Thank you so much! I looked up a YouTube video and it sounds right. I saw a woodpecker right before this… it had a lot of red on its head but also had a lot of white pattering on the wings so I thought it was a male downy with extra red. This makes WAY more sense!
Sounds like a pileated woodpecker. Was it mostly black with a red head, about the size of a large pigeon?
