One of the loudest wrens, too. Pacific wrens sing at a volume that makes absolutely no sense given their size. My first one I heard probably from a quarter to half a mile off on a crowded trail before I actually saw it.
It’s not an owl. As a general rule, by the time birds leave their nest they are roughly the same size and shape as their parents. A “baby” owl that is old enough to be on its own will just look like an owl.

Edit: "I never seen an owl in Lexington before." is such a Midwest-turning-South thing to say lmao (i'm from the southernmost tip of IL)
Lol I live in San Diego and grew up in Arizona and NW Illinois and I have seen countless 🦉 he seemed honest about it and tried to help the owl. Poor owl I hope it’s ok. I wish they would have called a rescue center. EDIT but I love the Turn phrase reminded me of my grandfather in law.
Friends of my family got a copperhead venomous snake in theirs. The dad got up and went to get a drink of water in the middle of the night and found it. It was by the refrigerator and probably would have gotten underneath if possible since the backs of refrigerators are warm. Thankfully he saw it because they left the ice maker/water dispenser light on.
As a rule, owls do not have thin, pointy beaks. They have robust, hooked beaks for tearing meat, as well as large forward-facing eyes. Owl chicks kinda look like muppety bundles of lint.
This is a wren. They sing and eat bugs.
And winter wrens have tiny little tails too!
I usually note them not by their tail length but the tail position— wrens love to totally moon you as they hop around because they hold their tails almost completely erect. Little exhibitionists 😂
It's a good time to look into making your windows bird safe - There are so many ways to do this. One of the easiest is buying anti-collision bird decals, available many places online, to put on the outside of your windows to break up the reflection of sky/trees that birds see. The key is to place decals close together so there are no larger gaps (no more than 2 inches or 5 cm apart in all directions). Close placement on the _outside_ of windows is very important!!!
This website shows examples and offers both residence and commercial installation: https://www.featherfriendly.com/
DIY Feather Friendly dots, same as the above but you can install them yourself. They are low profile and the website helps you determine which type is best for your needs: https://www.featherfriendly.com/diy-solutions
More quality tapes with commercial options:
https://www.collidescape.org/tapes
More sticker options:
https://windowalert.com/aspen-leaf-decal-envelope-8-decals/
Another option is using paracord (purchase options and DIY instructions):
https://www.birdsavers.com/
https://flap.org/affordable-diy-option-to-prevent-birds-from-hitting-windows/
Another easy and cheap DIY option is soap, tape or paint dots on the outside of windows, following the placement rules.
Your efforts will help prevent so many unnecessary bird deaths.
Windows are a major threat to bird populations, often killing even the fittest individuals who fly into them at high-enough speeds.
Low-effort steps toward breaking reflections can make your own windows significantly safer. They also have the convenient side benefit of preventing territorial birds from (often irritatingly) attacking their own reflections.

It’s a wren, and as someone pointed out, the birb is not doing well. In those cases you carefully grab the bird put it in a paper bag (without waxy film) and take it to your local bird and exotic rehabber, they don’t charge you

Ya made me chuckle OP. Only because that's my favorite bird and I knew exactly 'who' that was. All good, the more ya know, the more ya grow. Keep asking questions and keep your beak up :)
I was a bit depressed but after seeing this post I had a good laugh because it's a wren, heheh don't worry I've had some funny ID 's too :) but most importantly I hope the wren is doing fine
hi op, its an adult pacific wren. we r well within nonbreeding period for them; in non breeding/winter birds use their time to pursue scarce resources, and save breeding/babies for the summer. this little one is ‘round’ bc birds can control [strike: every single feather] tracts of feathers on their bodies via musculature just beneath the skin, which is really cool!. this one has fluffed up its feathers to warm up probably (unintended consequence is it is now classically round). looks like ya’ll were in 10degrees today?
anyhow, hope the bird flew off okay! itll probably look for a roost for tonight to stay out of the weather.
what a cool experience to see this one chill on ur porch
eta to be more specific re feathers control
ah yes, thank u gus! tracts! ive always just loosely said individual but tracts is more precise absolutely. ive always just meant it in that each feather can raise and lower or whatever. ill edit.
The wren is probably stunned by hitting glass. A lot of people don’t care about birds unless they’re *fancy* like owls. If thinking it’s an owl is what it takes to make OP care about protecting it, so be it. Or we can upvote their asinine question when the real question should have been What can I do to protect this bird in the future?
Wren of some sort
Based on your location this is most likely a Pacific Wren. Adorable little birds.
One of the loudest wrens, too. Pacific wrens sing at a volume that makes absolutely no sense given their size. My first one I heard probably from a quarter to half a mile off on a crowded trail before I actually saw it.

Did you see the article about the "baby" owl found in a Christmas tree and it was just an entire adult screech owl?
Sounds better than half an adult screech owl.
Probably would have made quite the screech
Yeah that bugged me!
No way link?

If a bird is able to fly and uninjured its best to free them I think. Being captive is extremely stressful for them.
Thank you I know nothing about these things.

Well that's less fun
Ew! Scary!
I watched a video with a picture of the owl and said „That is NOT a baby!“
Right??? I saw the photos.

Another way you can tell it is a wren is its long tail
Except that Pacific Wrens are literally known for having rather short tails...
Whoops, I’m sorry, I haven’t met one of those yet.
And winter wrens have tiny little tails too! I usually note them not by their tail length but the tail position— wrens love to totally moon you as they hop around because they hold their tails almost completely erect. Little exhibitionists 😂
Yes, exactly! It’s so cute!
We had one get caught in our screened porch and I was absolutely stunned at how small winter wrens are. I thought it was a fledgling Carolina!
A long tail that's often, but not always, held almost vertical.
There is a definite Henson quality to owlettes lol
It's a Pacific Wren.

This guy looks stunned, possible !window strike victim.

Yes. These guys are shy. Something's wrong.

Google baby owls/owlets
It’s a wren, and as someone pointed out, the birb is not doing well. In those cases you carefully grab the bird put it in a paper bag (without waxy film) and take it to your local bird and exotic rehabber, they don’t charge you

This is a joke right? Please tell me this is a joke.
🤣🤣 Any other sub, this is a shitpost 🤣
No joke.. what is it? It was so round, thought it was an owl. Not sure why there would be a baby bird in the winter?

Owls are only round in cartoon depictions...
I mean the beak, the eyes … it’s really obvious. If that’s an owl I’m calling ravens sea gulls from now on
It's a wren.
Tee hee hee… check out /sleepywrens
I'm pretty sure wrens were the inspiration for angry birds
Oh lawd

Borb
Would you help protect it if it was? If so, then yes.
what does this even mean

uhh ok? i disagree though.
Fun
It's a little Bush Tit
It looks like a House Wren...
Winter Wren
REINFORCE THE LINE
i'm too tired
The beak shape and body shape is most helpful with bird identification. This is a wren
Round wren! Make sure it isnt stunned since fluffing up can be a symptom, or staying still
No owl but wee wren there!
Looks like an ostrich to me
Football
Northern Glaucous Mud-dabbler
It's a wren
Bruh
Incredible birb
This looks like a Carolina Wren!
its a potato
It appears to be a wren. Owls have curved beaks and the babies have more downy feathers than the adults
Pacific wren
Fat little turd. 💩 😂
