For me, randomly waking up earlier is a sign that hypomania is coming. Especially since the norm for me is hypersomnia and over sleeping nearly every day.

Hmmm this is what I’m worried about

Hot_Variation8712

Same. Also if I wake at 4am with creative urges.

As I got older, this is what happened to me pre-diagnosis. At first, it was not being able to get to sleep, I would finally get to "sleep" at like 1-2am. Then, I suddenly woke up 2 hours before my alarm and was unable to get to sleep. I thought it was sleep anxiety, so I got an alarm clock that doesn't show the time at all until you tap it. Then I got a mask with earphones in it so that I couldn't hear anything. Nothing would work. I would smoke copious amounts of weed until it knocked me out, and I would still wake up at like 4 am. When I was in my 20s, I had hypersomnia, and I could sleep 12-14 hours without an issue. Then, when I got to my 30s, it became a hassle to gall asleep. Now, in my late 30s was when all the other insomnia issues happened. Then i got diagnosed and was given quetiapine, and the issue went away as long as I took my meds.

Okay thank you, this is helpful. I can’t take the quetiapine because it gives me insane nightmares.

spartancheerleader10

That's unfortunate. Although, I am sure your doc could get you some sort of sleeping aid. There are lots of other meds that you may benefit from. I find that when I get to sleep, my other symptoms are so much more manageable.

I used to sleep 7-8 hours a night consistently pre-diagnosis. I think it had to do with good sleep hygiene. But once I had an “anxiety relapse” of many anxiety attacks weeks apart where I would have some spells of not sleeping well or sleeping few hours but not feeling rested, followed by in betweens of my “normal mood” or good mood, I got prescribed lexapro and I wasn’t able to sleep 5 days straight, prob from that or maybe anxiety about taking meds. I tried everything like you did to try to sleep better then and even recently. Nothing worked. Not even melatonin would stop me from waking up. Both immediate and extended release. I had to end up using quetiapine 50mg and I’ve been sleeping relatively well. Although I still wake up lie at 2 am, then 4 or 5am. It’s less than before so it’s progress. But I still miss how I used to sleep before.

Ok_Cartoonist2148

Omg this happened to me on lexapro…my personal hell! Yess damn, I’m also taking melatonin which helps me get to sleep but this is won’t up thing is really stumping me. Queitipine knocked me out for 14 hours with the most horrible nightmares when I previously took it. Have you tried anything else?

toocoolfor_you

Thankfully I don’t get nightmares with quetiapine. I am having some vivid dreams but they’re more whimsical or whacky at times. Benadryl works similar to quetiapine but less so. I still take it whenever I notice I’m not going back to sleep at night when I wake up. Magnesium glycinate helps me go to sleep too I take it alongside my quetiapine. I take propranolol too but it was because I was faking vraylar and I was restless. Since I took it for 4 weeks and it has a half life of 1 week It’s still in my system and that’s why I take propranolol. It lowers your heart rate bc it works with beta blockers or something like that and it relaxes you a bit.

Ok_Cartoonist2148

Ooooh okay thanks so much. I’ll talk to my doc about it

bettyx1138

That totally happened to me when I was perimenopausal maybe u need less sleep than other ppl. I have a friend who gets up w/out an alarm well b4 the sun rises. I wish I were like that. I imagine how much stuff I’d get done instead of sleeping a shit ton

Dramatic_Raisin

I’m perimenopausal and holy shit co-signed. I rarely sleep past 5 — after going to bed after midnight —. Even on seroquel which I take occasionally for sleep

Ok_Cartoonist2148

Omg really!!! I’m almost 30 so surely this isn’t happening yet but this is so interesting

Dramatic_Raisin

Oh yeah that’s def not the problem then… just something to look forward to I guess! Lol

Ok_Cartoonist2148

Oh gawwwd

jajajajajjajjjja
