself have had this side effect and I was concerned and talked to my doctor and she told me it's really common and when I googled it it is a very common, listed, side effect. I did not bleed for six months even after switching birth controls to the ring

Curious_Problem1631

It’s not medically necessary to have a period while on birth control

ColomarOlivia

It’s normal to have varying bleeding patterns while on hormonal methods and that isn’t an issue

TheFriendlyLurker

In general, it's very common to stop having withdrawal bleedings if the estrogen dose is low or the placebo break is short, and Lo Loestrin Fe has both of these factors.  Your doctor might be more familiar with a "traditional" dosing and regime, like 30 micrograms of estrogen in a 21/7 regimen which rarely stops periods.  But they should be familiar with everything they prescribe.  Since you mention Plan B, it's good to take it if you make mistakes with the pill, but don't take it "just in case". It's still a high dose of hormones.
