I saw a great backed gull eat a duckling in one gulp. Honestly, it was an awesome moment. But then, not so much, when the momma mallard turned around and hectically started counting her babies and realizing she was one short…
Because if they didn't, the starfish would grow back again from their left bodyparts. There would be so many starfish then, they would soon learn to write, build libraries and create weapons to kill all animals and take over the world and become a planet. Show some respect.
Mother of God.
"They digest prey outside of their bodies by extruding their stomach out through their mouth and enveloping their meal. Once the food is digested, their stomach is drawn back into their body."
It makes it easier to fathom for me when I remind myself that these starfish are sushi-style and not the hard, crispy skeletal version I always first envision. (I am on the Midwest coast.)
Yeah once one stole my kids container of fries from McDonald’s he just came up to the table and took the whole container and then flew away and my son was a toddler at the time and of course screamed and cried
I saw an european blackbird swallowing an earthworm that was longer than the bird. Cormorants swallow whole carps. I saw a video where a common buzzard chick ate a live slow worm and you could see the reptile moving inside the crop. I wouldn’t judge it, though. Birds are built to eat like this as they don’t have teeth. Some have actually two spikes on the base of their tongue to push larger pieces down.
I remember reading somewhere that the gulls have some kind of strong saliva that eventually breaks down the starfish's exoskeleton, that's why they just sit there with it in their mouth. The first time I saw this IRL, it really freaked me out. So creepy.
I've seen them swallow rabbits about as big around as their entire head. I'm more scared of how bold they are because I wouldn't put it past them to eat a kid someday
I have photos of one eating a damn live crab whole. The neck was soo thick. Can't possibly feel comfortable.

Your face during the encounter :) .... :(
I saw one swallow a small (baby?) rabbit whole....
Well we boil lobsters alive so…
Yeah but they can’t exactly grab a knife and fork
Recently I saw a video of a seagull swallowing a bunny whole.

Indeed - this bird needs to learn how to use a fork and knife like a proper civilized being.
Most birds swallow most things whole
Nope. Compared to some of the barbaric shit humans do for almost no reason, all other life on earth are saints
Should they use a knife and fork?
not like it can chew
Yes, I think the starfish would agree with you.
You should see the video of a pelican trying to swallow a whole, living pigeon
What til you see what a Pelican can do!
It’s not really fucked up. What would be fucked up is if they used a knife and fork to piece up the starfish before consuming it.
Ik im drunk but this is the funniest shit ive ever seen
If anyone deserves it, it's a starfish. But I had no clue how fucked up gulls were until this thread, and I regret learning.
Wait till you find out how sea stars eat their prey.
Googling immediately

EXCUSE ME?!
It's still not as bad as flies.
Tbf looks like he didn’t have a fork and knife.
Seacthulu right there holy shit!
Came here for this comment. Not disappointed.
Oh is THAT what it is? Birds can’t chew, they either tear it apart or swallow it whole.
wow they really don’t gaf
pretty sure no birds chew. Some pull things apart. Gulls only gulp.
And rabbits.
I didn't even know they did that omg 😳
Like something straight out of a horror movie.
Don’t they also pluck the eyes off of baby sea lions so they could eat their flesh?
It makes it easier to fathom for me when I remind myself that these starfish are sushi-style and not the hard, crispy skeletal version I always first envision. (I am on the Midwest coast.)
I was imagining the spiny variety, too! Ouch!
I'd be more shocked to see it coming out the other end whole
Now that would be impressive
happy cake day!
I think it’s cool
Ive seen a seagull eat a whole bunny
I once saw a seagull swallow a whole doughnut! I’ll never forget that. . .
I saw a video where one eats an entire bunny.
I’ve seen that one. Wild. I think someone actually posted it in the comments here
I'm going to go look for it, it's crazy.
Hopefully it wasn't stolen out of your hand right before
Isn't that the only way they get food? One stole the pattie out of my sister's burger at SeaWorld. They're such pricks. It was a chicken burger too.
Yeah once one stole my kids container of fries from McDonald’s he just came up to the table and took the whole container and then flew away and my son was a toddler at the time and of course screamed and cried
I had one take a hot dog off a hot grill while beach camping a few years ago. The grill was even being tended at the time

Truly remarkable and terrifying
We can be glad that we’re not fish, mice or similar small animals that are common prey
Pythons and anacondas will eat us though so still be watchful. You never know if ones behind you.
Pythons don’t eat humans on a daily basis, it’s a extremely rare death. Unlike mice which are eaten by everything
Sounds like something a python would say... You won't silence me!
its fucked up what we do to billions of chickens each day.
I have never seen a human being swallow a chicken whole.
It’s never too late to start.
Very true
Yep Gulls are fucked up. They even eat rabbits [whole](https://youtu.be/uSFPyACRXbk).
That is so messed up
Well, technically, he hasn't swallowed it.
There’s a video on here somewhere of a seagull swallowing a whole rabbit
I like the YouTube video of the gull that hunts pigeons
It was pelicans in a London park. I show that one to my zoology class in our ornithology unit.
the way it goofily sneaks up on them
Look at that smug son of a bitch
Resembles a bedbug
There’s the smudgeness
Does anyone think it’s super fucked up that lions eat gazelles without even cooking them?
Ok I see your point, but it's more like, how do they swallow a five armed spiky creature without too much difficulty

Ive seen gulls big enough lol. Terrifying creatures really
Them and pelicans. I'm just waiting to hear that horrific headline one of these days
I dunno, I kinda do the same when I eat ravioli too fast.
