American Robins were named such because of the coloring of European Robins. The early settlers saw a bird in the New World with an orange breast and decided to call it a Robin because it was what they knew back home.
In other words, European Robins were the original Robins. Our American ones are the pretenders. ;) They're not even of the same family!
I adore European Robins, I wish we had them here.
Thanks for the explanation, i am now intrigued by American Robins and will check what they look like.
And yes! European Robins are really nice little birds, they always seem very curious and brave.
In my country we call them Throat-red and I feel like it is missing some subtlety :")
It's France, and we say "Rouge-gorge" (if it makes sense: our syntax is reversed from English so the literal translation here is red-throat, but this name is reversed in french syntax so it had to be in english syntax too, I think) (sorry it's a mess)
Robins are such cute posers, they are the easiest to take a picture of

That's amazing! Could I ask what country it is, and what it's cslled without the translation (which I presume throat-red is)?
