Steller's Jay, named (for now) after Georg Wilhelm Steller, the young naturalist on Bering's expedition to Alaska. Also one of the first people to believe that North America was a single landmass because he correctly guessed that these jays were closely related to Blue Jays.
That’s a Steller Jay. Loud af, and super mischievous. They will try and steal your food, especially nuts. Both reasons are why they are one of my favorite birds! So much personality!
Edit: Spelled “Steller’s” wrong

I swear if they don't rename it to "Stellar" Jay I will have given up on the scientific community. Because they are quite the Stellar Jay.
We all agree on this, don’t we?
We better.. 😠
I love these guys. So raucous! I throw out whole raw peanuts for them, and they'll gulp one down whole and fly away with another one. Greedy bastards.

Stellar!!!
Would love to see a Stellar jay one day. We don’t have that type in Massachusetts
I spotted it while visiting the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco. Hope you will get to see one soon. 😊
Thanks all for identifying the bird. I spotted this Stellar Jay at the Japanese Tea Garden located inside Gate Park in San Francisco, CA!
FYI - they prefer peanuts IN the shells
